“Good place for our first week-long family vacation”
Reviewed 28 December 2012 via mobile

The four of us took our first airplane trip to visit the grandparents. We decided on this hotel because the room had a separate sitting area and sleeping area. Grant it, the sleeping area was a bit smaller than we liked with the A/C unit extremely close to one of the beds, but with two double beds instead of queens, that was to be expected. The sitting area has a desk, chair, bar sink, mini fridge, mini microwave and coffee maker. We only really used the fridge and the desk. The room has lots of outlets for recharging devices and two flat-panel TVs, but the channel selection could really have used a few more kid choices. Cartoon Network and Nickelodeon wasn't enough. Nick Jr. and/or Disney Jr. would have been good additions. Thankfully, we weren't in the room too much even though the weather was a bit cooler than desired (not the hotel’s fault).

The pool and hot tub are small. The pool is supposed to be heated, but they finished repairs the day before and then forgot to turn it back on so it was cold. Our daughter was the only one to venture in. We did sit in the hot tub, which worked just fine.

The daily complimentary breakfast was very good; eggs, sausage, bagels, english muffins, oatmeal, waffles, cereal, fruit muffins, juice. Lots of choices. We tried just about everything and only really didn't like the OJ. The staff was exceptional especially after we had several issues that had to be addressed with our room on the first day. Overall, we liked the hotel and would stay there again although next time we may need a larger room and I'm not sure if they have one that would be suitable.

This hotel appears to be recently upgraded and, overall, was comfortable and convenient. In many ways, for those of you who frequently stay at the Springhill Suites brand, this hotel is quite representative of their newly upgraded properties.

The suite was large, comfortably furnished, and spotlessly clean. The foyer had a wet bar, ample sized work desk with convenient outlets and wired interent, and a sofa and coffee table. The bedroom had a large, comfortable king bed, and the bathroom was spotlessly clean as well. Climate control worked just fine, and the internet servic worked flawlessly and delivered good speeds.

There's a self-serve breakfast in the morning, although I did not personally take advantage of it. Parking is convenient right outside the front door. The Sarasota / Bradenton airport is just across the street, and there's easy access to shopping (east on University Parkway), downtown Sarasota (via US-41 or US-301), and reasonable access to Siesta Key and I-75. Some decent dining choices are nearby (such as Barnacle Bill's and El Pescador) or just a short drive away along University Parkway.

Overall, a nice place to stay, although it can be a bit pricey, depending on what dates are chosen.

The hotel is doing a little fixing up. But it sure did not bother us. The room was quiet, pool was nice, One of the better breakfasts that we have had in our travels. Everywhere has the waffel and banana, but the lady in charge of this area took the time to make sure the hot stuff was hot.. Nice touch. If ever back here we will stay here again.

As of today, 9/16/2012, the website for this Marriott Springhill Suites states: "Newly renovated guest suites! We've been busy this summer.... come see our newly 'inspired' design!" What they don't tell you is that the entire lobby and much of the first floor is under construction, leaving us disappointed. The "newly inspired design" is nowhere to be seen. A meeting room serves as temporary quarters for the morning breakfast. As for the "newly renovated guest suites" -- that also is not the whole story. Some aspects of the room may have been renovated, a coat of paint here and some new furniture there, but overall looks like a typical "older-style" Springhill Suites, "newly renovated" with mismatched furniture, a very small sink area and a hard to adjust air conditioning system. Not at all what we expected.

Things likely will be much better in the future but this Springhill Suites probably should have been closed during this renovation phase.

I was told by a friend that this was a 'tired' hotel. Glad to see when i checked in that they're improving. The lobby may still be a hard hat area, but my room at least was updated and very comfortable.

Juanita was very pleasant during check in, the fitness room was much better suited than other Marriott properties being renovated I've stayed in.

I'll definitely keep this hotel on my list next time I'm in the area.

I just visited this property August 23, 2012 and spent a couple of nights there. Currently the property is under construction inside the building. Hotel companies sometimes forget to mention this little item when you book the property. They have signs up and expect to be done sometime in October 2012 I believe. As far as the rooms are concerned the room was very clean and appeared to have been recently refurnished. There were a few maintenance issues, toilet not flushing properly, towel holder in restroom coming off the wall not to mention the room stewart trying to get inside the room at 930am to clean up while I was in the shower. Also, for the very 1st time since in a long time you could hear the occupants on the top floor above me walking and moving about the room. This was not pleasant since they were very noisy at night. The hotel is also by the airport, walking distance, so add that to every other noise in the hotel and this turns out to be a not so pleasant stay.Pool was dirty and could have definitely used daily cleaning and leaf skimming, coffee in the pots in the front lobby held just barely warm coffee and this was twice since I tried to drink it two days in a row. I will definitely skip this property on my next visit to Sarasota.

Room Tip: Ask for the top floor if you have to stay here

The hotel was going through a renovation to look and feel more "Springhill-Like". Not a big deal because they were able to assign a room away from the floors/sections being worked on. Overall nothing major to report.

One thing I DIDN'T understand however was the reasoning behind the piece of plastic attached to the AC unit (see attached image). It directs airflow directly on to the bed and it feels like you are sleeping in a wind tunnel if you sleep on the side of the bed closet to the AC. I had to build a pillow-wall every night to be remotely comfortable.
