“Close to beach, great on-site restaurant, excellent customer service. Would come again!”
Reviewed 10 October 2009

I went on an end of summer trip with my 10 year old, and this was our first time in Sanibel Island. While the hotel is very close to the beach, it is not as close to anything else. We did walk to the nearest convenience store and to rent bikes, about a 10-15 minute walk. I would suggest either renting a car for larger parties, but biking it was a fun thing to do.

The hotel is average (clean, not too many frills, but that is ok for our needs) but the service was excellent - they even helped me return the bike when we got caught in a storm and had to leave very early the next morning. Our stay was only 3 nights, so we ate at the restaurant for our entire stay - the food selection was good, and the atmosphere was nice. We only visited the pool once in the evening. Free internet connection, which is always a plus! We visited the many shell stores and the shell museum during our short stay. Lots of shells to pick on the beach. DO bring insect repellent - the island does not use pesticide, and you will get bitten by gnats on the beach or mosquitos.

All in all, a great experience (other than the many many insect bites!) and we will come again.

Couldn't agree more with the previous post. Just got back 2 days ago. For the price and location this Holiday Inn cannot be beat. The lobby was nicely done, the rooms were modern and fresh looking. The gentlemen and ladies manning the front desk were always very helpful. They make fresh coffee in the lobby every 1/2 hour, which was a nice touch. The housekeeping staff was excellent and prompt with all special requests. Tennis courts were in good shape. Grounds were well maintained. Pool was slightly small but there were plenty of lounge chairs . The beach was right in back of the hotel--found tons of shells. 4 bottle nose dolphins swam off the beach in clear view!! Didn't eat at the restaurant , Courtney's, because of previous "iffy" reviews.
If we find ourselves in Sanibel again I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again!

Stayed a week in August with 2 acult children. We were really pleased with our decision to stay at the Holiday Inn. Best location. Extremely well maintained. Island flair. Bright colors lush tropical landscaping, Great Staff, Clean rooms, in general a great place to stay. We could heartily recommend this facility.

The only reason I chose this hotel was because expedia was having a sale, so I wasn't expecting much. When we pulled into the parking lot we were pleasantly surprised by what we saw. The grounds were beautiful and the buildings had a nice island feel. The rooms were great and clean. The bathroom was a little small, but the bath tub was big. The rooms were litterally only steps from the beach and the hotel provided beach chairs.

Overall nice hotel. Really, no frills, pretty standard room and accommodations, but very clean and comfortable. The pool is nice but not big enough if there are families with lots of kids. :) Nice layout at the pool, with multiple places to sit and relax. Beach is excellent. As others have mentioned, yes, Sanibel has a ton of seashells, making the sand stiff and hard to walk on with lots of broken shells. Beach is perfect for collecting unique shells and for sunbathing--nice lounge chairs. Excellent place to walk along beach and soak up the scenery. Bar near the pool is open all the time although a little pricy--recommend bringing your own cooler--you can bring it out to the beach as well. Also recommend bringing your own beach towels--the hotel provides "beach towels" but they are about as big as a "hand towel" :)
The Island of Sanibel is very unique and beautiful. Most of the land has been preserved, therefore you won't see the high-rise hotels/resorts like most islands. It's very easy to get around and the people are friendly. We did, however, have a difficult time deciding where to eat. We did go to "Island Pizza", in Sanibel, which was very good. We also ate at "Doc Ford's" Rum Bar & Grille--excellent atmosphere and great food-reasonably priced--on the outskirts, going towards Captiva. We did also try to go to "Gramma Dot's" although they were closed for the month--has a great relocation by the water--recommend trying it for us!
We definitely recommend driving into/over-to Captiva Island! There's an excellent place called "McCarthy's Marina" that offers Dolphin Cruises and various other boat trips. We took the 1.5 hr Dolphin Cruise--everyday at 4PM. It was superb! We saw roughly 15-20 dolphins (there's a local coupon book you can find at "Jerry's" grocery store that offers deals for local restaurants/businesses--there's one for McCarthy's--2 for the price of 1--hint, hint, although only $25 per adult). Excellent time with a great tour guide and captain! We also ate at "The Green Flash" on Capitva -- excellent menu--avg. price is $25 per person--great fish/seafood--well worth it. The view is amazing, overlooks the water--we took excellent pictures! We also recommend traveling to Alison Hagerup Beach Park, northern most point/beach on Captiva. Try to get there just at sunset--magnificant beach and an incredible view of the ocean...very romantic.
We highly recommend staying on Sanibel Island--it does cost $6 to cross the cassway over to the island, therefore, you won't want to go back to Ft. Myers until you're ready to leave. The Holiday Inn definitely provides you with the location and amenities you need while you're there--a comfortable place to sleep and great beach/pool to relax and enjoy the climate. If you're simply looking for room with standard accommodations, no frills with a quie, comfortable room, this is your place!

You can read my previous review posted about a year ago. We loved it then and we loved it even more this year. There is a restaurant and tiki bar that looked very nice, but we did not use either. There is also a very nice pool that looks very well kept up, but we are always drawn to the ocean. This is where we spent most of our time. The rooms are not fancy, but we have absolutely no complaints. The rooms are decorated in a nice tropical theme that was very relaxing. They were roomy enough for us and very, very clean. The grounds all around the hotel are beautiful and they even have swinging hammocks. It is a very short walk down a path to the beach. There are shells a plenty all over the beach. They even rent out bikes for $3 per hour, which we loved doing in the morning before it got too hot. The shopping on the island is fun, visiting all the little shops.
I have saved the best for last. The customer service was OUTSTANDING!!! Everyone we saw or spoke with was so helpful and nice.I can't say enough good about everyone we met. A big shout out to Lisa at the front desk who made us feel like family. We hated to leave and can't wait to visit once again......
