The Alden was perfect. We wanted a relaxing vacation on the beach and that is exactly what we got.

We stayed in a beach front room on the 6th floor. I would recommend a room on a higher floor for the wonderful views.

It looked as if our room had recently been updated, new flat screens, new furniture, new bedding, etc. The size of the room was perfect for two people. I loved the large balcony. The week we were there, the area was experiencing lower than normal temperatures, so the beach was rather chilly. However, I was able to sit in the lounge chair on my balcony and get in some relaxation time. The room itself was very clean. The hotel staff was very pleasant and friendly. It always seems to be the small things that mean the most and that was the case here. I loved the fact that the cleaning staff left extra towels under the sink each time they cleaned the room. We always had at least 6 towels and 4 beach towels. It's nice not to have to ask for extra.

The location of the Alden is perfect. There are many restaurants within walking distance or a short drive away. I would recommend Skidders (Italian) and Agave (Mexican). Skidders had wonderful pizza and I have to say that Agave was one the best meals we had in St. Pete. For excellent steak and seafood, visit Leverocks, a short drive down on South Pasedena.

The beach was beautiful and clean, some of the best sunsets I have seen.

If you are looking for a quiet, relaxing vacation, then the Alden and St. Pete Beach are for you!

We arrived after 2 days in a very relaxed small hotel in Fort Lauderdale and were a little shocked at first as the Alden Beach is a little tatty and worn and full of noisy families.

The pools are small but the temperature is good for small kids. The beach is very wide and the kids loved it.

Because there is no on-site restaurant you have to either cook in (and the BBQ pits were very popular) or go to a restaurant, and there are many nearby - Crabby Bills is fantastic for informal seafood. The Publix supermarket nearby is fantastic.

Basically if you want a fun family holiday and dont mind noisy kids and parents drinking beer by the pool then the Alden can be great fun and is good value for money.

The Alden is ideally situated right on the beach (a superb beach at that). Close to good restaraunts, supermarkets, liquor stores (Norman's Liqor is the best and cheapest for miles if not all of Florida - opposite the Grand Plaza Hotel) etc. The Hotel is undergoing a modernisation - new beds, furniture, flat screen TVs etc - saw them being delivered - all looks very nice for future stays. Our room hadn't yet been updated (was needing some modernisation but clean, tidy and no complaints). The room was on the 2nd floor (corner) in the lanai block with a balcony looking out onto the beach (room 230). A breahtaking view. The beach bar and pool are relatively quiet - compared to some of the hotels e.g. the Sirata a little bit down the beach. The staff were very friendly and accommodating - with the excception of a late check out (after a 9 nights stay) as the hotel was fully booked. Many of the parking lot spaces are covered, which is good when it is hot - 89 degrees F in mid October! Some good selections for dining include Spinners roof top restaraunt at the Grand Plaza Hotel, the Thai Restaraunt at the Dolphin Village and Cody's Roadhouse opposite Tyrone Shopping Mall (but this is 3 miles away). The Pirate Ship Cruise at Madeira Beach is good for young kids. You can hire a rod for an hour or two and buy some bait at the Merry Pier at Pass a Grille - a lovely area 2 miles to the south. Good fun. There was real buzz about St Pete Beach as the Tampa Bay Devil Rays were fighting it out with the Boston Red Sox - Baseball Fever broke out everywhere - Go Rays beat he Phillies! I think that it would be difficult to go far wrong staying anywhere on this stretch of beach.

We have just returned from a 14 day holiday at this excellent hotel overlooking the beach at St Pete's beach. The hotel is not too large to be impersonal, and the standard of rooms and services was very good. The rooms are in the process of being updated, but no apparent effect on guests staying there. We saw some of the new look rooms and were very impressed, as our room was in a good state anyway. We look forward to staying here again in the future and would not hesitate to recommend this hotel to anyone. We've stayed in numerous hotels along the beachfront and this one is well worth a visit.

Great Family vacation resort with 2 separate room; 2 Queen beds in our Bermuda ocean front suite. Full sofa bed and full efficiency kitchen. Property has 2 heated outdoor pools plus 2 jacuzzi's. Beachside Bar was open daily until about 9PM. Small exercise facilty. Laundry room, if needed. Close by to restaurants and stores including Publix.

We watched a nice Fireworks display from a neighboring property. Negatives; noisy guests and lack of balconies to sit on. Grills didn't want to work this weekend.
