This was our second visit to Grand Plaza and it was better than the first time. I think other people have summed up the actual property details so I want to focus on the employees. From the moment we walked in, we felt at home. The front desk clerks are friendly and professional. We dealt with Sarah and she was very eager to help us in any way she could. I was most impressed with the way they dealt with guests who had booked a room by a third party (Expedia, etc.) and were not happy with their room. The guest thought they were getting a much better room than they actually booked and I give the front desk a lot of credit for dealing with these unhappy people. In the Palm Room, we were greeted by Jean the hostess. She always had a smile on her face and I thought she dealt very well with the customers considering it was her first week there. Sonya the waitress was right there when we needed her but gave us our privacy otherwise. It was a relaxed environment and all the staff seemed to be friendly. Of course, our favorite spot is Bongo’s Beach Bar. They make great drinks and went out of their way to make us feel welcome. We mostly dealt with Suze and Jason and we enjoyed their banter back and forth. Live music three times a day was so much fun. It was a happy place to be and I credit the bar-staff for creating that atmosphere. The last person I want to thank and acknowledge is Danny the concierge. He has a bubbly personality and gave us his honest opinion on local restaurants. He was right on with his comments. Over the week, we were able to count on him for good ideas. A lot of the staff live right in St. Pete Beach so they know the area. They say it “all starts at the top” and I would say the owner is proud of his property and expects his staff to be customer-oriented. Overall, this place feels truly like home.

Stayed her in Feb. Hotel staff were excellent, great location, Spinners Restaurant was good and very reasonably priced. Bongos beach bar is a great spot to kick back and relax while watching the sun set.

One major complaint, the shower is downright dangerous. THe water temp went from freezing cold to scalding several times during each of the showers we had during our stay. Scalding!!!

This is a solid 3 star, nothing fancy but loads of amenities around, liquor store, Publix grocery store, restaurants and bars.

Beds were fantastic, great sleep here and nice and quiet.

Room Tip: Get beach view room or partial coastal

We checked in 2/24 and were upgraded to a penthouse. That was an awesome surprise. The view was awesome. The restroom was a little outdated but who can complain when we got a free upgrade unexpectedly. The revolving restaurant on top was fantastic and so was Bongo's Beach bar and grill outside. The hotel staff was on their game every day and did a fantastic job of taking care of our room and needs. I hope to go again next year.

Room Tip: I liked the gulf side because I loved looking at the ocean but the bay side will offer a great view...

After over hyped and under delivering accommodations on last years Key West trip we decided to try St Pete for our mid winter break from upstate NY. The Grand Plaza really delivered on it's promises, from the Gulf view from our balcony to the dining in Spinners. It was great to walk from the hotel 100 yards to the beach and 50 yards to the Bongos bistro. We spent an afternoon in Bongos enjoying the live entertainment and the food, this was what we thought we would get in Key West. The breakfast buffet was a great value, they kept everything hot and fresh and the service was good. My wife was having such a great time we decided to extend our stay and will definitely recommend to our friends and are already planning our return trip next year.

Overall, we were happy with our stay here. However, when we booked our vacation, we requested a quiet room with a view and we were informed that all renovations would be completed before our arrival on January 19. We called on January 18 to confirm our requests. When we arrived, we were assigned to a room with a view. But renovations were still in progress. It is unfortunate that we were not advised when calling ahead nor by the check-in staff that renovations were still in progress and would affect our stay. After 2 nights we found the renovations were too disruptive. When we spoke to the manager, Anthony Harvard, he quickly offered us alternative upgraded quiet rooms, and personally showed us the rooms. We appreciated Anthony's assistance in rescuing our vacation. The location on the beach is great - the beach is fantastic for walking, with lots of shells and some wildlife, and very long - I walked for over an hour and did not get near the end. Bongos beach bar provided magnificent views of the sunset and good music. It was too cold for swimming that week in January and the renovations interfered with the use of the pool anyways. The in-house breakfast place, Palm Room Restaurant, was ok, with a very basic buffet; the staff there did not seem up to the stature of this hotel and were a little sour. Suggest breakfast down the road at Beverly's (1 block from Gulf Blvd and 75th Ave). The hotel restaurant, Spinners Rooftop Revolving, for dinner and lunch was great. Good quality and reasonably priced, with a great view. Staff again were not as professional or friendly as expected but ok. Free coffee available near lobby at any time was appreciated. Free and easy parking was also appreciated. We would definitely revisit this hotel, especially if we receive confirmation of the rewards program that we registered for.

Room Tip: Music can be heard from Bongos beach bar from rooms on the south and west side. We enjoyed the music...

We stayed at Grand Plaza Hotel Valentine's week. The suite was beautiful with a fantastic view of the Gulf, Bay, and downtown with two private balconies. This hotel is right on the beach and you are within feet of the Gulf of Mexico. We made reservations and had a fabulous dinner at Spinners which revolves once every hour so you have a great view of everything. It would be great to see the sun setting but we had a cloudy evening. We finished the evening at Bongos which is a bar & grill right on the beach. We also enjoyed the breakfast buffet the following morning and it was delicious and reasonably priced. We would also like to commend Sarah and Shelly for their wonderful service. They went over and above to make us feel very welcome. We truly enjoyed our stay there and would recommend it to our family and friends.

Room Tip: Corner suites are large and sunny with two separate balconies.

We stayed one night at this hotel before flying home out of PIE airport. We booked ahead using a coupon code and when we checked in we were upgraded to the penthouse suite. We weren't complaining, but we didn't understand why they did it since we hadn't paid extra to even have an ocean view and the room we got had panoramic views of the ocean! Go figure:) The hotel was probably very amazing and glamourous in the 80's, but most of it looks like it was decorated when Miami Vice and Dynasty were popular-though it is kept up, clean, shiny and immaculate so it's not dated in a "bad" way. I grew up in the 80's so it felt familiar. We didn't have any complaints about our short stay here. The staff was friendly and the room was clean and nice. We didn't eat at the hotel because we had something else picked out, but the restaurant smelled amazing! The beach is breathtaking…wide and room for everyone I would imagine even in the height of summer. I don't think the sand is quite as great as the Clearwater beach sand but it is close. I loved the retro feeling of the road that the hotel is on…like stepping back in time and I love that feeling. It rained the evening were were there and a little the next morning so our walks on the beach were short lived. I would like to visit St. Pete again when we have more time to explore! I would definitely stay at this hotel again if it worked out.
