Description: Serving Sarasota for Over 25 years! The Old Salty Dog first opened its door for business in Siesta Key Village back on November 1st 1986. The owners original concept was to take a small popular village beer and hot dog stand and turn it into a casual Restaurant and Pub. They have mixed the best of the Florida Keys and their British heritage to create a fun family environment that is appealing to people from all walks of life. There are now 2 locations and they are patronized not only by their many regular local customers and characters but they also enjoy abundant new and repeat business from all over the United States and from around the World.

giant garage doors open up to a breezy view onto New Pass waterway - can get there by boat. - Fish and chips are our favorite. very unique - fun to take tourists/guests, who are new to the area. Fun on a good-weathered day. outdoor eating.

“Great for after work drinks”
Reviewed 10 October 2008

Would have given it four to five stars for the memories and the atmosphere but thought it may be pushing it a bit when the food and the prizes are taken into account.
Let's be honest, the food, decent though it is, is overpriced for what it is and the drinks are not that cheap either but the view is great and it can't be beaten for convenience if you happen to be working at Mote! It is also one of the few places you can turn up mucky and smelling of fish without attracting attention or being asked to leave which is a plus if you've just spend a long day out on a boat and are just gagging for a cold drink, especially on Fridays you will most likely find that the majority of the clientele is made up by people working for Mote.
The food is bar food and does not pretend to be otherwise, don't go expecting culinary miracles. The vast majority is fried and/or battered but the grilled Mahi sandwich is very nice and the caesar salad is also decent (try it with chargrilled fish). For a more unhealthy treat, I highly recommend the shrimp poppers, red jalapeno peppers stuffed with cream cheese and shrimp deep fried served with a raspberry sauce, mmmm.
Their trademark is the salty dog, a deep fried hot dog which my boyfriend tells me is very nice but by others has been referred to as heart attack on a plate, might be both, it's not my cup of tea but fried food fans may want to try it.
If you're looking to have lunch near Mote and just want a sandwich, I would suggest going to the Bait Shop just down the road, better sandwiches and also a little cheaper as far as I recall.
The view as mentioned before is great, you can watch the sunset over New Pass where you often see dolphins or manatees and a load of pelicans which does make you feel a little more forgiving about the prizes and lack of variety....
