Our stay was great! My favorite part was actually the ROOM! I loved those bohemian style window shades that made the room feel very tropical. Light, bright, CLEAN room. Totally worth getting an ocean view. The service is Excellent! They will make sure you have a great stay! We were going to eat at the top floor restaurant Spinners, but honestly thought it was way too overpriced. There are so many other choices to eat during the sunset right by the water or if you drive down Gulf Blvd passing the DON CESAR hotel. (You'll end up in a residential area, but turn right on one of the side streets and you'll end up right at the beach - lot's of cafes, restaurants and bars ocean view)
Some TIPS: Reserve your Cabanas ($25) ahead of time because they do allow reservations and they fill up fast. You'll end up in a spot in the back or far side if you don't. Also, park in their garage! It's down the ramp where it's more secure and out of the sun! Bongos Bar - the Pina Coladas were horrible - maybe just the bartender I had. Be aware that the corridors barely have A/C working so get to your room fast! Also, VERY IMPORTANT - before you get UPSET - - - They have Murphy Beds for the rooms you book as Double Beds. We arrived at our room and only saw a king size bed with a couch. We called downstairs and they explained how we take down the WALL to turn it into another bed. They never mentioned it at Check in!!!

Room Tip: Ocean View rooms are better but be ready to hear the live band till about 10 or 11pm

My step-daughter had stayed at another hotel on St Pete beach last summer and ate at Spinners. So when planning our family vacation she wanted to stay at the Grand Plaza.
We booked early in April for an August vacation and our room was only $207 a night except Friday was $257 for a direct ocean front with a balcony. So the price was right with a good location. All the staff we encountered were super friendly; even on elevator rides they always told us to have a great day. Spinners and Bongos were both good. Loved the poolside service.
Upon check in they gave us a paper about the stingrays. After taking a private dolphins your with Captain Dave's water sports and a private fishing trip with Hook 'Em Harry (both I would totally recommend) we were told what you typically see in the water are Manta Rays and they are pretty harmless. We actually saw several and had them swim right by us without incident. They were actually pretty cool to watch especially when they jumped out of the water.
Our housekeeper (same one all week) was very nice and always made sure to ask if we needed anything else when she saw us in the hallway going to or from our room.
Dale at the front desk was my go to guy when I had any questions. Even recommended a great pizza place, Buona, for delivery one night when we wanted to stay in.
I read several complaints by other posters saying the noise was an issue but we ran our A/C unit and ceiling all the time and it wasn't a problem for us. I actually enjoyed going out on the balcony to listen to the musicians playing at Bongos, but couldn't hear it in our room.
My only "complaints" were our floors in our room were sandy even after they had been mopped, but when at the beach thats to be expected. The breakfast buffet had no flavor to any of the food.
Everything else was wonderful and we would definitely stay here again!

I'm reluctant to write this as doing so means our wonderful holiday is over

We had a fantastic stay at this hotel. Rooms were spacious & comfortable, however the air con was very noisy in our room. Had to turn it off at night but thankfully the ceiling fan ensured we weren't too hot.

Our bed was comfortable & incredibly spacious. The children had a 'pull down' bed which was ok for now but think if we come back we will need a suite room as any longer than a couple of days on a pull down isn't ideal. I just can't see adults being comfy on the pull down.. Our son, being 13 is now the size of an adult so don't think we'll get away with it again.

The rooms were kept reasonably clean. A little disappointed to find dirty cotton buds and hair grips in the bottom drawer of the bathroom on our arrival. Never nice clearing that up after previous guests, however I left that delightful job to my husband ;o)
The counter tops were slightly sticky and if you look behind the mattress in room #418 between the mattress & headboard you will find a pair of pink sunglasses and tissues. Forget what we were searching for (probably the remote) but one of the kids had lost something and we came across these whilst hunting!

I loved that there was a fridge in the room when so many places charge for this basic item. Microwave also in the room neatly tucked away but we didn't need to use this.

Pool area is fine. The pool is a little on the small side but our children still had a brilliant time. We never had a problem securing loungers (even at 10:00 / 10:30) but be warned, there are no parasols. This didn't bother me though. I think maybe it would be a headache having parasols due to space limitations. Not that we ever felt crammed in.

The revolving restaurant looked super & I regret not going in to dine. But we had so many restaurants lined up we just ran out of time. The staff there were wonderful (we went in to have a nosey round) and even bought out some binoculars for our children to admire the wonderful views.

We have already said we'll return to this hotel because what makes it for us is the excellent staff, the location (beautiful beaches) & the fact that everywhere is easily accessible. We had hired a car as we'd come after having a week at Universal. And the kids did love the pool. Sometimes smaller isn't a bad thing, they get to meet other children and they had just as much fun as when they've been in huge infinity pools! Towels were always available, you collect them from reception and the happily gave you what you asked for.

Must mention Bongo's which is the outdoor dining establishment. Whilst round the pool the staff would regularly come round to see if we wanted anything, they were delightful. We had a couple of lunches here and an evening meal. They serve the usual club sandwiches, burgers etc etc so not fine dining, but when you fancy something quick and easy this place is ideal. We loved the evening meal actually, just so lovely eating out looking at to the sea. There is always live music at this place too, so whether you are round the pool or dining in Bongo's you can enjoy the music. It's not loud intrusive music before you start to worry! Food is perfect and actually the prices we found were reasonable.

I note that some people have criticised the wifi and not being able to connect. This is true, the connection is dire. BUT, you are on holiday, why would you want to be stuck on your iPads etc. That's what I told our kids and it was so refreshing them not having their heads stuck on iPads etc! It worked well enough (if slowly) for us to map our route for our various outings to the shopping malls, restaurants etc.

We had a late flight time home but unfortunately they do not offer a complementary room for a quick shower. You can get a free hour in your room (check out is 11am, so you can stay until 12pm). Otherwise you can stay on in your room for $35/hour.

Plenty of parking, don't make the mistake we made going round & round desperately looking for a parking spot one night when we were late back. We hadn't realised there's additional underground parking here, which actually we preferred as keeps the car slightly cooler!

All in all, a fantastic stay, we loved it. We will return and I must say again the staff here are fantastic. Thank you!

Room Tip: If your budget can stretch, go for the suite because you'll get 2 proper beds rather than the pu...

Was concerned reading some of the reviews prior to our stay, but so glad i didn't switch my reservation. This hotel is a great value...for what we paid and what we got - free wifi, free parking, room with balcony, fridge, and microwave...Service is outstanding. Each and every employee we came into contact with asked how our stay was and if we needed anything. For the 3 days we were there bongos had live music through afternoon and evening which we really enjoyed. Prices for both bongos and room service were very reasonable. You have to rent chairs/umbrellas on beach $25 for 2 for the day. The chairs/loungers killed my back. If i was staying more than a few days i would just buy chairs. So much in walking distance we never moved our car. Overall perfect weekend....we will go back

We made our first visit to the St. Pete Beach area May 18-23, 2014 and chose the Grand Plaza Beachfront Resort Hotel after reviewing many other properties in the area. We were not at all disappointed. It is a beautiful hotel with a lot of recent upgrades. Grand Plaza is located right on the beach and pay the extra for the ocean view room. Our bed was high enough that we could look right out over the ocean. The room is not just right for a couple but only more than two would probably be a bit cramped. There is a pull down Murphy Bed in the sitting area. Our balcony overlooked the Bongos Bar and Grill located right on the beach property and it is very nice for lunch and a drink at sunset. They pass around free sunset shooters. We saw three weddings during our stay and I must say it is a perfect spot. There are many restaurants within walking distance to go for dinner or just to watch the sunset which we made sure we saw every night and we have many pictures to remember them. You can also walk to a grocery store, liquor store, outlets, etc. The parking is free and there is no resort fee. You can park undergound if you wish to keep your car out of the direct hot sun. The property is lite up beautifully at night. Some tips for dining are Jimmy B's Beach Bar & Grill, dinner at Spinners Grand Plaza Rooftop restaurant with an AMAZING view, Sandbar Bills, Rick's Reef, Crabby Bills, Silas' Steak House (delicious), and Frog Pond for breakfast. Don't forget to spend an afternoon at Pass-A-Grille. We ran out of time but are saving this for our next trip. Yes, definately, we will return to the Grand Plaza Beachfront Resort Hotel.

Room Tip: Rooms on the south side are quieter. Choose a floor between 5-8 for better views and less AC noise.

My friends and I stayed in a one bedroom suite overlooking the ocean. It was absolutely gorgeous! I meditate in the morning, so the location being right on the beach and the balcony made the experience so relaxing and peaceful. We were also lucky enough to see a wedding being held at the hotel. The ceremony was held on the beach and was just adorable! Would definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: Try to get a room overlooking the ocean, its well worth it.

This was our first time to St Pete Beach and we loved it! When we arrived at the hotel, which we had booked through a third party, we discovered that our accommodations were incorrect, however, no worries because the Manager fixed it immediately, even though it was not their fault. The hotel staff was very warm and welcoming and the location was perfect! The suite was exactly like it stated it would be & the beds were super comfortable; the restaurants were OUTSTANDING! And, even though there were a lot of weddings going on and lots of people, it still did not feel overwhelming or too crowded, even at the restaurants, the pool, or the beach...this is a great place for a family vacation and we will be returning!

Room Tip: Corner suites appear to be larger and get a room that faces the beach so you can listen to the music...
