A friend and I decided to getaway for a girl's long weekend and stayed at Waterside Inn on Sanibel. It was fabulous!! When we arrived, very friendly staff got us all checked in and even let us in our room early. Our room was bright and clean! I LOVED the spacious, clean and updated bathroom! We had a ref., microwave and coffee pot in our room. In fact, we loved our room so much that we got food to go from two wonderful restaurants within walking distance and ate in our room two nights. On Friday, the owners had a fantastic Sunset Party. When we checked in, we were told that they have this party on Friday nights so we decided to check it out. Delicious hors d'oeuvres and wine/beer. Not just cheese and crackers either, it was our dinner! Everyone was so lovely, friendly and accommodating. I have stayed many places on Sanibel and have now found my new "home away from home" at Waterside Inn. A lot of the people we met at the Sunset Cocktail Party had been coming there for years. The beach was awesome! They have the best beach area, too! It is very wide with no dropoffs and you can see both the sunrise and the sunset. The shelling was great! They just know how to treat you here! We had a late flight and check out time was 11:00. They encouraged us to stick around the property, use the pool, the beach, etc. and then let us use a little cottage to shower and change in to get ready for our flight home. I want to say "Thank You!" to the Owners and Staff at Waterside Inn for making out stay so wonderful! They made us feel like family and we will definitely be heading back to Waterside Inn in the not too distant future! We stayed in the Pineapple Lodge and had a great view of the gorgeous beach and gulf from our balcony.

We decided to go on a spontaneuous trip to visit Florida's west coast. After stopping at a couple other islands, we decided to stay on Sanibel Island. On our way, we called the Waterside Inn to check their availability and rates. Considering it is was peak season, the price of a guest room was quite reasonable. When we checked in, the gentlemen at the front desk was really nice and accomodating. The room itself had an initial "musty" odor, but considering it is right on the beach, it was not unexpected or a turn off. We arrived just in time to catch the sunset which is priceless! After grabbing a bite to eat and a bottle of wine at the local grocery store Bailey's, we enjoyed our evening on the beach lawn chairs, underneath the stars, and listening to the waves. It was really peaceful and quiet. Overall, we had a great experience. We will definitely stay here again when we return to Sanibel!

We recently stayed at West Wind with a large family group. In our 2-bedroom unit it was just 2 parents and 2 (young!) kids. It was great to have access to a fully equipped kitchen, room to spread out and unwind, cable TV for when needed a 20-minute break from the kids (Sprout on demand!), separate bedrooms and bathrooms...

Add to this 2 pools (1 heated), easy beach access, restaurants and shops 5 minutes away, in-room laundry, and beautiful sunsets, and you're in business!

From West Wind we easily accessed a variety of wildlife preserves, the Shell Museum, and more. They hosted a wine-and-cheese type event for guests one night on the beach. There were dogs staying with other guests on the property but all friendly. There was never late-night noise. There were buckets and spades for the kids in the unit.

Every unit in the Breakers seems to have a balcony which is very nice for evenings, although the view was of the lawn/pool (and just beyond, the road), not the beach. We didn't mind as we were searching for an apartment-type unit where we could relax with small kids.

The only complaint I can think of is that the parking spaces are REALLY tight, like really super duper close together, and when you're in a rental, the last thing you want is someone accidentally dinging your door when they get out. That and the beach towels you can pick up at the office (gratis) are kind of small, so next time I think I'd pack my own.

Be advised they take out trash and change towels daily (I think) but they don't clean the units when you

Room Tip: We stayed in the Breakers unit; our balcony view was of the lawn and pool but we could see the road...

Thank you for your recent review of Waterside Inn. We noticed that you had our name wrong and put West Wind instead of Waterside Inn, but no worries. We’re so glad you enjoyed your stay with us in the Breakers West 2 bedroom 2 bath unit. It’s great for families and big gatherings and nice to have the big space to spread out in. I noticed that you attended our “Sunset Party” that we provide every Friday in season. It’s a chance for all our guests to mingle while we provide you with appetizers and drinks. It’s been a tradition at Waterside Inn for the past 12 years and we love the fellowship it provides. After a bit of food and drink, everyone wanders out to the beach for the beautiful sunset and a chance to see the “Green Flash”. We hope to see you back soon!

Trip Advisor often presents a conundrum. Ten people say a spot is terrific, and then one reviewer says its awful. This was the case for our recent stay (1/12-1/19/13) A recent review of our particular unit (Apricot) was not good, noisy, bugs, etc.

So you need to throw several grains of salt. The place is not the Ritz or the Marriott, and that was not what we wanted. We wanted Old Florida, a self contained cottage, a small and friendly place and we got all of that. The room was clean, and cleaned daily, restocked towels, etc.
When we went in the pool, the maintenance man asked how the temperature was. (BTW,perfect) Noise or bugs not an issue. Great shower, great beach access, bikes right there if you needed them, and they were very helpful printing out our boarding passes when we left. We had A+ weather, and no issues. What is better than that?

What a pleasant review of the Apricot Cottage and Waterside Inn on the Beach. We are so glad we exceeded your expectations and hope we can do it again sometime soon. It’s always nice to know that our Guests “get” what leisure tropical accommodations are all about. Who needs glitz when you have a fabulous shell beach, the warm peaceful waters from the Gulf of Mexico, lots of beautiful tropical vegetation, and a great hotel with colorful cottages to relax at? Don’t worry….Be happy…and let us show you what you’ve been missing with the big chain accommodations!

This was a little tough to review as there were so many nice things about the place but a few comfort issues that brought the overall score down. We were in Lime 101 which is one of the beach cottages but I'm not sure if it was worth the extra price for the view. It was certainly easily accessible to the beach but it's not a sweeping view of the water - not a complaint - just information. Every room here is a very short walk to the beach. There was a small attached screened patio/entryway to leave shoes and wet bathing suits/towels.

The cottage itself was a cute little throwback to yesteryear and had a nice beachy feel but with that came the only complaints I would have. First - it had a very odd odor that we were able to alleviate somewhat by opening the windows. Also, the floors were quite sandy. I know it's hard to keep up with that but other places we've stayed manage it pretty well - at least upon arrival. I might suggest leaving a swiffer to help guests keep the floors clean. Overall though, there were many positive aspects of the property. It looks as though the kitchen is quite new - and the shower as well.

Some positive notes: very quiet and serene. Awesome sunsets. Beach was un-crowded and very clean. The "throw-back" notion was actually fun and very comfortable. A few minor things, here and there, would increase our rating significantly.

Like I said, this was tough to review and I don't want to appear negative - just want to provide some feedback.

My wife and I spent a week here for my 61st birthday in Mango cottage. I traveled on business for 35 years and have stayed in the best and the worst. This is not your standard "chain"hotel and it is not what they are going for. This is old time Florida cottages surrounded by lush dense palm trees steps from the beautiful shelling beaches. The walk to the cottage reminded me of several scenes from "Key Largo" one of our favorite movies. From the "old time"outside look of the cottage I was concerned about the inside. No worry, Brand new kitchen with everything you need to live there. Bathrooms and been completely revamped with new tub and shower enclosures. Bathroom was small but added touches like a big medicine cabinet on the wall saved a lot of clutter on the small sink.Bedding and pillows were clean and new. I wish they had a tv in the bedroom though.Pool was small but clean and wonderful. Want a towel? How many sir? Oh no need to sign anything or give your room number just leave them in your room or outside, we will find them. Try that at the Marriott. Grounds were very clean and well kept Staff was great and John the handy man helped us out with locked luggage with the key inside. The maid service was so ad hoc it was funny. It was either way to much ( as in ten bath towels one day)or way too little( two wash cloths the second day). Everthing was corrected immedially though. We gave up on shampoos and went to the store. My only advice to the owners would be to clean and lube the windows.Otherwise this place is really paradise if your looking for a nice quiet laid back place to watch sunrise and sunsets and shell and walk and spend a romantic week in heaven. It's the Caribbean right here in the good old USA without the crime and bums.

First,I would like to say that my negative review mainly had to do with the cottage we were in. The property itself is in a very nice place and I think other cottages might be better.

However, we were in cottage 111. It is pretty basic, what was expected, but it was also not that clean and had a bit of a ran down feeling to it. The worst thing was that next to the bedroom was the installation for the swimming pool which included a heat pump that was running 24/24. So in the dead of night it would generate a constant low, annoying hum. It's like sleeping with your head next to a fridge. After the second sleepless night, I went to the reception to complain, but got an explanation that it was set to 80 and that was that. However when we used the pool it was very warm, at least 90; I guess they were trying to make the pool boil;)
Anyway, after three nights I was happy to leave, which is a pity for such a place.
I'm sure the other cottages don't have this problem as the grounds are very silent at night.

I appreciate you taking the time to write your review of the Apricot Cottage. I’m sorry to hear that you were unhappy with the noise from the cottage. I was surprised to hear that you thought it was “run down” since it was recently redecorated 2 months ago. If you read the previous reviews of this cottage, there is nothing but praise as to how it looks. There has been one complaint about the noise from the pool motors and we are in the process of trying to solve that issue so that other guests won’t have the same problem as you. Once again, I appreciate your input and hopefully because of your suggestions, we can better serve you next time.
