My wife and I love Sushi and although we have lived in St. Petersburg for more than six years we have never tried Hook's - until last night.
We arrived on a Friday evening at about 7:45 pm to find the parking lot - a very small one - full. However, we were able to find on street parking.
First, we perused the menu and noticed that in addition to Sushi the restaurant has a smattering of Japanese, Thai, and Korean dishes. However, we were interested in sushi and that is what we ordered.
We started by having some miso soup. This was probably the best miso soup I have ever tasted. Fresh, not overly salty, and not artificial tasting. Rather, it was tasty and was perfect for preparing us for the sushi that would follow.
We ordered two different kinds of sashimi: tuna and salmon. Both were fresh and tasty. The serving consists of three pieces of sashimi ($5 for the salmon and $7 for the tuna).
We also ordered some rolls that are a much better buy. We had the following rolls: Crunchy, VIP, Dragon, and Spyder rolls. All were excellent - about the best we have had in ages. The VIP was a particular favorite with just about the right "kick" to it to make it stand out.
Service was very good and this place offers incredible value. The one thing I would like to see as an improvement is a special dish, such as a boat that other places offer, that contains various pieces of Sushi, Sashimi, rolls, etc. to have more variety.
