Because of the high heat and humidity, by husband and I elected to drive through the refuge. As always, we were not disappointed. We were able to easy pull-over when wildlife beckoned a closer look. The price is great, staff well-informed and the gift shop well stocked.

We visited on June 15, 2014 If you are into the outdoors, this is definitely worth the trip! Saw a large variety of birds and fish as well as horseshoe crabs and small snakes. No alligators were seeing but we did enjoy overlooking the Mangrove. Is about 4 miles and you are given a map when you pay the $5 fee per car. if you like fishing take all your gears since fishing is permitted.

If you are into the outdoors, this is definitely worth the trip! The mangrove overlook is really cool and there are hundreds of crabs in the trees! Saw a large variety of birds and fish as well as horseshoe crabs. A few raccoons were wandering around too. Did not see any alligators however, but we didn't do a lot of the trails.

We went right before sunset and literally saw about 5 birds (night herons/ ibis/ egrets) and a few crabs. No-see-ums were out in force.

The tour guide/Naturalist was very good and informative. We only saw a few birds, some crabs, and a little shark swimming in the bay. No alligators or dolphins, or manatees. A little tame for my taste. If you want to spend an hour learning about mangrove trees, this is definitely for you!
