Great biking trail from South Sarasota to Venice. I will give it 5 stars when it is extended further north and when there is better parking options along the trail. The trail being carved out of an old railroad track, there is no shade and you can quickly get very hot. You can stop at Oscar Sherrer park to cool off.
One problem is that the trail is shared by bicycles, joggers and walkers. As a walker, I have found some bicyclist pass aggressively close to you and can be quite scary. The same is true of skaters.

If you love to bike, this is a great trail! Riders of all ages and experience levels will do well on this trail. There are many shaded rest stops with bike racks and benches. Riders can cycle as long or as little as they wish.Hydrate before you start and bring water!

Locals told me the most challenging part would be the bridge over Highway 41. (You can always walk it.) They also said, many folks ride the Legacy Trail from Sarasota to Venice and then load their bikes on the public bus for the return trip.

I rode not quite to Venice and then back to Sarasota in a few hours. (I was on my mom's one speed.) My trip highlights included seeing cattle grazing, the Oscar Scherer State Park, and stopping on a bridge over a bay. While resting on the bridge, a local rider told me she often bikes there to watch for manatees in the winter. I haven't made it to the Venice Train Depot and beyond yet, but that is on my have-fun list.

You can ride from Sarasota connect and go all the way to Sharkey' s in Venice. Have a bit of lunch there or at Captain Eddies on the way home. Good safe ride!

How no idea this was here. We're a huge proponent of Rails to Trails an we accidentally came upon this and cycled from Venice to Sarasota. It was absolutely a wonderful day.

Legacy Trail is AWESOME! You can ride (walk, run, blade) to all kinds of places for miles and miles!! The scenery around Venice is gorgeous and ever-changing along the trail. People of all fitness levels use the trail, which is great! I wish more of us could use it to get to work, shopping, etc. I use it just for fun to get to the Venice post office, beach, downtown Farmer's Market, and Sunday morning breakfast.
