“Great Family Resort”

Great value, very family friendly resort. Lots of things for the kids to do. The kiddie pool was great because the kids can swim without you having to be in the pool with them. Kids loved the free pirate show. The food was good, service was really good. i would go again.

This is my second trip to Island Grand, two other times at Sandpiper. This is also the second time I have chaperoned a high school Senior Trip at Island Grand. Awesome choice for a group of seniors since there is so much to do on property. We have stayed both times in the oceanfront condos using 2 and 3 bedroom options. That helps with keeping track of everyone, extra bathrooms, but we request the mini-bar to be locked on arrival. :) There is also a kitchen available to eat in for breakfast and lunch with many food options onsite and nearby. I have no one else in high school now, maybe I'll just volunteer to go so I can return to Island Grand.

My wife and I celebrated our 25th Anniversary at the Island Grand in April. We had never been to this part of Florida before and were very pleased with the hotel setting and it being directly on the Gulf (right before the BP disaster). We were greeted quickly at the front desk and were quite delighted when management upgraded our king room to a gulf front suite.

The room was quite large, with separate queen bedroom as you enter the suite. There was the bath in the middle of the room with a large sitting area facing the gulf. There was a full size stove and refrigerator adjacent to the sitting area. The suite also included a deck overlooking the gulf. Our room looked directly onto but over the huge water slide that is provided for the guests.

Although there is a daily resort fee, we were given a reduced price when making the reservation (I believe $15/day). We also qualified for the $250.00 Resort Credit when we made our arrangements. This came in quite handy for dinner and breakfast. But it can be used on other items as well; drinks, spa, deli items, etc.

Overall, I would rank this facility at the top of any resorts we have visited. Our service was great from beginning to end. There were a variety of restaurants, bars and sitting areas throughout the resort. Although close to several of these amenities, we never experienced any excessive noise or interruptions. I would give Island Grand, two thumbs up!

The word "resort" to me, means luxury. This is an old hotel with dirty, outdoor walkways and hotel room entrances. My room was a standard room with 2 double beds. It was very small. The rug was dirty and constantly felt damp. The bed sheets were low quality and housekeeping insists on tightly tucking the sheets in around the sides of the bed as well as the bottom! The result is you are forced to pull out the top sheet and blanket to enter the bed and in doing so, end up pulling out the bottom sheet as well. I woke up everyday with a portion of bare mattress showing........ewwwwwwwww!
The walls are concrete and stucco. The restaurants are fairly good and the beach access is excellent. I just would not go as far as to all this place a "resort".

Oh, and the lady who works in the coffee bar in the lobby is nasty.

We were originally scheduled to be at the Sandpiper based on the tips from other hotel guests on Tripadvisor. We checked into the Sandpiper and it was small, stuffy and outdated. The suite with a view of the pool and ocean was lackluster, so we requested another room. Unfortunately/Fortunately another room was not available at the Sandpiper but was available at the Island Grand. The parking lot was better, service better, lobby prettier, rooms wonderful. Our suite was bigger and better than the Sandpiper and the view was amazing. We enjoyed it so much we extended our stay another day. The pools have lots of activities throughout the day. Great for family resort yet not inundated with kids so we still had our privacy. The beach slide is a must! The resort fee of $25.00 takes care of parking fees, cabana fees, paddle boats at the resort, and activities at the pools. You can charge anything associated with the hotel to your room by using your room-key (even the tiki bars and jet ski). So much to do you don't have to leave the beach!

This was our 4th trip to the Tradewinds - we always enjoy it - the staff at this resort are unbeliveable! We took our entire family this trip - kids and grandkids- ages 5 years to 17 years and everybody had a great time. Nobody got bored. The only thing we don't care for are the restaurants - andf they aren't the greatest - better food is available on Gulf Boulevard -But we will return - we love it - the management of the Tradewinds can thank their staff because they are the best - beginning with Maria at the front desk - Albert the doorman and Josephine in the deli!

We returned to the Tradewinds for our 3rd year in a row and had a fantastic time. Weather was perfect, accomodations were great, newly decorated room. We love vacationing here and meeting up with people that we have met from prevous trips and also meeting new friends. Grounds are clean, employees are friendly and helpful. We look forward to going back again!!
