A truly world class orchestra, one of Sarasota's cultural gems. The masterworks series during the winter brings some of the greatest classical music frequently conducted by guest conducters from all over the world. The new music director Anu Tali will make what is great even greater. Don't miss the orchestra during season.

“A much improved orchestra”
Reviewed 29 July 2013

In the 15 years my wife and I have been living in Sarasota, we have attended many concerts offered by the local Florida West Coast Symphony orchestra. Under the guidance of former conductor Leif Bjaland, the orchestra has improved dramatically and the musicians under his guidance before his departure in 2011, were often called upon to perform large scale works by Mahler, Bach Handel, and numerous other composers representative of their times. I am a correspondent for an online company called www.theaudiobeat.com" and would enjoy reviewing classical compositions by the ensemble if only the local orchestra had recorded any works of the classical masters.

“Revolution and Stravinsky were a little off - Sarasota Orchestra”
Reviewed 4 June 2013

We decided to take in the "Revolution" performance of the Sarasota Orchestra which was held at the Sarasota Opera House in Florida. The performance by the guest soloist ( a violinist) was fine but a little over dramatic. We also found the "Rite of Spring" piece written by Stravinsky to be a little too 'off-key'. Not only was it full of discordance but it was also too long. No wonder Stravinsky had to flee from his first performance of this composition. We would not like to experience this event again. We are hopeful that our next visit to the Sarasota orchestra will be more rewarding and less discordant.

“Unbelievable Standard for a small City”
Reviewed 29 May 2013 via mobile

I have been subscribing to the Sarasota Orchestra (formerly the West Coast Florida Symphony) for over 15 years and have gradually watched and enjoyed their progression to what now I truly beleive is as good as any US symphony orchestra outside the Big Five. Having lived in London for my "younger" years and been privileged to attend concerts by Pierre Monteux, Otto Klemperer, Georg Solti and others, I do think i am a fair judge. I hope they announce their new Music Director soon (I have my favorite candidate!)but who ever gets the job will be conducting an excellent ensemble.

“Sarsota's one of the most precious Gem”
Reviewed 29 May 2013

Great Orchestra with extremely talented and well trained classical musicians. What more can I say, most of their shows gets sold out early on. They just need a bigger concert hall to hold more audiences.
