This was our 4th trip to Sanibel and our first stay at the Sanibel Inn. We splurged for an oceanfront room. Here is what you get for $300 a night:
- A fabulous view of the ocean. So wonderful - great for coffee in the morning, and a glass of wine in the evening.
- Bicycles and beach chairs on a beautiful beach - we took full advantage of both!
- A really nice pool and a pleasant tiki bar.
- The location is very convenient for bicycling to restaurants.

Here is what you don't get for your money:
- A kitchenette. No. There is a micowave and a small fridge. There are no utensils or kitchen supplies. You are limited to 2 Keurig coffee cups each day. Coffee and water glasses are paper / plastic.
- You do not get luxury. The rooms are adequate, but a bit dated and a bit dark.

We had a great stay. The beach is lovely. Sanibel has so much to offer. But we find the shelling is better further west, and I think there are better deals out there.

I must also give a mixed review, and echo a number of other reviewers. Rooms (we saw two, as there were no 2-queen rooms available the first night for the three of us, and we had to stay in a king plus aerobed) were nicely appointed, spotlessly clean, and cleaned well each day. Beds and linens are first-rate. Screened porch a lovely place to sit morning, evening, or when you need a break from the sun. Sturdy chairs and umbrellas provided free of charge, but you must queue up for them in high season, and it can take up to an hour of standing around on the beach if you are not out there waiting for the sweet-but-overworked guy who singlehandedly runs the umbrella/chair set-up, towel sign-out, bike sign-out AND kayak sign-out. Why they don't have two people handling the morning rush, I do not understand. I tipped each handsomely at the beginning of my stay, but it did not give me any advantage in the morning chair line. (Democracy is a good thing, I guess.) The pool is not particularly attractive--in fact, the entire exterior and grounds could use a big updating (only the registration office has been modernized), although the jasmine planting around the Jasmine building were a treat. We intentionally chose a resort with a tiki bar and restaurant--tried both, and returned to neither--'nuff said. There are pluses. The location is unbeatable, the free bikes are great, as is the free daily delivery to your door of the NYT. All personnel, from check-in to bartender, were friendly and helpful. On balance, though, while the place was "nice enough", it did not feel like a good value for the $350 per night (on average--rate varied daily) we paid, and we will stay elsewhere next time.

We loved our stay at The Sanibel Inn! The room was very clean and comfortable. The screened in porch was lovely for our morning coffee before going out to the beach each day. Chaise lounge chairs, beach towels and umbrellas were available for the beach and pool. The pool and tiki bar were very nice; food was good and pool facilities were very clean and well managed; nothing terribly fancy but very well run and very clean. Staff was very courteous and helpful.
We will definitely return!

Room Tip: Can't imagine a bad room. They all face the gulf!

We stayed at this resort for 7 nights during high season in a second floor room in the Jasmine building and were very pleased. The staff was friendly and very attentive. The resort fees included free use of beach chairs, towels and umbrellas; free bike and kayak usage; tennis courts; pool with a poolside bar; NY Times Newspaper; and a screened balcony overlooking the beach. Really enjoyed the beach views and our morning beach walks to the lighthouse (approx. a 3 mile roundtrip walk).
TIP 1: There are no traffic lights on the island and traffic gets very heavy. Use the back roads to your beach destination (West/Middle/East Gulf Drive).
TIP 2: Remember to tell the tiki bar and Sea Star Café staff that you are staying at the resort for a 10% discount on charges.

Room Tip: Request a second floor beachfront room for the best beach views.

Loved the Sanibel Inn. We stayed for a week and had maybe our best vacation ever. Anything you want is here - beautiful beach with chairs, towels and umbrellas, nice pool with a poolside bar, free bike usage, free kayak usage, fully equipped rooms and a nice, rustic location with easy access. We'll be back!

Room Tip: We had a second floor gulf view room. Every room has a screened porch, but go for the second floor...

I stayed at this resort in August with my husband and two little ones. They had a summer special online and the price was hard to beat! We were very excited as Sanibel is one place you really don't have to worry too much about a wavy surf, and the children would love being able to enter the water that feels almost as warm as a bath! First, though, we had to get situated. We got a first floor room, supposedly overlooking the beach. There was too much brush and foliage to see! While the room wasn't as clean as I would have liked and there were papers and garbage littering the walkway and stairs to the room, things got really bad when our niece "witnessed" a "palmetto bug" run out from the closet under the wall to our next door neighbors room! Amid alot tears, we marched to the office and were told that we would be moved the next morning! We were very fortunate because, to our surprise, we were placed into a condo unit! While the room dilemma was solved, I would not let the kids go into the pool as the sidewalls appeared to have some tinge of green on them. Overall, I was not satisfied with the cleanliness of the resort and have not returned.

We spent 5 nights in the Lantana building on this property that has a total of 7 buildings. Parking, landscaping, and facilities were great. Breakfast in their restaurant was extra, but food and service were very good. Restaurants in town are very close by car, and also walkable or bikeable. Room was clean and well equipped. Our only complaint is that if you put up the Privacy sign while at breakfast or at any time for that matter, your room may not be cleaned at all that day. Apparently housekeeping only checks once and leaves the property early afternoon. Also, although bikes are included, we we told that we could only have them 1/2 day, the reason being that they did not want to run out of bikes for others who only needed 2-3 hours. This made it necessary to rent elsewhere if you plan a longish ride to Captiva, or want to stop for shopping and/or lunch.
As others have noted, the road traffic becomes heavy during rush hour morning and evening, with residents/workers driving to/from employment. Best to avoid these times or stay on biker/walker trails.

Room Tip: Be careful if you use the Privacy Please sign as you may not get housekeeping. Track down housekeepe...
