My husband and I went to St. Pete Beach for his college buddy's wedding at the Don Cesar. We couldn't afford to stay at the Don so we went with the Keystone Motel because it was on a list of suggestions provided by the bride, it had a pool, and best of all was cheap. The rest of his friends (about 15) had already booked rooms down the street at the Inn on the Beach which didn't have a pool.

I got a little worried about our choice of motel when I first made the reservation. I wondered if the woman that took the reservation was either very hard of hearing or just not paying attention. After giving her my credit card number over the phone she said, "OK, great, and what's your credit card number" about five times. I was worried she didn't have our reservation so I asked for a confirmation number and she said "We don't have those here." I knew to call the day before we left on our trip to confirm our stay, but again it took giving my name, which is not a difficult name, about 10 times before she said "Oh here it is."

After we flew into the Tampa Airport, we took a Super Shuttle and were the last ones to be dropped off at the motel at about 9:10pm so we were pretty tired when we got there...only to find the motel office lights off and door locked...with a sign saying the office closed at 9pm. One of the guests standing outside told us that the manager usually leaves a note on the door to check with the Hurricane restaurant next door if guests are checking in after 9 and that even though there was no note we should check with them as the owner also owns the Hurricane. The manager at the Hurricane called and left a message for the hotel manager at his house. After waiting outside for an hour with our luggage the manager (apparently the owner's son) drove up and checked us in...without apologizing once for the inconvenience. We even had to wait about another 10 mins. while he chatted with some girls that came in to say hi to him. So we already had a bad taste in our mouths at this point.

We got a basic motel room so I can't speak for the apartment rooms, but this room was nasty. The bathroom tile, toilet, and sink were obviously original to the motel, and the mold in the shower looked original to the motel as well. We dreaded taking showers the whole time we were there because it was so nasty you had to wear flip flops in the shower. The floors were never cleaned when we were there and I didn't see the maid cleaning the floors in other rooms. The comfortors were nasty too and had blood and other indescribable stains.

We invited our friends staying down the street to hang out at the pool with us one day but the manager, who never apologized for leaving us outside for an hour when we checked in, chased everyone out. We had a feeling they might not be allowed at the pool but there was no need for him to shout at the top of his lungs and handle the situation the way he did. We are all adults.

The night of the wedding we went to the one bar in Pass-a-Grill after the wedding and returned to our room late night at the same time as about six girls being loud and going into their room across the pool. One of our friends decided to stay with us (we had two double beds so it was not a problem). One of the guests came out and saw us going into our room and yelled at us, and the next morning the owner said she had gotten a complaint and accused us of having multiple people staying in our room. We just felt harrassed the whole time we were there.

In talking to families and elderly couples at the motel, they enjoyed their stay, but definitely avoid the motel if you are younger (under 35) and in a larger group. If you do choose to stay here because of the price and the pool, bring your shower shoes, be sure to check in before 9pm (though the owner walks away and locks the office door for hours at a time all day so you will likely have to wait around to check in anyhow), and be sure to throw the bed spread off the bed!

No problems here....we checked in early, had a great time at the pool and the beach. The hotel is next to the best restaurant in Pass A Grille The Hurricane. The best grouper on the beach and not to pricey for what you get. They do have a live band on the weekends but from our room we could not hear it after we went to bed.
The rooms are very clean and most have been remodeled with tile floors or wood. The beds are very nice and the decor is very fitting for the beach, but not tacky.
This is perfect for young couples or families with teenagers. Not so much for little kids unless they are content with the beach and pool. No game rooms or playgrounds.

Overall very nice. There is a lady that works there that is a little rough around the edges but all the other nice things kinda over power her gruff persona.

Will be staying here again.

The Keystone made for an AMAZING get away. The hotel is a diamond in the ruff and newly renovated. The people at the hotel are friendly and go out of their way to make the experience nothing but great. I will be back and hopefully sooner than later!!

Tryed to book 8 rooms for a family reunion 2nd week in September and after several attempts of calling finally a lady answered and said she can't rent to us. Very rude. We booked down the road at Thunderbird Beach Resort - they accepted our money.

The Keystone Motel has been around for a long time, but it doesn't show. It is located right across the street from the beach, nothing blocking view as there are no hotels directly on the beach....family operated...good location....clean rooms...kind and considerate staff. It was our first time there, but it seemed like most folks had been coming for years. Yes, it's a simple place, relaxed...but that's what Pass-a-Grille is all about.
