“Destination wedding in December”
Reviewed 22 January 2014

We recently stayed at the Grand Plaza for 9 days for a family destination wedding. We were there from Dec. 27th to Jan. 3rd. The weather wasn't the best, but managed to have the ceremony outside. The staff were outstanding and very accommodating. If something is not right, they do there best to make it right. The wedding coordinator was great and we loved her recommendations for band, cake, flowers etc. The rooms were comfortable with spectacular ocean views. It was a great place for a destination wedding. Food was great in the restaurants and at the wedding. We did have to wait one morning to get into the dining room for about 10 minutes. We would go back again.

Room Tip: The ocean view or partial views are worth the extra cost

I love this place, it's true the elevators are slow and the elegance is certainly fading but I have never been disappointed in the service or cleanliness.

We have stayed at one other place in the area and were upset to find out that Parking and Wi-Fi were not included in the price quoted for the room but the Grand Plaza is reasonable with no extra charges and it is right on the beach, with sunsets to die for!

The rooms are rather small, I imagine it would get crowded with more than 2 people, but then who goes to St Pete to sit in an hotel?

Room Tip: If you take a beach front room, you might want to try to get the 5th or 6th floor on the North side...

We were just out exploring Florida's gulf coast and stopped in without a reservation. We were able to get perfect ocean front accomodations for three nights and were delighted with our room. In fact, at the last minute, we decided to try for another day and Dana, at the front desk, was able to find a way to accomodate us. Everything in the room was very clean and modern. The wall with the gulf view is all windows with plantation blinds, which, when opened, gave the entire room a light and airy feeling. They offer an excellent buffet breakfast (or you may order from the menu) which was delightful. There are also two on-site restaurants for lunch and dinner. We did not have time to try the top floor revolving restaurant, but had two meals at Bongos Beach Bar & Restaurant. Both times the food was excellent and entertainment great. The hotel is located on a beautiful wide white beach and the pool area is very nice. The entire staff with which I came into contact were very nice and helpful. Am already looking forward to returning for a longer stay.

We stayed at the Grand Plaza for my sisters wedding and had a nice time. Bit of a pain on check-in as we had specifically requested a high floor and quiet room. We were allocated 3rd floor right in front of the lifts!!!! The key to the room didn't work and after complaining, we were reallocated a 6th floor corner room - so much better!!
The corner rooms are a quirky shape and give two different views - we liked it very much. The bed was comfy and we liked the little balcony, luckily we didn't have smokers around us to ruin it - I know a lot of people (our family included) who used them to smoke on which is a bummer for any non smokers.
The location was excellent and the beach beautiful. The staff were friendly and we spent a whole evening in Bongos where we were looked after by a helpful chap named Thomas. Watching sunset there was lovely, as they lit the tiki torches shortly there after bought round shots - a nice touch.
Breakfast was very pleasant and had a nice waiter, a few items were cold but overall very decent for a buffet at £9.99.
The fridge was TOO efficient!! It froze the top inch or our water and turned our wine and beer to slush! The slushes were pretty nice but the water was a total pain. Nothing like smashing through ice for a glass of water at 4am!!!
Bad points:
The bathroom desperately needed an update but was (barely) acceptable.
The ceiling fan was so low, I caught my hand on it more than once when dressing.
The lifts were less than reliable.
We had a dress and a shirt pressed (not cleaned, just pressed) and they charged us $20!!! And this was taken more than a month after we stayed, after telling us when we were there that it was no charge.
An aside (not something the hotel can control) but several people received jelly fish stings - so watch out for this in the area.
All in all, a decent stay but a few updates required.

Room Tip: 6th floor gives excellent views - corner rooms are great.

We stayed a week from Jan. 6th/14 and though the weather didn't fully co-operate the room made up for it. It was a suite with 2 balconies, 1 oceanfront and the other beach view. Slept with the sound of the waves washing in on the beach. Room size very generous with fashionable furnishings. Separate kitchenette with microwave and fridge. 40' Tv as well as smaller in bedroom. Close to Ihop for great breakfast and mall with Publix for food shopping. Would make a point of coming back to this hotel for a revisit in the future!

Room Tip: The south side can be noisy with the bar Bongos running late into the night. At least ask for a hig...

This hotel is awesome with very knowledgable and super kool staffs, Especially front desk like: Michelle and Dana, they will go out of their ways to make your stay as a memorable one while you are there. The room and views are fantastic, there are some on site restaurants that you can pcik and choose from low to high keys.

Everything about this hotel is exceptional and it's a must stay while you visit the area. I highly recommended this hotel to anyones.

Thank you so much for your accommodations !

Room Tip: Ocean view rooms on the West side

SOOO lovely. Everything one wants from a beach vacation: beautiful view, great location, private balcony (hotel is curved so your balcony is truly private from neighbors), perfect sized clean room with updated neutral decor, extremely comfortable bed and linens, helpful friendly staff, good food, and an outdoor bar that has live music all day and stays open until past 2:00-- even on a quiet, chilly January evening. Every single person was so helpful and kind too, from the moment I called to make the reservation.
Ate a late lunch next door at Crabby Bill's, which was great also. Early bird menu had 4 Rock Lobster tails & 2 sides for $22. Fantastic! Then Bern's one evening for dinner. Just the word Bern's says it all.
REALLY a great value and a great experience. Will absolutely tell everyone about this little gem, and will definitely return.

Room Tip: I told the gal on the phone when making the reservation for a partial Gulf/city view, that we were c...
