“The Botanical Gardens on Sanibel Island”
Reviewed 25 November 2013

This was a delightful couple of hours on Sanibel. We had seen it on a local ad which wasn't exactly clear about these beautiful grounds being part of the Moorings Resort grounds. We persevered and found our way there. It was well worth the effort. Anita the Gardener with a Master Gardener's Degree was so informative and enjoyable to listen to. You could feel her passion for making the gardens work. You could also take a self guided tour but then you would miss the fun of interacting with people from all over the country and world. Look it up when you're there and put it on your list of activities.

“Loved...loved....loved the botanical garden tour!!”
Reviewed 7 November 2013

As a New Englander who is accustomed to a relatively short growing season, tropicals have always fascinated me. Viewing the vast collection of tropical flowers and trees throughout this garden was immensely satisfying! Stunning colors abound wherever you turn and Anita, the head gardener, is every bit as entertaining and enthusiastic as she is informative. Do yourself a favor and treat yourself to a couple hours in a true garden paradise, you'll be glad you did.

“Beautifully maintained gardens”
Reviewed 31 October 2013

I visit Sanibel 2-3 times a year and I don't know how I missed this gem of a place! It certainly is a surprise to have botanical gardens tucked in within a resort. For the nominal fee of $5, my husband and I toured the gardens and were astonished at the plants, trees and bushes well-maintained in a beautiful setting. When you arrive, you are given a map with numbers and a corresponding legend so you can identify the specimens. There were a lot of impressive specimens. I absolutely loved the stapelias. Amazing! The only disappointment was the hibiscus gardens. I was really looking forward to them but they didn't look well grown. They were very bedraggled. Everything else was fabulous.

It takes at least an hour to walk through the gardens. More if you take many pictures. I would suggest you try to go early in the morning when the temperatures are cooler if you are visiting during the hotter seasons.

PlantMomto3 - Wow, thank you for your wonderful review. We love our Stapelias also! Yes, our Hibiscus are now recovering from a very rainy summer, and are just this week popping back with gorgeous blooms.
