The Sanibel Moorings is a great place to stay. From the moment you pull into the parking lot you feel at ease. The grounds are beautiful, The unit we had was fantastic. The office staff is friendly and helpful. The pool areas are nice.

From any unit you are a very short walk to a wonderful beach - The Moorings provide beach umbrellas and chairs that you can bring to the beach. They have kayaks that can be used in the river across the street from the main buildings - it was so enjoyable that we did this several times during our stay.

We had one small issue with a key to the unit so I walked to the office who called maintenance and said they would meet me at the unit - by the time I got back to the unit the maintenance person was already there and problem solved in just couple of minutes.

We would definitely stay here again if we ever find ourselves back in Sanibel.

Go ahead and book yourselves a condo at Sanibel - I don't think you will regret it.

Room Tip: If you do not get an oceanfront unit try to get an "inside" unit so your lanai doesn't...

We had stayed at this resort last year and thought it was worth a repeat. We booked the same oceanfront 2 bedroom unit (1112) since it was well located and had all the ammenties in the condo that anyone could need. The only thing we found that the kitchen didn't have was a soup ladle and a lemon zester, so that is pretty good. We did our fare share of cooking as we spent the whole day at the beach. By the time dinner time came around we didn't feel like getting cleaned up and dressed to go out so we made several meals in the condo. We BBQ'd a couple nights so the guys went down to the area near the office where there were 3 fairly new Weber grills.

In the hall closet you have access to many items to use during your stay including a cooler, tennis balls, fishing rod, shell net and swim noodles to name only a few.

Since our last visit the TVs in the living room and 1 bedroom seem to have been updated. The cable channel selection was excellent. DVD players were also available if you wanted to rent a movie from the office. If I remember correctly it was $2 for a children's movie and $4 for others. They even rented Play Station 2 for about $5 a day. The movie selection was quite up to date as well which was awesome. In addition our condo had a great selection of books which the readers in our group enjoyed. We contributed a couple to the collection that we didn't want to tote home. For any serious shellers there was a book on Florida shells and a poster in the hall to help identify your finds.

The grounds of this resort are very nice and are actually a botanical garden. One night we took a stroll around the resort and the majority of flowers, trees and shrubs are identified. Quite educational. We even noticed a few small pots of basil and parsley near our condo. There was no sign saying not to touch so if you needed a pinch of this or that I would imagine you could help yourself.

With a beach that wonderful right there we did not use the pool but did go by and take a look. It was clean and a decent size. On the information sheet we received we noticed that they did have adult only swimming hours which was a nice option. Also there were bicycles to rent right on property which many guests were taking advantage of. There were bikes of every size to fit anyones needs. With all the bike trails on the island this is a definite convenience having this right on site.

Complimentary wireless internet is also available in each unit and no password is required. It was very fast and we were very happy as we needed to keep in touch with our offices on a daily basis. I didn't try it but you could probably get a signal on your beach chair!

My first negative comment does have to do with the umbrellas and chairs. On some days there were newer decent umbrellas available and on others ones that definitely needed some TLC. Luckily my husband is very handy and fixed a few of them so they would work properly. I know they take a lot of wear and tear but maybe they should be maintained a little more often. The chair choice was either a plastic stacking chair or a plastic lounger with no padding. Not the most comfortable. If offered I wouldn't mind renting a nice cushy lounge chair pad to be more comfortable, especially if you are there for the whole day.

The last negative was shared to me by the other couple that went with us. We slept in the room with the 2 twin beds and the mattresses were very comfortable. They were in the master with the king bed and by the end of the week they both complained about their backs. Maybe it is time to get a new mattress in 1112?

To end on a positive note everyone we encountered at the resort were very friendly and helpful. We would go back in a heartbeat as we do think it is a great location, good value for money, and a relaxing oasis.

Room Tip: For a little extra having a view out to the ocean is so worth it!!!!

We arrived to the island of Sanibel, late Saturday afternoon with no idea where to stay. The Chamber of Commerce gave us a list of available options of where there was availability for 4 days. This was one the properties. We were a party of three and opted for a 2 bedroom. We were absolutely delighted with the place, quiet clean, well appointed kitchen, close to a great beach. We had a gulf view from the balcony and we could hear the waves crashing all night. This place has an amazing botanical garden and wherever you walked you caught the waft of gardenias.
Yes - the pool is small but we spend no time in this area and opted to live on the beach. We would certainly come back and hoped that we could stay in the same unit.

Room Tip: It was fairly quiet when we came so noise was not an issue, I would suggest trying to get a gulf vie...

We are a family of four (kids are 15 and 12) and recently stayed at a 2 bedroom condo at Sanibel Moorings. The property is really nice -- pretty, clean and very well run. Our unit was terrific -- exactly what we needed with 2 bedrooms, 2 baths, a nice kitchen, large living room and two screened in balcony's. Our unit was right near the pool and i was a little concerned that it would get too loud at night but the pool cleared out completely at 9 pm, as required, which was nice. The clientele was mostly families with younger kids although everyone seemed to have control of their kids and it was suprisingly nice and quiet at night. Overall we had a very nice time, but we have two significant critiques -- first, the pool(s) on the property are way too small for the amount of units on the facility. We've stayed at much smaller properties on sanibel that had significantly larger pools. It was kind of a bummer as we really couldn't relax by the pool during the day -- even the main pool was tiny and it was just too packed. Second, and this really got under our skin a bit, the beach chair situation there is terrible. They only have about 15-20 lounge chairs available for the guests (we counted) yet the facility must hold a couple hundred people. It is virtually impossible to get one unless you get up at the crack of dawn and cover them with your belongings for when you return at a decent hour (something the facility discourages although everyone does it because they know they won't get a lounge chair if they don't). Not to mention, the lounge chairs are heavy, clunky and really not meant to be dragged back and forth from the beach -- I actually think they are meant to have cushions on them although none were available. We just felt that if you're a beach vacation property and you know people are traveling from all of the country to stay at your facility and lie on the beach, you should have plenty of beach chairs available that can reasonably be carried back and forth from the beach. Putting just a few out there for scores of people is not good form and it's not something people vacationing at a beach property should have to worry about.

Thank you for choosing Sanibel Moorings Resort as your vacation destination. I appreciate your comments about our property and of course, your disappointment with our beach chairs.

We realize that the current beach lounge chairs are cumbersome and uncomfortable. We had ordered a significant quantity of chairs at the start of our "season" and were discouraged to say the least, with the breakage that we experienced with them.

I assure you that when you return to our property, you will find plenty of comfortable beach lounge chairs for ALL of our guests to use and enjoy.

Visited many times and have yet to be disappointed. Quiet end of Gulf Drive and down from all the Periwinkle traffic. We stayed on the beach side. Have previously stayed on the canal side and that's perfectly fine. We like the relaxed feeling and easy access to the beach. The architecture, unlike Clearwater or Naples, is very low profile. Sanibel zoning is quite restrictive. Good thing too. The bridge toll keeps a lot of people out. Everything is handled professionally and the unit we rented was well maintained and had a nice view. We've rented houses further north on the top of Sanibel and on Captiva. Sanibel Moorings is the best value and site for the money.

It has never disappointed us over the years as we have returned sometimes with the entire family of five or with friends or just three of us as on this trip. No matter which unit we stayed in there were always positive aspects. I'm not going to repeat some of the excellent descriptions that others have given which would be redundant. We started coming to Sanibel Moorings 27 years ago when my son was born.
Currently, I am overlooking the ocean from my second floor screened in balcony. The grounds and flowers are all kept up immaculately. It feels like a tropical paradise with hibiscus flowers and palm trees. After traveling to many foreign islands it is always a pleasure to have this special island in the U.S.A. with all of the amenities of home.
Our two bedroom unit has three televisions, a dvd player and a vcr. We called about a problem with one of the t.v.'s and 10 minutes later, an engineer came to repair it. Great service and efficiency. The decor is fresh and updated. Over the years Sanibel Moorings has made a continuous effort to update and maintain the entire property including individual units. The two bathrooms are newly remodeled and large.
Nothing can beat this wonderful beach steps from door. It stretches for miles and you can walk, shell or enjoy the scenery. There are no extra charges for things here as you find at many resorts.
I would have preferred a larger pool but I can forgo that with all the other things there are to offer.
Note: You need to provide your own beach towels or you can rent them in the office. You do need to set up your own beach chairs and umbrellas but they are provided free of charge. You need to exchange your towels daily for fresh ones.

Room Tip: Rooms near the pool are noisy. Rooms near the ocean are more expensive. You need to cross the stre...

There was a different feel about staying on the far eastern part of Sanibel Island. Rather than being in the middle of the activity and crowded sections of the beach, we stayed at the Sanibel Moorings which is west of the lighthouse at the eastern tip of the island. While I'm confident there are other condos that are more luxurious, I have to say that the grounds are immaculate and supersede any that I saw along my walks of the beach. The unit we stayed in was clean and had all the amenities we needed to stay for a week, cook in, and enjoy the screened in patio with a view of the beach. The 'resort' provides umbrellas and plastic lounge chairs for beach use (some of the chairs were broken). Laundry services, towel exchange, garden tour, shell info workshop, bike rentals and more are available. The swimming pool is smaller than other resorts, but my in-laws reported that the water temperature was absolutely perfect and it wasn't over chlorinated. There were a lot of children at the pool every day, however they did offer an 'Adult Hour' from 11-12 and 3-4 and the children promptly left for those periods of time. Be aware that Sanibel Moorings is split - units on the south side of the road are approximately 100 yards from the beach and units on the north side of the road which have canal views and boat dock access. The buildings are groups of 4 units (2 stories high) offering more privacy and less noise because of few shared walls. Being on the eastern part of the island meant we were 15-30 minutes closer to Ft. Myers when we headed in for Spring Training Games. If you plan to leave the island often I would highly recommend staying on the eastern part, closer to the bridge. Sanibel Moorings is a great option for someone who really wants to enjoy a lush setting, have a relaxing experience, and feel like you live there.

Room Tip: Choose a 2nd floor unit for a little relief from the noise of people walking by during the day. The...
