“Exactly what I expected. Location was great.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 August 2011

Our family stayed in a 1st floor room close to the lobby. This is not a 4-5 star hotel, so I did not expect ultra modern rooms, but it was clean and had everything needed for a family with a small child. Wi-fi, free parking, coffee in the lobby each morning and the kitchen were a plus. Conveniently located across the street from a 7-eleven, Subway and several nice restaurants within walking distance. Front desk folks recommended Snapper's for seafood and it was excellent. The Publix grocery store was also close by for regular stocking of groceries.

It was a short walk to the pools or ocean. There were tons of shells at the ocean. We stopped collecting on day 3. We didn't use the cabanas or eat/drink at Jimmy B's. The bands at the bar were great to listen to when sitting poolside. It was not a big deal cutting through the bar to head to the beach. At the big pool there were noodles, rafts, and snorkels available for everyone to use. Pretty much looked like people buy items and then leave them there when they leave. This was great for kids. We saw staff clearing out the excess when it appeared they had an overload of toys. The smaller pool had a limit of 10 people. It was cozy and gave a nice chance to chat with other vacationers.

We went to Clearwater one day for the pirate ship (Captain Memo's was fantastic for small kids). St. Pete Beach area in general felt much less touristy than the Clearwater area. I would definitely go there again.

We have stayed at other hotels on St. Pete Beach but none of them even compare to the Beachcomber in cleanliness, friendliness and value!

Room Tip: The best room we have found is the ground floor close to the small pool. It is pretty quiet there.

After reading all the reviews, I decided to try it anyway. I only stayed for a weekend getaway with my wife and kids. I told my family to lower the expectation so we will not be disappointed. I am glad we did because we've got it as we expected!

The resort has a typical old resort architecture. The lobby is nice and spacious. No elevator. As we open the door of our room, we instantly smell the old fabric and old carpet. The curtain and the blankets are so old and smells old. Furniture seems from 1970's. Paint looks old too. Pillows seems it has been use a thousand times. I am really glad we brought our own pillows. Positive side is it is clean and everything is functional. Bed is comfortable. Bathroom is clean. I hope they invest for a room freshener, better pillows, blankets and flooring. They can also update the room color and furnitures. For the $ 385.00 they charge me for 2 nights, I think I deserve a better room. I hope management would consider it because competition seems very though in St. Pete resorts. The pool is OK...kids enjoyed it although a water slide will be a big plus. The beach is a little farther than what I expected. I like the band. The bar is good. Food is average. Parking is a problem. We think twice of driving late because of the parking problem.

The Staff in charge at the beach for the cabana is always in the phone. People hesitate to ask him for help because he is always on the phone. He did not help us to set up the cabana because he is on the phone. I hope he could have a blue tooth earpiece so it is not so obvious that he is in the phone all the time. Sunday morning at 10:00 the walkway to the beach has beer cans and plastic cups everywhere. House keepers are very courteous and they are the only one who greet us everyday. They are the only one who smiles to us everyday.

It is hard for me to recommend a place like this. The biggest negative factor is the room, the worn out pillows and the old smell of the fabrics!

This hotel was adequate for our vacation. The room was bigger than we expected because it had a small kitchenette which included a small table to use our laptops. The internet in the room is blazing fast and was very easy to connect to. We had a room on the second floor that was farther away from the bar so noise wasn't an issue. I could see it being loud though if you were near the bar (Jimmy B's). Short walk to the beach (<3 minutes). Rooms were somewhat outdated but once again good for the price.

Room Tip: Get a 2nd floor room, away from Jimmy B's

the pictures online were not very accurate, but the hotel was o.k. It;s an older hotel that is being fixed up. Nice pools, directly on the beach, live entertainment in the beach bar, not bad at all.
However, rooms could be cleaner, and the beds were horrid. They said they were workking on therse problems.

Room Tip: two story building, get a room on the first floor, dark stairways to get upstairs.

My boyfriend and I stayed at this hotel between July 11-July 15. We have never been to this area of Florida. After reading the reviews we picked the Beachcomber. We were very pleased. We stayed on the secnd floor outside the quiet pool. It was really great staying there as you could come and go from the beach all day. Yes it was hot but we love the hot weather as long as we can cool off and this location was Perfect. After exploring at night different restaurants in the area it is great to park the car and watch the sunset and then enjoy a different band every night and not have to drive. A special thank you to all the bartenders they were great. Expecially Darlene she was the best. She tried her hardest for me to get to see the Red Sox as they were in town. We will return many times in the future.
