When downtown, as a local, I will eventually end up near City Grill for a couple of drinks with my friend. Mattison's downtown is one their of several restaurants in the local area and has an open seating under a canopy. If you are looking for a place to bring your significant other this is a good choice for your date nite! The music and crowd will electrify your spirit whether you are 40 or 85 as well as your partner's state of mind when you go home. The menu is traditional Mattison's fare and we have had good food, attentive service at downtown prices. In other words, you will always have an enjoyable time! A word of caution however, during season or special event this place will be packed to the gills as the music and atmosphere says we are here for a good time! If you get there as an early bird you will have a good meal and be entertained. After 6PM it will get busy as most will be there with their friend(s) for a good meal and to dance the nite away. The servers will be pressed to please everyone at a moment notice but the do a great job! For the single crowd over thirty you have a choice of venues as Gators is across the street if the generally younger mix is needed. But at Mattison's if you smile and ask if you can squeez in at the bar to get a couple of drinks people want you to be happy! An observation: Guy's your date wants to at least dance a couple of times just don't sit there. If you are single kibitz (s) that is what this place is has going for itself. Otherwise, uforgetaboutit!

Mattison's Grille is one of those restaurants where ambiance plays a big role. There's a roof, but only one solid wall (there are plastic sheets for keeping out the rain, and many space heaters for when it's chilly). So it's outdoor dining, inside. Lots of plants to cozy it up, nice spacing between tables, great for people watching or a quiet gab, good service, and very tasty food (I highly recommend the Greek Salad which comes with 3 baby lamp chops).

Get there before 5:00, and you'll get half-priced well drinks and (as of February 2012) $5 appetizers, one of which is a large dish of macaroni-and-cheese. Can't beat it. Stay late, or go on the weekend, and you'll get live music.

Hubby and I have gone here many times — including twice for our anniversary in mid-January. We've celebrated accomplishments here, and gone there for solace when we've gotten bad news. It's an all-purpose restaurant which, to our minds, anyway, is "our place" in downtown Sarasota.

Fun atmosphere downtown sarasota. We had a medium quatro pizza. It was delicious and enough for two. Service was slow although they were very busy. A little pricey but the band was very good. Disappointed there was no place to dance.

Nice lunch on a Sunday afternoon. Live music which was not too loud. We were able to converse with no problems. Seating is outside which was pleasent in the month of Fedruary. Wraps were above average, hostess was pleasent. All in all you can't go wrong for a nice outdoor lunch.

bacon and eggs - simple, but easy to mess up! Good service in a pleasant out-door location. Chicken club was also excellent.
