“Sanibels best kept secert”
Reviewed 10 July 2014

We recently stayed here for our parents anniversary, as they travel here often. This was our first time, and it is definitely not the last. What I loved most was that it is a smaller resort with only about a dozen cabin/rooms and its no over crowded with a ton of people. The location is in the middle of a residential area and quite often you could be the only one on the beach. I don't think there was ever a time when there were more than a dozen people out there. Breakfast was provided every morning and consisted of muffins, bagels, English muffins, and other baked goods; along with fresh fruit. There was also coffee and tea available.

We stayed in one of the one bedroom apartments with our 2 kids (ages 3 & 5) and it was more then big enough. There was a living room with a love seat and a pull out couch that the kids slept on, a kitchenette(fridge, oven/stove, microwave, sink, etc), and a full bath room. My parents had one of the standard rooms, and it was pretty much the size of a standard hotel room, but with a kitchenette and full bathroom.

The landscaping of the resort in it self was amazing, they had orchids growing on the palm trees, and overall it was just a very tropical feel. There is ample seating everywhere which gives you an opportunity to sit, relax, and take in the abundance of beauty that is surrounding you.

Needless to say, we will absolutely be coming back. Which says a lot as we are the type of travelers who like to try different places, but this place was just so perfect we have to go back.

If you like to fish, there is a lot of fish right off shore. We tried our hand at fly fishing for snook, but no luck. We did see a lot of experience people reeling them in often. My nephew caught a small cat fish using a normal rod set up.

I highly, highly recommend it.

Room Tip: There really isn't a bad location, as its small so even the "furthest" rooms from the...

This was our first stay at the Blue Dolphin Cottages at Sanibel Island, Florida and we were not disappointed. We had been to Sanibel before for a day trip but always wanted to return. If you want a getaway place away from the normal beach clutter, this is the perfect location. You are there for the quiet and proximity to the beach. I took a picture of the beach (See attached picture) and I was the only one there! Now that's seclusion. We spent four nights at the Blue Dolphin and used the efficient kitchenette for lunch and two dinners. A small continental breakfast is served with coffee and tea. For dinner on the other evenings, we drove two miles to the nearby "Doc Ford's" restaurant for delicious seafood. As mentioned, the beach is right there and perfect for total relaxation and shelling (See attached picture). The Blue Dolphin is relaxing and those who were staying at the nearby cottages were quite friendly. The staff was accommodating and met our needs in every way. Yes, you may be paying more to stay than a normal cottage experience, but once again consider the location. Our room was clean and everything met our needs. I would highly recommend the Blue Dolphin to those individuals who would like to avoid the larger cities and their beaches. The Blue Dolphin is indeed a gem!

Room Tip: Ask for Cottage 8 which is shared with Cottage 8 A. It is larger and you still get a view of the be...

I have been wanting to visit Sanibel Island for several years to check out the sea shells on the beach. I was drawn to the Blue Dolphin cottages because of the photos and peaceful atmosphere. I was not disappointed. We stayed in cottage #2 which is a one bedroom apartment. The apartment was clean and had a well equipped kitchen. The staff was very pleasant and helpful, as well as all of the other guests staying there. We (myself, daughter and granddaughter) stayed for four days in mid May 2014, and we didn't want to leave. It was a wonderful experience. We hope to visit again,

This was my second stay at Blue Dolphin. Cottage #6 is a one room efficiency with a king bed. Not very big, rather pricey, but, aaaaaaah the view. Coming from Illinois in the middle of winter it is worth every penny! Very quiet property. Peaceful and beautiful! Already reserved for next year. See ya on the beach!

If you want a fancy place with all the amenities, look elsewhere. But, if you want a place right on the beach with spacious comfortable accommodations and a friendly staff and fellow visitors, this is the place. It used to be a fish camp in the 60's so the buildings are pretty basic. However, the interiors have all been updated with comfortable furnishings. The path between the buildings is very nicely landscaped and the ocean breezes keep it all vey comfortable. The beach umbrellas and chairs are free (although you need to take them to the beach yourself and return them each evening). Bikes are free to take and each morning coffee and pastries are laid out on a table on the pathway to the beach. The location is not within walking distance to any shops or restaurants since It sits between multi million dollar beach houses in a quiet area of the island. The beach is very uncrowded an you can walk for miles (we did). One recommendation is to take something to cover your eyes if you don't want to be woken-up by the sun coming in the windows. the blinds are translucent and you can't really darken the bedroom. We would go back in a heartbeat!

Room Tip: The beachfront rooms can view the ocean but all rooms are just yards from the beach

Our first trip to Sanibel and we landed in the perfect place to stay! The location, literally steps away from the beach and seashells, is perfect. Also close to the wildlife refuge. Room was comfortable with a well equipped kitchen that saved us $$ as we ate most meals right there. The breakfast buffet was nice and they supplied many extras such as nets for shelling, bikes, umbrellas, beach chairs, grilling facility, and more. Staff was most pleasant and helpful. Perfect for rest and relaxation! We'll be going back.

My wife and I have been coming to Blue Dolphin Cottages for ten years every March to relax and enjoy the beach. The beachfront at Blue Dolphin must be one of the least crowded on Sanibel. We have made some wonderful friends among the folks who regularly return to this special place at the same time we do each year. The last three years our daughter and our now 7 year- old granddaughter have joined us for a week or so. They love the Blue Dolphin as much as we do, and are already talking about the fun things they will do during their next visit. We have been extending our stay every year, and are now booked for a full month in 2015.
