He went out on their half day fishing trip twice and really enjoyed the trip. He said Capt Mike and his crew were great. He also bought bait, and a few other things at the Merry Pier. He will definitely be going back when we return.

This pier is also the dock for local fishing excursion boats and the shell island tour boat. We hung out there waiting for the next shell island boat to leave. We saw several people earnestly fishing and a couple of them were having some luck. The little store and bait shop is just that a store and bait shop, nothing fancy but the people are friendly and the bathrooms were clean. It looks like a good laid back spot to try your luck fishing. It cost nothing to hang out there and watch those fishing and enjoy the bay view. Of course the ever present pelicans are there to watch and photo up close.

We really enjoyed our day fishing off Merry Pier. My son and husband were delighted to catch 8 fish and also see lots more in the water below. The rods were hired quite cheaply at the shop and they were very accommodating when we lost a couple of hooks and replaced them. Well worth trying.

Never been fishing before on the Gulf of Mexico, Miss Pass-a Grille is great for the novice. Took bottled water and lunch and headed out to sea. The captain and 1st mate have great personalities, they guide and help you the entire time, baiting, taking the fish off hook etc..I actually snagged a 300 lb. sea turtle of which the captain had to handle as my delicate frame couldn't handle all that weight, it eventually broke the line, went home with some fish that they filet there before we left. I would go back again, had a great time for only $50.00 per person, plus tip. Better than paying $300-$500. for a smaller charter, he guarantee's fish! This is something fun for children to do as well, I believe an 8 yr old boy, actually caught the biggest fish on our trip that day.
