We are members of this organization. It has a long history of bringing in some nice shows with a professional cast in a cozy environment. Visitors should contact them ahead of time to see what is playing and for ticket availability.

I've seen several productions here over the years and have friends and family who are regular supporters. This theatre/playhouse is an institution in downtown (old) Sarasota, nearby the streets with pineapples in the sidewalks and the antique stores.

From what I gather, there isn't one year-round repertory group here, but they draw their production staff and actors from around the country and stage it to take advantage of this theater. It's a true Americana-style playhouse, with a coffee bar in the lobby and side stairwells. It's fairly small overall.

I just saw Spamalot (Eric Idle's script and originally performed as Monty Python and the Holy Grail). Despite the small stage and theater seating (it was packed, with additional seats placed along the rear row), every seat was a good one in terms of view, and the staging was both creative (like a cow tossed from a castle) to the song and dance on classics such as "Always look at the bright side of life". But that's what there right now (Nov 2013), and something new will come along, and then others. The playhouse has a loyal following, rightly deserved, and has many small and large contributors from the community, on which they rely.

We had the pleasure of attending the cabaret show Prima Donnettes. It was a fun program in a lovely venue. Staff were very helpful, tables were comfortable, prices were reasonable. Look forward to attending more shows there in the future.

The bargain comes with purchase of season tickets. For a little over $100/person, three musical Caberet and four stage plays can be seen. Most performers have national credentials and it shows. Even one show tickets are reasonable and we highly recommend same for visitors.

We loved the Prima Donnettes show at the Florida Studio Theatre caberet; the female performers were very good, and we really enjoyed the songs from the 50's and the 60's. My teenage daughter and my mother both enjoyed the show, so it spanned 3 generations! Florida Studio Theatre is a treasure for Sarasota!
