Description: Bob's Train is the best kept secret in Sarasota. Hidden away off the main road we keep our little piece of circus history alive. Come aboard the train for lunch and experience what we're told is the best hamburger in Sarasota!

Visiting Bob’s Train is not about the food, but about the experience. The food is average but Bob’s stories are wonderful. We went for dinner and got that at opening. Since we were also geocaching, Bob came out of the train and hinted as to where we could find them. He also then took us on a tour of all the train and the one he was building (crafting?). There are thousands of photos throughout the four cars, and if he had the time he probably would have explained about each one of them. He talked about trains and the circus. He is somewhat of an historian. And then when another couple came in, he proceeded to joke with us all when he was in the kitchen. Like I said the food was okay, mainly sandwiches and burgers, but the beer was cold!

My husband and I were in the area and since he loves train and I like the circus we knew we had to find this place. It was a little hard to find because you have to go behind the address listed for it to the back but it wad worth it. We both had the fish and for for dessert had rum on the rails. Bob was very approachable and had great stories to tell. The circus pictures and other circus items around the two cars are fantastic. Great place to go and will go again because I really want to try the M.O.O.S.E. burger.

Four of us drove to Sarasota from Winter Haven to have lunch at Bob’s Train which we had talked about for almost a year. We found it quirky but fun, especially after a very large group of ladies left who were there earlier for lunch. Then we had the car almost all to ourselves. After a delicious lunch of tilapia sandwiches, ham reuben, & kielbasa sandwich & drinks, Bob joined us and regaled us with stories of his earlier days on the Yorktown, history of the train & circus tales, and a private tour of the replica engine he is building from scrap metal and lots of interesting odds & ends. There are loads of circus pictures & memorabilia throughout the two train cars. Even though the restaurant is located in a warehouse type parking lot & is a little difficult to find, we found it an interesting experience.

This place is great! Restaurant and circus museum in restored train cars that were used by the traveling Ringling circus. The owner “Bob” is very personable and always has a good story or two to tell, when he is not busy in the kitchen. The location is a bit tricky, so don’t be discouraged when you are trying to find it on a back lot of an industrial park. From Fruitville Rd, turn onto 3rd/School Ave. then take 1st right on an unmarked road, which at anytime you think “this can’t be right “, but it is, so keep straight ahead toward Sarasota fight club, you will see Bob’s train on the left. There really needs to be a larger sign located at Fruitville and another sign pointing you off of 3rd/School Ave. onto this unmarked road, saying “300 ft. Is Bob’s Train Restaurant & Museum”.
Enough about the location, a fun place to visit while in Sarasota!
