“Annual Golf Trip”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 March 2011

Our annual golf trip was spent at Sandestin. there were 7 of us who stayed in (2) 2 bdrm condos at the Observation Point North. Very nice facility and excellent location. We overlooked The Village, and had access to all restraunts within minutes from our door. Guest Services were excellent in making sure we got to the golf courses each day, and even had our golf clubs transported and waiting for us to the course the following day. We all came down in a Motor Home, and our agent made sure we were set up with where to park, and how to get to our facilities. Checking in at the Grand Sandestin was so easy and the Bellhops were very attentive with our luggage and golf clubs. We all thought that the service and facilities were excellent and the quantity and variety of restraunts and night life were exceptional. We're all looking forward to our return visit!

When I booked this trip I was totally lost. I knew I wanted us to stay at the Sandestin Resort but was confused at which part of Sandestin to stay in becuase it's huge and read mixed reviews. I almost booked on Orbitz because I thought it was a good rate but I'm so glad I called the Sandestin Resort direct instead. The lady I spoke with (Gina) totally explained the entire resort to me and all of the different options of where to stay at Sandestin. She listened to what was important to our family and price point and recommended the Luau (closer to the beach) or the Grand Sandestin (closer to restaurants, shopping). We ended up choosing the Grand Sandestin. The lady we spoke with at Sandestin Resort proceeded to ask exactly what we wanted in a room. We were able to request exactly what we wanted which included an amazing view and we got it at no additional cost! The rate ended up being lower than Orbitz and we were able to hand select our room. We chose the Grand Sandestin because of the huge beautiful pool area and mainly because it's in walking distance to Baytowne Wharf which is full of great restaurants, shopping and fun things for kids to do. When we arrived at the resort our expectations were exceeded! We travel alot and have been to many resorts but there's something really special about the Grand Sandestin. It's beautiful! Gorgeous landscaping and the place was spotless. It's so elegant and has it's own style which separates it from the tons of beach high rise condominiums. It's different, it's welcoming, it's more like a resort instead of a condominium. We had never stayed at an individual owned resort so that's another reason why we chose the Grand Sandestin-it's more like a resort instead of a condominium. There's a front desk you can always call and there's a huge pool area instead of the small rectangle pools at many of the beach condos. Preston from guest relations is unbelievable! He went beyond customer service and was happy to help our family with any of our needs. The room was awesome! It was so clean had a full kitchen (with dishes. pot. pans), washer and dryer and a great view of the bay and pool. It was updated (which is something I'm picky about) with granite, warm paint colors, nice bedding-it was perfect! As soon as you pull into Sandestin on the bay side it's has something the beach side just doesn't have. The grounds are gorgeous and there's families riding bikes everywhere and you're surrounded by the beautiful golf course. It's just couldn't be any better. We visited the beach side of the Sandestin resorts (including Westwinds) very nice as well but the Grand Sandestin was the best hands down in our opinion. There's free parking at the Grand Sandestin and the elevator in the garage takes you right up to the floor your room is on. It's not a big deal to drive over to the Sandestin beach area and they have a free shuttle. It's easy and we preferred being able to walk to dinner every night at our choice of great restaurants at Baytowne Wharf and the fun things for the kids to do like the life size hamster balls, huge tree house thing, zip line, cool playground, bungee, horse carousel (for our youngest) and a great ice cream shop. It's all right there when you walk outside of the Grand Sandestin. The white sand beaches were of course our favorite spot but it was nice to be in walking distance of your room at the end of the night which is another reason we prefer the Grand Sandestin. I've never felt inclined to write review on Trip Advisor but this trip I had to share. The whole family had a great time and didn't want to leave!

The resort was so big, it required a car ride to get to the beach, a restaurant or any amenities. There was only one check-in for the entire huge resort which meant a short drive and a long wait for check in or to change room keys or anything else. Ugh! Also, everyone in the entire complex of towers and condos and townhomes and hotels had to crowd onto one small beach area. This meant a very overcrowded beach.

On the positive side, it did have lots of amenities, but the pools were not heated and we did not have time to use the other amenities, such as the bicycles but they looked like fun. We did use the boogie boards and they were fun.

But the second day of our stay, we opted to drive away from the crowds and head to a state park. We had a much better time there and could spread out enough to throw a frisbee and build a sand castle, etc. Aaah!

If you want a good spot on the beach, you must get up early every morning to out maneuver the rude beach service who is taking the premium spots. This and an average condo means find another spot.

I like this place. It has everything one needs in a resort from restaurants to bars to pools and tennis. Stayed 3 nights and didn't leave the property. No need to leave. The meeting facilities were centrally located and pretty nice. There are several hotel buildings on the property where it looks like people own as well as rent. I stayed in the Pilot House. Room wasn't that great. Small with no desk or chair. Tiny TV and small closet. Wasn't impressed with the room at all. I'm sure there are nicer rooms than the one I got. However, it was close to restaurants and bars so I spent little time in the room. I would go back again. I wouldn't stay in that building again but the resort is nice.

My husband and I spent 3 nights at Baytowne Wharf for a much needed relaxing get-away. As repeat guests, we always anticipate which unit we will be staying in and we were not disappointed! It was a very well appointed one-bedroom with a great patio opening right onto the main "street" of Baytowne. The only negative of the entire stay wsa that the shuttle bus did not run until 3:00 p.m. so we had to take our car out when we wanted to venture outside of Baytowne. Bummer - since the shuttle bus is one of the great features of the Sandestin experience.

Dispite the fact that we rolled into town with a tremendous truckload of centerpieces for the SITE-SE Conference (and frankly looked like the Beverly hillbillies), your staff was extraordinarily attentive and helpful in unloading, set-up and logistics for the entire 3-day event. I want to especially applaud Keri at the front desk and Dan the Banquet Assis. Manager for their ability to make it all happen flawlessly- Bravo to Sandestin and these delightful folks!
