“Quiet, peaceful, and perfect!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 August 2007

We stayed at the Tarpon Tale Inn just this past weekend to celebrate my 30th birthday. We only spent one night but it was perfect! Upon check in there was a note on a board for us with directions to our cabin. No one was in the office. We went to the cabin and it was very "beachy" and cute. We were in the Seashell #2 - there are bicycles you can borrow to ride to the beach and an ice cream shop across the street and also a small deli with delicious breakfast sandwiches. The Inn is in a nice location away from traffic and close to the Lighthouse beach. It was everything we needed for a night away. When I tried to check out - there wasn't anyone in the office again so I just left the key in the room. Our entire stay we never saw anyone that worked there - but then again we didn't really need anything. We joked that it was run by ghosts! This was a perfect little place to relax. Definitely go to Bowman Beach near Captiva Island, and try to go during the off season where prices are cheaper and the traffic isn't bad. Remember too that you have to pay a $6 toll to get to Sanibel from Ft. Myers and to park at the beaches - it's $2/hour. But worth it for a weekend -perfect for a couple! We'll be back!

I was researching a safe comfortable place to end a visit to see family on Marco Island and came upon this gem. They had a cancellation and graciously offered me the "Bird House" room. I was given a quick tour by my sweet host (Dawn) and settled in to what has been an unforgetable mini-me vacation. The room was adorable, so clean and cute with every amenity I could have hoped for. My mini courtyard was lined with crushed white sea shells. Although on the main street it was so convenient to a deli, restaurant and ocean on both sides. I helped myself to a beach chair and towel and immediately hit the best beach at the end of the side street. After a shower and nap drove the islands and went to view the sunset at Mucky Duck bar on Captiva. I then settled in with a good book and slept like a baby on my Q. bed with a 12 " pillowtop. The 2nd day I took a mini cruise out of the Sanibel Marina then biked on the wonderful neighborhood bike trails. I ended up on the other side where I found a spectacular other beach one block down Buttonwood Ln. In the office which was open 24 hrs. I helped took advantage of the wine and checked e-mails on the computer.

I tried to fannagle a few extra days in my new found paradise..but faced reality and flew home.....a completely renewed person.

As past reviews have stated Tarpon Tale Inn is a lovely place to stay. The owners were friendly, yet unobtrusive and the inn is charming and immaculate. The breakfast basket each morning was just right. The owners are trusting and very helpful. It is a very small and quiet place, perfect for relaxing. It's in Old Sanibel, which is a quiet part of the island. We really enjoyed having the Lighthouse restaurant, Pinnochio's ice cream, East End Deli, Rosie's Deli and market and a few quaint stores right across the street/ next door to us. The beach is just a short walk away. Sanibel is a wonderful island and we will definitely stay at the Tarpon Tale Inn if we visit Sanibel again.

We just returned from 6 days at the Tarpon Tale. Everything about our stay was lovely- the room was spotless, the inn keepers were kind and hospitable without being bossy or intrusive, and the location perfect. I highlyt reccomend the inn and look forward to returning next winter.
The Tarpon is steps from the beach, a great icecream parlor and the fishing piers. It is quiet and low key. The efficiency comes stocked with everything you would need to cook and did I mention it was SPOTLESS!

My husband and I visited Tarpon Tale for our one year anniversary, and it was the perfect spot to do so. The inn was so cozy and welcoming at all times of the day. The room was nice and cozy with a tv., dvd player and a fridge for our snacks. Every morning we had a basket of fruit, juices, and muffins left for us. We usually went out for breakfast and kept the basket of goodies for snacks. The video library in the office was great, along with the computer free to all guests. There were also drinks and fruit available in the office if we needed any (including beer one afternoon.) There were also beach chairs and towels available for guests. We truly felt at home and never felt like we were intruding. The island felt like a place time forgot, in a good way. We rode our complimentary bikes all over the island, even right onto the beach. It really made us feel like kids again! I can't wait to go back to Sanibel Island with kids! It is, however a great place to go even without kids. Very, very relaxing and fun vacation!

A nice place, but there are some cosmetic problems. I stayed in the Island Sunset Room- the bedroom and bath were nicely decorated and clean. The kitchen/ sitting area needed a bit of work- the blinds were broken, there was a large stain on the loveseat slipcover, the refrigerator had surface damage, the hot tub took 24 hours to warm up, that sort of thing. These are actually tiny issues-don't expect something perfect.

On the plus side, there are bikes for the patrons to use free of charge, as well as chairs and umbrellas for the beach, which is in walking distance. There's also a great area to clean your shells. The owners are extremely nice and will go out of their way for you. The location is across the street from an ice cream parlor, deli and restaurant, and the daily in room breakfast basket is great as well. There is computer access, but with no printer. Overall, I would recommend the property with the undestanding that it is older and does need some minor maintenance work.

The Tarpon Tale Inn gives you all the benefits of a small family owned inn. We loved our stay here! We stayed in the Sanibel Sea Shell room and the whole experience was very pleasant from the minute we pulled in until we left. We were unfortunate to have stayed right after the red tide happened, so we didn't actually get much beach time in as a result. However, we did manage to do a little shelling. The best thing though is that there was still plenty to do on the island without the beach. Sanibel is truely gorgeous, and it was wonderful to have hosts at the Tarpon Tale who could recommend activities and provided us with bikes to use and a lovely breakfast basket each morning. The inn is in a great location that is close to many things, but also quiet and laid back. The rooms are a little older by the looks of it, but very well maintained and very clean. The landscaping on their grounds was gorgeous! We just loved everything about this inn and our stay there. We will definitely be back, probably in the spring when we can get out on the beach!
