I decided to share our experience, because it is extremely difficult to figure out the quality of the condos on Sanibel. We rented at Shorewood because we wanted a 3 bedroom unit in a smaller complex, so the pool and beach front would not be as busy. That was certainly true of this complex -- additionally, it had a great location in terms of the shops, etc. The two teens with us were able to cruise to the shops and ice cream stores and get some time away from the adults. However, I would say the Shorewood complex itself is very tired. There is mold on the white exterior trim and at some point, they must have replaced the exterior light fixtures and railings, but they forgot to touch up the paint. It creates an atmosphere of "Florida Tired".
We stayed in unit 3A and it is in need of a total overhaul. The wireless internet really didn't work…the signal strength was two bars unless you put your computer or phone directly over the modem, in which case, you could mostly achieve 4 bar strength. This should have been disclosed, as my husband and I both had work we needed to get done. We went to the library and the local coffee shop because the condo signal was not strong enough to reliably download documents, etc. Additionally, my daughter and her friend tried to rent a movie from ITunes…again, signal strength was not strong enough to accomodate the download, even though we placed the computer directly over the strongest signal in the condo. The stereo does not have a jack for your IPod, not that it mattered that much, since the internet signal was so weak, it would have been tough to access your music from the cloud, anyway. The height of the TV was too low and it the cable package that came with it wasn't very good.
While the bathrooms have been updated, there is mold in the grout (cleaning crew said it couldn't be eliminated). The entire unit looks like it hasn't been deep cleaned in years. The ceiling fans and baseboards are crusted with dirt, there are mold spots on the chairs in the dining room and rooftop deck, the floor on the rooftop deck is crumbling and there is an old, broken lounge chair that was thrown onto the roof and left there. Additionally, although there is a locked owners closet, the additional storage areas (the entry hall closet, the master bath closet, the utility room closet, the pantry in the kitchen, the laundry room closet, the cupboards in the living room) are filled with the owners stuff….we had to call housekeeping to get them to organize the kitchen so we could have a cupboard to put the food we had purchased. Needless to say, we were very disappointed and would not consider returning.
