Location is fabulous, but some improvements needed. We had a gulf front room, but having to crawl over the bed (as there is barely six inches between bed and wall) was some what comical! Bathroom nicely redone with good shower and thick towels. No ice bucket in the room though. Having read that securing a beach chair and umbrella could be a challenge, we would hike to the beach the minute they were set up in the morning and claim one. The free breakfast was tended by a very helpful person. Hard boiled eggs were way too rubbery though. The tiki bar next door at the main property was very fun. Ordered a great lunch there that was very well prepared. Maybe would return for another visit, if we were assured some things had improved.

3rd times a charm.... This was our 3rd Birthday in Sanibel at the Song of the Sea. We had such a relaxing time. It is such a charming hotel. The staff are very helpful. Though we miss Cheryl :(
I would recommend the Song of the Sea if you want a nice quiet place on the beach. We will be back in October to celebrate our Anniversary.

We just got back from our third visit to Sanibel Island, Fl. We have always stayed at The Song of the Sea Resort, it never disappoints. The resort is small and personal, a very nice change from the large resorts that the guests sometimes don't get that extra home feel from the staff.

Cindy and Natale at the front desk couldn't be nicer. Always greeting you with a warm smile and hello whenever you walk into the casual and welcoming front office. They have a continental breakfast that's included with your stay. It is more then just danish and coffee. They have fresh made belgian waffles, bagels, breakfast breads, donuts, yogurt, cereal, juice, coffee, tea and an abundance of fresh fruit and much more, every morning. The breakfast ladies are courteous and friendly, always replenishing what is needed and making sure you have everything you need. The housekeeping staff as well are thorough and accomodating.

The resort also offers free bikes to take out at your leisure to explore the island. Beach chairs and umbrellas are set up daily on the beach for your use. They even welcome you to your room with a complimentary bottle of wine.
I could go on about the Song of the Sea but maybe you should just find out for yourself and book your next beach getaway there.
Thanks again for a lovely weekend!
Pete and Cindy

Room Tip: Gulfview Coastal King rooms upstairs-very roomy with nice views

This is a very small property with a great location. It is beachfront and has a pool and hot tub. When we were there the pool water was almost as hot as the hot tub, so we never went in the hot tub. Beach chairs, umbrellas and bikes were included and generally no problem getting them when we needed them. We didn't get to use the outdoor grills, but did play shuffleboard. We thought the breakfasts were fine and used the little kitchenette to keep other snacks and drinks. A tiki hut/bar at the next property was convenient for lunches. The room was clean and the bed comfortable. Our view was of the pool area with a little glimpse of the Gulf. There was a screened balcony- but it was usually too hot out to enjoy it. The breeze at the beach was more inviting.

The "innkeeper" was very friendly and helpful. I've seen this hotel described as romantic-- not sure about that, there were mostly families when we were there and a lot of foreign travelers.

We just returned from Sanibel Island, and Song of the Sea, and we already miss being there! We loved everything about this hotel, from having a pool-side room to the breakfast to being a short walk to the beach. The service was very friendly, the rooms were very clean and very welcoming, the staff was very friendly, always with smiles on their faces.

My husband and I stayed here with our children 21 and 18. All of us had a great time. Enjoyed the room and the beach was fantastic. Everyone was very helpful and curtious and liked the fact of the laundry facility! We would stay here again.

A nice beach hotel on a nice island. Not fancy or state of the art, but adjacent to the beach with a nice pool and spa (hot tub). Beach chairs and umbrellas provided by hotel. Complimentary breakfast was very basic and after first day went out for breakfast. There are a number of shops on the Sanibel Island, but they closed too early and by about 7pm or so. 8pm would be better. Not much too do after dinner. Bridge to island from mainland is $6.00 charge onto island (no charge getting off island). Must use public beaches if you want to go to a beach other than the one the hotel is located at unless you are ok with paying $2.00 per hour to park (24/7 as per the signs in the parking lots). There are some other beach areas on the island that are not privately owned or designated public beaches, but they appear to be limited to property owners as the parking at those beach areas is restricted to permit holders only. Sanibel Island seems to welcome tourist money, but it also wants to limit and control where the tourists can go and that is a little troubling. Nice hotel, but I probably won't be back because of the island itself and the ridiculous toll to get onto the island.
