Tarpon Tale was a perfect place to stay on Sanibel. Dawn (owner) was friendly more than helpful with any request. Several nights there was wine and homebaked goods out in the lobby area. Our unit, Seashell 1, was quiet and had a small kitchenette, sofa, bed and bathroom. The bathroom was on the small side, but was clean and sufficient. We loved having access to bicycles throughout our stay. The island is flat and very bike friendly. The beach is an easy walk to the end of the block and all the beach equipment is also complimentary! We would definitely stay here again! It was also very convenient to walk across the street to a restaurant, ice cream shop and clothing and gift shop. Next door is a real estate business and another sandwich shop. Overall, a great value and great place to stay.

We planned to spend most of our time outside in Ding Darling and other nature areas so we did not need luxury accommodations. Tarpon Tale Inn turned out to be just what we wanted and more. Old Florida atmosphere, very reasonable prices. We went car free and used the Inn's free bikes to get around. (It is about 15 minutes to the nearest supermarket, Jerry's, and 40 minutes to Ding Darling.) The owners were really kind to us, supplying bike lights for our early morning and nighttime rides. We had three days in a unit with a small kitchenette (functional), and one day in a smaller unit with just a fridge and microwave. Both had small patios where it was comfortable to have a beer or a cup of tea. Both were quiet and comfortable. Sanibel is not a dining destination. The Lighthouse across the street is OK/reasonable (good Caesar salad) and next door, Pinocchio's has good ice cream and lines out the door. Melissa's, about 15 minutes away had high quality creative cuisine, but riding home at night on a bicycle after martinis and wine was a challenge. Don't miss the Botanical garden nearby. Canoe under the mangroves dark woven shade. Dance upon the sunny shore....

Room Tip: You can hear and watch the birds in the back units.

This was our first visit to Sanibel, which to our surprise was quite a bit "busier" than we had anticipated. Our own fault tho, as we stayed during spring break just before Easter. As a result, we were happy to be located at Tarpon Tale, on the quieter eastern end of the island, walking distance from the beach and the lighthouse. We stayed in the Sunset unit, which was perfect for our needs....clean, convenient, and comfortable. Gotta love the outdoor hot tub! (Especially great because it was not a warm week). We had a problem running the dvd player, but the owner was very quick to respond and got it up and running for us. Some excellent freebies were bikes, beach equipment, hot tub, computer with printer, and to top it off....lemon squares and wine in the lobby room!

This was our second stay at Tarpon Tale. Last year we had the Seashell I unit, which we found to be well-maintained and nicely equipped. This year we decided we'd like more space and chose the Tropical Bird suite, which was a bit of a disappointment by comparison. Although the unit was very spacious, clean, and functional, it appears to need some "refreshing." I'm referring to a leaky shower door, cracks in the ceiling, a wicker rocker that needs a coat of spray paint, a well-worn bath rug, and very blank walls where pictures must have hung at one time. Outdoor sitting areas could be more inviting by adding more decks (like the one at Seashells I) and updating furniture. Looking beyond these mostly cosmetic issues, the positives for this place are the very friendly owners, the free beach equipment provided, the fantastic location (close to the beach, a couple of restaurants, and possibly the best ice cream on the planet). Before booking, you might want to talk to the owners for guidance in selecting a unit.

We had the smallest room at Tarpon Tale Inn but didn't mind thanks to the outdoor table and swing. The room itself was perfectly pleasant with a decent bathroom and closet area, a comfortable bed, and just enough room for a coffee pot and TV. We loved being able to walk to the beach -- the owners provide beach chairs, umbrellas, and even wagons. We also borrowed the free bikes to explore. And, as others have said, we took good advantage of being right across the street from the best ice cream and one of the nicest restaurants on the island.

Room Tip: The bigger rooms have nicely appointed kitchens if you plan to eat in!

Spent 3 days in January 2013. Walked and road bikes (free to guests) to 2 of the local beaches. Newly refurbished with tile and bathroom fixtures. Near a restaurant, ice cream parlor and another NY deli. Dawn the owner was most accomodating. When she learned I had sensitivuty to cleaning products she went out a got us fragrance-free laundry soap. Dawn turned the hot tub on for us when we arrived and had a glass of wine waiting for us at night. Dawn even encouraged us to use the free bikes after we had checked out. Free internet access 24/7 was a great plus. The owner set us up with a wagon that we took in our truck to Bowman Beach and it was the best suggestion she made

The Tarpon Tale is worth the price, has the best 0wner we have ever experienced and the location cannot be beat !

Room Tip: Check out the Seashell and Lighthouse rooms. if you like quiet try either of the Seashell rooms as...

My niece and I spent three nights at the Tarpon Tale Inn. This is a great accomodation in a nice, quiet location. I've stayed on the "other" side of the island several times and while that is excellent, I prefer the nice and quiet side. We had an excellent time strolling down Buttonwood Lane to the ocean side of the beach. On the way to the beach we watched two ospreys on Buttonwood for the longest time as they sat outside of their nest. The Inn has complimentary bikes that were an excellent way to see the island including Ding Darling. I would highly recommend the Tarpon Tale in for your next visit to Sanibel.
