“Great Hotel”
Reviewed 25 November 2013 via mobile

We ran the Women's St. Pete half marathon and stayed at this hotel. Samantha the desk clerk was extremely kind and friendly. She was helpful in the check in and out process. House keeping was great too. They brought everything extra we needed and even included some extra towels that we didn't. The pool area was beautiful and the poolside good and service were exceptional as well. I would absolutely stay here again.

This is an old "pink palace" Florida hotel (similar in style to Don Cesar on St. Pete Beach). The rooms in the older part of the hotel are a bit small and are beginning show their age. Rooms on the back of the hotel overlook AC units ... thus some noise. The rooms in the newer tower are better with more updated bathrooms and larger room spaces with balconies. The big, heated pool and the exercise area are great (and complimentary classes are a nice touch). The prices for buffet breakfast is very high; a "grab and Go" breakfast on the verandah works at a reasonable cost.

Room Tip: If you can get one in the new Tower (from the 1990's) the bathrooms are more up-to-date.

Location is perfect, hotel staff is excellent, and the lobby cafe offers many delicious food & drink items! However, my room was very tired looking, and overpriced. I went to enjoy some spa services, and was quite pleased, especially with massages from Paul and Christine. The foot ritual treatment with Katie was outstanding. The quality of the services and their professional providers more than made up for the lack of a spa environment. The Vinoy magazine found in my room states "opulent day spa and salon" ... I only noticed two treatment rooms towards the rear of the salon and two in the fitness center, around the corner from the spa and where you'll find the showers, steam, sauna, jacuzzi and lockers. Very inconvenient for guests and not conducive to relaxation. Never the less, you will receive great treatments.

This hotel was nice! I loved the view of the bay. The only thing that would make it better is if it was on the beach! (Which you just can't do! ) Super close to a ton of restaurants and again the view of the bay was amazing. The hotel restaurant was also good.

we refer to places like the vinoy as BOD's. big old dumps. i'm here now in a tiny room that smells slightly of mildew thinking about the many ways the management squeezes extra revenue out of the guests. parking, internet services, drink prices, meal prices etc. do yourself a favor if you visit st. petersburg and investigate the new boutique hotels here. the vinoy is not a good value.

I was very excited to finally try out the Vinoy. From the outside the property is obviously historic St. Petersburg. The setting on the bay was lovely and inviting.

My initial entrance into he Vinoy was just lovely. The lobby is historic yet very modern. I honestly wish I had a house that looked like the lobby. The check-in desk did not over power the lobby and I felt welcomed. The front desk reps offered water and a fast check-in.

I went out for a run one day and the front desk offered cold water as well on my return. Unexpected treat that goes a long way!

Now the rooms, this is where it gets a little dodgy. It's kind of like the lottery. I checked in with a group and a bunch of us showed off our rooms. I had a standard room with a window and large square, basic bathroom. Two people in our group however had MUCH nicer rooms at the same rate. Ones with Juliet balconies and hallways leading to their bathrooms. Their room was MUCH nicer than mine.

The downside of the room is that it was standard furniture and look. I always wish the trendy, modern, stylish lobby furnishings would translate into the room but it did not in any way. The room furniture was basic run of the mill hotel furniture. My room was also rather dark based on being in the corner near the elevator. My suggestion is ask a lot of questions about the room before committing.

Value? Well I found the property to be a bit overpriced. It is definitely more expensive that other local hotels. Some of that price is justified but overall I can't say that it is completely worth it if you are watching your budget.

Room Tip: Ask about room floor plan as there are many ranges.

I won a night at the Vinoy in a golf raffle. We reserved a night in the middle of the week. We upgraded for $30 to a room on the 7th floor facing the marina. It was lovely and had a fantastic view. The room was large and had two queen beds, a desk, and seating. We enjoyed walking around the waterfront park and downtown. You have to visit with the Old Timers softball team nearby. To join you have to be 75! In the evening they had bar service outdoors around tables with fire pits or you could sit inside and watch football at the lobby bar. I say "watch" because there is no sound on the televisions. The staff was professional and yet friendly.

Room Tip: Definitely ask for a waterfront view.
