“Poor to mediocre”
Reviewed 2 November 2013

We're spoiled having lived in NYC for most of our lives we know what fine Chinese cuisine is - when done well it is one of the great cuisines of the world. The spicing is impeccable, the veggies not overcooked, not too much oil etc. There are few Chinese restaurants in this area and evidently few people demanding a higher level of cuisine. The hot and sour soup somehow was sweet. It wasn't supposed to be sweet and sour but it was. Not sufficiently acidic either. Had to add vinegar. The Singapore Curry Noodles had almost no curry and almost no flavor. At least it was not too oily. My scallops & veggies in garlic sauce was watery, veggies overcooked, few scallops, little garlic. I asked for it hot hot but they clearly ignored me. Egg roll standard defrosted. Surprisingly limited menu. I wanted and asked for chow fun noodles which is a standard in most restaurants but they said they don't do it here. Friendly staff and service.

“Best Chinese Buffet in Years”
Reviewed 27 September 2013

We scanned 'Trip-advisor' for a Chinese restaurant we had visited many years ago when staying in Sarasota. we found it, but well, the reviews were pretty naff. But we did spot Mrs Chens, which had been given good reviews and was a nice small establishment for a Chinese Buffet. This sounded just right.
When we entered the restaurant we were greeted by the Manager who was very helpful when I explained my nut allergy.
The Buffet was just right. Some places are so big, but the food you find is repetitive, but not here.
Our server together with the Manager made sure that I was aware of any products that contained nuts or possible contamination. The buffet was always kept full and tidy throughout our visit
We liked it so much we were hoping to go again, but ran out of holiday, bum!
I am so glad we 'stumbled' on this place and will certainly go again albeit in a yesr or so as England is a few miles trek.
We did see quite a few folk coming into the restaurant who were probably locals. They were warmly greeted, as we were. Now if the locals keep coming back to a restaurant then you have a very good inkling that is a good one.

“Long Get Away”
Reviewed 23 September 2013

My wife and I do not like Chinese buffet but this place is GREAT, if you do not want the buffet you can order off the menu. The buffet is kept up, none of the food dries out or sits for very long the food taste like it should not all things tasting the same. The variety is very large it even includes dessert and some sushi pieces, always has (2) soups which are great. Avery friendly restaurant with fantastic food and service.

“Horrible”
Reviewed 22 September 2013

This place is terrible. Im not sure why anyone would give this a good review. We went in search of a good Chinese place and stumbled on this buffet. The dining area is out dated at first glace. Secondly, the buffet is small with very limited options. The "sirloin" is doused in nothing but soy sauce, the honey chicken is more of a very hard popcorn chicken with more breading than actual meat. The rice was dry and hard. It was as if they saved their food from the night before. Bland, flavorless, and no meat in the tiny, lousiest excuses for egg rolls you can find. The staff was nice, but they need new cooks and fresher food. Everything was stale or bogged down with salt and soy.

“Always delicious”
Reviewed 16 September 2013

In the world of Chinese buffets, this place is a blue ribbon winner. I've never had better fried dumplings or wontons anywhere. They may not have the hundreds of items other buffets offer, but everything Mrs. Chen's has is absolutely delicious. The owners and waitstaff are always happy and super attentive. We are in town several times throughout the year and Mrs. Chen's is always our first stop!

Their dessert area needs some help, however.
