The hotel and the staff were very nice but our "view of the bay" room was partially blocked by other buildings. The hotel does offer beach opportunities bit it's a few miles away and only accessable by shuttle-bus. The restaurant is great.

Room Tip: Suites are better than rooms.

Dear dennis t,

Thank you for your review. I was pleased to see you enjoyed our signature restaurant, level of cleanliness and service.

Your disappointment with the location of our Beach Club located 3 miles from the Resort on Lido Key that can be accessed by the shuttles we provide and transportation method of your choice is duly noted. Please accept my sincerest apology for any inconvenience this may have caused for you.

We value your feedback and hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back.

Just returned from three nights at the Ritz Carlton in Sarasota- everyone was very friendly and very good at remembering names, but service was very slow. I felt like I was in the Caribbean. One night the concierge did not call and make a reservation he told me he would- when we got to the restaurant no reservation.
Also beach is very small and disappointing-(although pool and the entire beach club is beautiful) because it has members other than Ritz residents when we went on a Sunday we could not find a place to sit- I felt like we were packed in so close I wanted to leave.

While we were pleased with the hotel, there were several things that disappointed us. The bathroom had a tub-shower combo, never the most desirable arrangement. And the room service prices were astronomical: $9 (plus tax, tip and service charge) for toast! (I wonder if George V charges any more than that.) You may not want to pay extra for ocean view if you can't be guaranteed a high floor. Our view did indeed include the ocean, but it was mostly porte-cochere roof, driveway, and nearby buildings.

That said, valets were quick enough and the room was comfy.

The Ritz-Carlton Sarasota isn’t perfect, but it’s a well-managed property with beautiful grounds and views. The facilities are excellent, the front desk and concierge staff are friendly and attentive, and the guest rooms are roomy and comfortable although perhaps showing their age and not without problems.

My room on a high floor was tastefully furnished and had a stunning view of the marina from the private balcony. It offered an in-room safe, flat-panel TV, good lighting, a comfortable bed, a desk, a strong (if expensive) wi-fi signal, and adequate closet and drawer space. The housekeeping service was thorough and efficient, and the complimentary bottled water was replaced every day.

The bathroom featured a good, simple shower / bathtub, a separate toilet compartment, and instant hot water in the sink at all hours. Amenities included robes (no slippers), shower cap, ample soap and towels, mouthwash, hair dryer, and a vanity mirror,

The conference rooms were exceptional, with excellent acoustics and audio-visual systems. All of our dining at the hotel consisted of group buffets or served meals, all of which were outstanding.

On the downside, there were a few annoyances in my room. Chief among them was the climate control system, which provided air-conditioning but no heat. No matter how high I set the thermostat during the abnormally frigid February nights of my visit, only cold air came out of the blower. At least in my room, no heat was available.

Another problem was the small in-room safe. Its keypad consisted of soft and mushy buttons that were often totally unresponsive to even the most forceful finger-press, making it quite difficult to lock or reopen the apparatus. I finally solved that problem by using a strong thrust with the pointed end of a closed ball-point pen to press each soft button.

Those minor annoyances aside, I was quite happy with my several days at The Ritz-Carlton Sarasota. It was a pleasant place to stay, well-located, and an exceptional venue for a business conference.

Room Tip: There are some good views from the higher floors

I spent three days there for a business conference. A hotel looks great – both taking the first spot and further impression into account. I love fresh flowers and beautiful things (like an old style phone). The hotel is divided in two parts: one in the city center and another at the sea side (with a nice restaurant). There is a free shuttle bus service offered to move easily between those two places. It is hard to find elements that are not ok. The best of all is a great service: smiling faces, easy to talk to. Definitely – if possible, will come back there again. Congratuations to the team and thank you for a nice stay. 

Room Tip: The Bay Side view is beautiful.

If you're traveling to Sarasota or Longboat Key and want a luxury hotel with easy access to restaurants and beaches, the Ritz Carlton is hands down your best option...here's why.

1. The Ritz is a short walk to Sarasota's vibrant Main Street restaurants AND the city's plethora of cultural activities (plays, orchestra, etc).
2. The Ritz is also a short drive to the restaurants/shops at St. Armands Circle.
3. If you're a runner or walker, it's an excellent location to begin a run/walk over the bridge to the key islands.
2. The Ritz has a beautiful beach club on Lido Key, just a 10 minute drive away. Yes, the hotel is not on the beach and this is a negative. However it does have pretty bay views available and there are no hotels on the beach that are remotely as nice as the Ritz. The pool/restaurant/common areas of the Longboat Beach Club are not in the same league. If you want luxury, drive the ten minutes to the Ritz beach club where you will have a beautiful pool, excellent restaurant, charming beach bar, and upscale locker room facilities/bathrooms at your fingertips. In all reality, isn't it better to drive during the day, get the luxury experience, then be settled at night where you can walk to town and then return to a luxury room?
3. Ritz service was excellent, had no issues in my entire stay -- and I'm picky on service!
4. Rooms are nice. They're not amazing, but they're very nice. If you can book through American Express and get a few bonus amenities (upgrade, resort credit, free wi-fi), it helps the sting of the price on popular weekends. Be sure to ask for a water view.
4. The bar/restaurant at the Ritz overlooks a charming harbor with glimpses of the bay. It was a lovely restaurant, modern and sophisticated, with nice views and a lively vibe.

Overall, we had a fun weekend at the Ritz Sarasota and felt 100% confident that we made the correct accommodation choice. One last warning, this hotel fills up early for holiday weekends. Book in advance.

Sarasota travel tips:
1. Don't even think about missing the Ringling Museum and mansion. The museum rivals those in Europe and NYC in both architecture and its permanent collection (I know it sounds unbelievable, but it's true). The house is beautiful, almost understated for the wealth involved, and truly special. These are treasures that once you see, you will realize they cannot be missed. The Ringling compound is next to the airport. The museum is free on Mondays.
2. If you want a little liveliness for your evening, stick to downtown Sarasota. Main street has excellent restaurants.
3. The best beaches are on Siesta Key, but they're also the most crowded. Longboat, which is very sedate, has nice beaches but it's hard to find public access. Just park at the Longboat Key Club and go in through the hotel. If you're at the Ritz, best option is still their beach club.
4. If you golf on Longboat, go for the Harborview course for better views. The Ritz can help you with this, and other golf options.
5. It's amazing how much the key islands differ. Drive around, explore!

This hotel was very nice, but the luxury was overshadowed by their charging $15 a day for wifi access. I can get free wifi if I buy a $4 cup of coffee at Starbucks, buy from the dollar menu at McDonalds or a stay at a budget hotel. When a luxury hotel charges several hundred dollars a night PLUS adds $15 wifi charge, that is nickel and dime. The property has a swimming pool and health center which I did not use, but no doubt was included in the cost of the room. Management, build wifi access in the cost of the room!
