My family and I have stayed here at least 5 times or so over the last few years. If you are going to Sanibel, this is the place to stay. The staff are friendly, and the location is perfect. Couldn't ask for anything better.

On our first trip to Sanibel, we stayed here because it got great reviews on TripAdvisor. The reviewers were spot on -- We really enjoyed our stay and wouldn't hesitate to come back.Everything was exactly as advertised. We stayed 5 nights right after Memorial Day weekend, which was a fairly uncrowded week. We had looked at reviews of pricey hotels in the
Naples/Marco Island area and didn't like the idea of paying extra for beach umbrellas, chairs, and parking on top of the already high room rates. Sanibel Siesta doesn't charge extra for those basic amenities, plus you're staying in a really nice large condo. Read on if you want details:

The condo - This complex has individually owned 2-BR condos. We stayed in #703 and it was super nice - very spacious and clean, attractively decorated in "Florida beach" style. Everything in the condo looked new, especially the kitchen appliances. My husband and I didn't really need that much space, but it was nice to have room to spread out and more than one TV in the evening. The free WiFi worked fine. We'll be totally spoiled now if we need to stay in a typical hotel room somewhere! This unit was very quiet, no noise problems of any kind. Bed was comfortable for a rental unit. The entrance side of the condo looked out on the Holiday Inn pool and pool bar next door. From that side, you could also see quite a ways down the beach. Building 7 is one building back from the beach on the top (third) floor, so this unit had a partial gulf view from the screened lanai. We typically like a better view of the beach, but this was a last minute trip, so we didn't see many (affordable) beach front units available. Each unit here has its own beach umbrella and beach chairs that you carry to the beach, but then you have control over them and don't have to get up early to "claim a spot" like you do at some hotels.

The staff - The two ladies we dealt with in the front office were very nice and went the extra mile to ensure that we enjoyed our stay. They truly want you to have a good experience here. They were very helpful and accomodating about everything. They quickly brought us a brand new beach umbrella and 4 new beach chairs when they found out our unit was missing a beach umbrella.

The grounds and pool - The property is has tropical landscaping and everything is well maintained. The pool area is nice, with tiki hut type umbrellas for shade. The pool is next to the office, not adjacent to the beach, but this was good when the beach sometimes got very windy when an afternoon thunderstorm was nearby. My only minor complaint was that the pool water was very warm - I don't think there's anything to be done about that, it is Florida in the summer. The gulf was a more refreshing temperature when we were there and more fun to swim in anyway.

The beach - We knew the beach would have a lot of shells, since Sanibel is known for that. The shells are fun to look at but not comfortable to walk on, so we brought our water shoes and were glad we did. This beach doesn't have a wide expanse of the sugar white sand like some other beaches in Florida. However, it is great for building all kinds of sand castles and sculptures that people decorated with shells. The water stays fairly shallow and there are sand bars - you can go out quite a ways and still stand up. This part of Sanibel Island basically faces south, so you don't get the awesome beach sunsets like on other FL west coast beaches.Lots of folks go to the Mucky Duck tavern on Captiva Island to watch the sunset, since it's on the beach and faces west. Be prepared for big crowds there if you try to go near sunset time.

Wildlife - Every day we saw white egrets walking along the water's edge and it was funny to watch them follow people around (people fishing give them fish). We saw dolphins swimming offshore a couple of times. There are also large blackbirds on the beach that mind their own business until you leave food unattended in your beach bag while you're swimming - I left an apple core in my bag and saw these birds going through my stuff trying to get at the apple core!

Fun things to do - Sanibel has paved bike paths that go all over the island. We rented bikes at Sanibel Siesta for 4 hours one day and rode all over the island (except the wildlife preserve). It's an easy ride out to the lighthouse. My husband likes to walk several miles each morning and loved walking all over on the bike paths. Awesome there are no hills! A major highlight of the trip was the Sanibel Thriller boat ride - a great way to learn about the area and see lots of dolphins up close, jumping and playing in the boat's wake - awesome! (see separate review)

The Holiday Inn pool and bar next door closed at 9PM each night (so the lights don't confuse the baby sea turtles), so we didn't have any noise problems. If you don't like to carry your own chairs from your condo to the beach, you can always sit in the Holiday Inn's lounge chairs -
there were always lots of empty ones when we were there.

We didn't get to tour the wildlife preserve on this trip - we'll save that for next time.

Room Tip: There are very few units that are right on the beach, maybe four units are directly on the beach. If you want one of those, book early - call directly if you don't see it on Expedia, etc.

Working on our 6th consecutive visit to Sanibel Siesta. Every visit is a joy. Laid back and no hassles. Could not ask for more! The grounds are always maintained at a high level. Outstanding place for families. Located on the beach and centrally located to what Sanibel has to offer. There are no surprises with any charges incurred. The units are always clean and the appliances are well maintained. The pool is adequate for the size of the facility. Parking is very convenient to the proximity of the units.

We loved our rental and the VERY personable and helpful office staff. We rented unit 606 which is a 2 bdrm 2 bath unit on the 2nd floor. It also came with a 1 car garage which was equipped with 2 beach chairs, 2 folding loungers and a beach umbrella with sand auger. The pool area was nice, well maintained and had plenty of loungers for sunning. It was however a little on the small side. The unit we had was nicely furnished but starting to become a little worn. We had three t.v.'s ..located in the living area and the others in the bedrooms. They were a little on the small side. We loved having the fully stocked kitchen available, pots/pans/dishes/utensils/glassware, etc, and cooked several meals. The screened lanai was large, but narrow and providing and nice place to sit and read or enjoy a meal al fresco.

Room Tip: A very nice option available on the site allows you to actually see photos of the units.

We love it here at Sanibel Siesta. Our condo is very comfy and updated. Kids love the pool and private beach. It feels like a home away from home. And Sanibel Island...simply the best. Laid back, non-touristy. All shops and restaurants are local, yocal places. This is our family's favorite vacation.
