We stayed at this hotel for one night, as part of our 13 day fly drive tour of Florida in mid-May, booked via Allied Tpro.

You can certainly see this pink landmark from many miles away!

We had a superior room on the second floor overlooking the side elevation and a small car park.

We checked in late afternoon and unfortunately we only managed to get a quick swim in, in the heated pool and spa, as a torrential thunderstorm (and tornado warning close by) then came in and limited our time outside.

Our room was very clean, well decorated and furnished and was slightly off the main corridor run, so was quite as well. There was a room safe, mini bar/snacks, free Wi-Fi in the room, free parking, housekeeping gratuity which are all included in the resort fee ($22). The two double beds were very comfortable. All the staff were very friendly.

We had both evening meal and breakfast in the Sea Porch restaurant which were very good although perhaps the evening meal was slightly expensive.

We certainly saw nothing that would put us off going back again and look forward to another visit when we next visit Florida and maybe stay longer.

We did visit Fort De Soto Park and fort nearby, before we checked in, and that is worth a visit - $5 parking fee.

My husband and I spent last weekend at The Don. We have enjoyed other hotels recommended by TripAdvisor, but this was the best! Every employee we encountered, greeted us and asked if we needed anything. Nate Chapa, Assistant Front Office Manager, checked us in and mentioned that he would try to get us a balcony room if we would like. On the second day of our stay, I was notified that MY balcony room was ready! The view and the room were beautiful. We were surprised when a bellman delivered champagne and a snack tray to us. The accompanying note wished us "Happy 30th Anniversary" from Nate! Another special person at Don Cesar is Nicki Herbst, Concierge. I met Nicki while shopping at the hotel and immediately made a new friend. She gave us suggestions for good restaurants and fun activities. Nicki even gave us directions over the phone when we couldn't find a restaurant. The Don is a majestic building, sitting on a gorgeous beach. Nate, Nicki, and other employees fill it with warm, Southern hospitality. The hotel is beautiful, but its people make it grand!

We have just returned from our second stay at the Don Cesar. We love this hotel. The staff is incredibly friendly. From the moment we walked in, we were treated very well. The bellmen staff is really friendly. Two of them even remembered us from our last visit (even though it’s been a whole year). Last year we had a really outstanding room; the bellman tried really hard to get us the room, but we ended up being pleased with the room we received. During both visits we traveled with our little boy. Last year he received a small Little People toy car which he still plays with. The toys were replaced with a book. Not the same, but it was still nice to get a treat for our child. Our room was very clean with a nice view. The staff is really great about getting lounge chairs set up at the pool and beach. Great service. I participated in Beach Yoga. It was a great class and the water aerobics class looked fun too. We didn’t have a good experience last year at the Sea Porch restaurant, so we skipped it this year and took advantage of the pool side dining at the Beachcomber Bar & Grill. The service was excellent and the fish tacos were the best I’d ever had. The manager, Adam came out to ensure we were taken care of; He was excellent. We tried to get Happy Hour at the Sunsets Tequila Bar, as the website explains happy hour is M-F from 3pm-7pm. But, the sign posted in the bar specifies happy hour is M-Th. I tried to not be obnoxious, but I pointed out the website posted different times. What can I say, I like me a good happy hour. We had ice cream at Uncle Andy’s. We love it there. The staff was very friendly and the ice cream was actually cheaper than our local Kilwin’s. So, we were happy! We also ate at Crabby Bills (down Gulf Blvd) one evening. We have been to Crabby Bills numerous times before. But, we were not thrilled with our experience this time. We were unable to sit at the table until our whole party arrived. Under normal circumstances, I could totally understand this. But, it was 5pm and no one was there! Then, I got booted out of the table at the bar. If it wasn’t for the outrageous happy hour (I got 5 beers for $9; amber bock and shock top) I would never go back. We also tried the Sloppy Pelican (a little further down Gulf Blvd) which we loved. The Fisherman’s platter was huge enough for my husband and I to share. The service was great too! We’ll definitely be back for those delicious French fries. In all, I would recommend the Don Cesar. The service is outstanding and I really felt as if we were at an upscale resort. Enjoy your stay!

From the moment we checked in until the day we left (we were there 7 days) we loved the Don Cesar. The people who work at hotel are all very friendly and helpful. The staff at the Sea Porch are exceptionally nice and are great food servers. They would remember I like 2% milk in my coffee, very helpful with recommendations of the food, just fabulous. The Sea porch staff are so happy and wonderful to see first thing in the morning. The pool people are exceptional as well. One morning there was a little shower and they put all our things that we left on the chairs in plastic bags. They are so nice and never act like you are bothering them. The beach bar's staff is very nice too. But the drinks are so expensive you don't even feel like having them. There is no happy hour at the pool bar either. The pool food is pretty good-but again expensive. Housekeeping was wonderful! We asked for our room to be cleaned by a certain time and they did everyday!! The rooms are very nicely kept even though it is an older hotel-they rooms are a little small but very nicely appointed!! I was so impressed with the Don Cesar!! Wonderful hotel!

Hotel is completely updated, yet retains its historic charm. Our room had a tiled shower and a claw-foot tub. You must specifically request the historic property or you may end up at their ancillary location 4 blocks north (staff was kind enough to relocate us when we politely expressed our disappointment at not having a room at the old hotel)! Staff was outstandingly helpful and professionally courteous. Drinks at the bar were pricey but generously sized. Sea Porch restaurant was disappointing - our hamburger sliders were flavorless except for the extremely strong cheese they were lathered in. However, our room service breakfast was outstanding. On a busy weekend, not enough poolside or beach chairs. Cabanas $25 extra for guests. Will go back when hotel is not so busy with holiday guests, as I am sure that it will be a 5-star experience.

Room Tip: Our room was right off the lobby and outside of the bridge to valet parking, yet we were not disturb...
