Parking can be a tough find but it's worth it. You must pay $2 per hour to park. Beautiful uncrowded beach. Plenty of room and clean sand and water with plenty of shells. We walked up and down the shore for a few hours and loved it. The water was warm with gentle waves. No beach umbrellas or chairs for rent so bring your own. When we finally did relax on our towels in the sand we noticed tiny ants but they never bit us. There are restrooms available adjacent to the parking area. The park has a few picnic tables and barbeque available. Wonderful beach day.

We visited after lunch and as a word of warning parking is limited and we were very lucky to get a spot. Clean washrooms and showers and lots of trash bins available. The beach was un crowded and FULL of shells so the kids had a Greta time. The water was calm and safe with (on the day we went) no current. We also had the most amazing experience of 2 dolphin pods coming close to us in the water. Some reviewers complain about the smell but it is a natural beach full of shells - the smell is of the sea and of nature. It's is not bad just what you would expect.

Came over from east Fort Lauderdale with my wife for our anniversary and what a disappointment the beaches are over here. Don't let the "island" part of captiva and sanibel fool you. There are terrible smelling shells all over the beach with bugs flying around and red ants in the sand. The hotel has been the best part so far (Marriott Sanibel Resort). Go to the beaches in east Florida!

Our family came to Gulfside to mainly go shelling and enjoy the beach. It certainly is a spot for shelling, with thousands of shells on the sand. The beach smelled a bit, but that wasn't that big of a problem. It was clean (for a beach), and the water was very nice. The only reason we will not come to Sanibel again is because the insane traffic you must surpass to get out of Sanibel Island at around 4-6 PM. If you're willing to put up with that, consider going to Gulfside, especially if you are planning on shelling.

We built our trip around arriving at Sanibel Island - the Seashell capital. Being avid collectors we were excited start our search. the beach is large and clean, there are clean public washrooms in the parking lots. They do charge for parking but its not outrageous. There are thousands of shells on the beach here - although not the size we were hoping for but what we didnt expect, was how many live creatures we would see. We did not keep anything but every shell we picked up in the water on the sand bars , had an occupant. We found live sand dollars, star fish, sea urchins and shells. It was experience unlike any other I have had. To be able to see the sea life in its alive form was incredible. Everything we picked up we put back. We came home with very few small unihabited shells but the experience here was the best!
