“Great location....”
Reviewed 7 January 2014

My hubby and I spent a long weekend there..just trying to relax after the crazy holiday rush. Very good location as you can get over to St Armands and all of the beaches by car or hotel shuttle. The facility is very nice with a heated pool and Jacuzzi. Great service and a Starbucks coffee service at the bar as well. We would defintaley stay again. We had a balcony room overlooking the water...and went to a show right across the way at the Van Wezel. What else could you ask for?? We had it all there! loved it. No it's not the Ritz...but neither was the price.

Room Tip: bayside balcony high floor

Thank you for the review. We do enjoy the location that we have. To your point, we are walking distance to Van Wezel, we offer a complimentary shuttle to and from Lido Beach however, we aren't too far of a drive from SIesta Key Beach either. We hope to see you again soon! Have a wonderful day.

It is difficult to write a review for this hotel. So many things were great, but some were not. We booked a harbor (marina) view with a balcony, and had requested a high floor if available. When we arrived, we were initially assigned one on the lowest floor. I understand that there is no guarantee of availability of any particular room number, but we asked if a high floor was available. After a bit of searching, a room two floors higher was found, but it wasn't ready yet. As we discussed what we would do, housekeeping finished that room, so we were allowed to look at it. The view there was not what we were hoping for, so we asked again if anything higher would be available soon (housekeeping was still cleaning rooms, and we were willing to wait). We were initially told, no, that was all that was available. We stepped away from the desk and discussed upgrading to a better room with a higher view, but the cost of that was more than we were willing to pay. After we came back to the desk (about 2 minutes later), we went to a different desk clerk, and explained that we were hoping for a higher floor. This clerk easily found us one another two floors higher (6th floor). We took that room, and were very happy with the view.

Aside from the initial negotiations about an available room, the front desk staff was very efficient, professional, and courteous.

The maintenance department was also efficient, professional, and courteous. Our safe wouldn't work, and it took several tries for them to fix it. I now know how these safes work. For those who wonder, they are battery operated, which is good in case of a power failure. The front panels (where you punch in the numbers) snap off (with a good deal of force) and on. The batteries (4 AA) are mounted on the back of the panel. They are pretty secure, though. A special hand-held device and cable are needed, as well as a tiny (about 1/8th inch) magnet placed in exactly the right spot. Anyway...

The rooms are on the small side for a modern business or resort hotel. The carpeting looked great, but the furniture and wall trim needed some attention. The bed was very comfortable, though I found the pillows much too soft. Personal preference- you can't please everyone. The ac/heating system was very quiet. Didn't notice it, really.

I agree with several points that mrtwtraveler made. The water in the tiny bathroom is almost undrinbkable. You can smell the sulfur. And you can see light around the entire room door, and aside from being annoying, it is a safety issue in case of fire- smoke can get in, and you can't block it up with towels.

Speaking of towels, the housekeeping was a little off. The hotel policy is to not change towels or linens unless requested to the front desk, or filled out on a card in the room, to be left on the desk. I opted for calling the front desk to ask to have our linens and towels changed. I asked for the linen change because i noticed a few dried blood stains on a top sheet (no, they weren't from me, and they did NOT look like bed bug stains- the pattern and size didn't match what those would be, and the location was not near where anyone would be touching). In any event, we wound up with an additional, huge pile of new towels, and the SAME linens. I didn't bother asking again. The sheets were clean, and a dried up stain not near a person is just a color issue.

Because the bathrooms are so small, the coffee maker lives on a shelf, unplugged. It must be moved and plugged in to use it. The coffee provided was Starbucks Verona. Two Tazo tea bags and two PAPER cups are provided each day. Paper cups. Really? Where am I, Motel 6? We needed more coffee one day, and called down to the front desk. Less than 15 minutes later (I think 15 minutes is their maximum time goal for anything, which is great) new coffee was delivered. It was NOT Starbucks. Instead, it was a generic, undrinkable brand. Neither of us could drink it.

There are two bottles of water provided in each room at $3.00/each (unless you pay the newly instated $15 resort fee). This is outrageous considering how foul the tap water is. The vending machine sells the same water for $2.00/bottle.

They don't stock the rooms with a ton of products- just the few basics- soap, shampoo, conditioner. They were all good quality. You can, however, request almost anything you may have forgotten- toothpaste, mouthwash, and a list of dozens of other things be delivered to your room for free.

The shower was one of the best we've had in any hotel. Be careful, though, the faucet is not marked for cold or hot, and it worked backwards from the way ours at home work, so we each managed to briefly scald ourselves (no damage).

The lobby area is very nice. Large, bright, modern. The restaurant/bar is just off the lobby, and were not particularly inviting.

The pool area is very pretty and well-maintained, as are the manatees that visit the dock jut off the pool. Don't pay to go on a boat to see manatees- just grab the hose and pour fresh water over the dock. They LOVE fresh water.

The breakfast was priced so high ($15 for an omelet), we went across the street to the excellent Mango Cafe instead.

Parking is okay. If you can't get a spot on the street in front, there is a lot in the back, but the walk is further. Valet parking at $22? I don't think so.Overall, considering room size, the bathroom situation, the misstep by housekeeping, and the cheaping out on coffee and water, the hotel felt more like a really excellent Holiday Inn than a Hyatt Regency.

Room Tip: Try for a high floor facing the marina. As in any hotel, try to stay away from the elevators.

Thank you for taking the time to write your review and post it. You bring up some very good takeaways for the hotel to look at and rest assured, that they have already been reviewed and taken into consideration. While we wish you had breakfast with us, the Toasted Mango right down the street does do a good job and it's easy to walk to so thank you for pointing this out. We will continue to exceed expectations and we hope to have you back again soon.

I've never stayed in a Hyatt before believe it or not. I have enjoyed some fabulous accommodations elsewhere. This was a relatively average experience

Room was overall fairly clean. I did notice that the housekeeper must have missed from when the last person had coffee as there were grains and small coffee droplets dried all around the coffee maker. I like to pretend I haven't been only one of hundreds to have slept in this bed, this didn't help.

One thing that irks me is the lack of free wifi. I've stayed at Days Inns off of interstates that offer that! Tacky. Then to boot to be charged for bottles water in the room seems ludicrous. I can enjoy complimentry turndown service, but no complimentry water or wifi.

Next time I might just pony up a little more for the Ritz.

Thank you for your feedback on your stay and I am very sorry for the less than perfectly clean room. We have recently added Starbucks coffee into the room thus we have seen a spike in usage so we should be even more cognizant of the coffee makers in the room. You are not alone when you talk about the lack of complimentary wifi. We have listened and what we have done is we have now included it in our resort fee which includes the in room wifi and many other resort-like activities like kayaking, paddle-boarding and yes, daily waters in the room. We hope that you will give us another chance and come explore the wonderful upgrades that we have added here at the hotel.

Members of my family and I came for a pre-Christmas visit and were delighted with the efficiency, attentiveness and professionalism of the staff. The room I had faced the water and was bright and light, as was the lobby and other sections of this hotel. I thought it had been renovated recently because it was so sleek and looked so fresh; I was surprised to learn it had been refurbished five years ago!
I will recommend this hotel to all my friends.

A series of airport mishaps resulted in us not arriving until nearly midnight, but despite that, Erica at the front desk handled our check in quickly and efficiently. Get a harbor view room if you can, the view from ours was fantastic. The hotel is located in an ideal location for jaunts to St. Armond's Circle, Siesta Key, and numerous other points of interest. Or just stay in, and enjoy the pool, bar, fitness center, and other amenities. I realize that this review is starting to sound a bit like a Hyatt advertisement, so I'll stop here, except to say that the place really did live up to its advertising claims.

Room Tip: Ask for one on the harbor side. The view is great!

We stayed here on points over Christmas for three nights and were kindly moved to a balcony room overlooking the pool - which is a must for enjoying the view. The rooms are nice but showing some wear and the toilet tended to run. The bed was so very comfortable I'd like to know what it was so I could buy a new mattress. . The location is great for walking to restaurant downtown which is very convenient. We will stay here again when in town for the holidays.

Room Tip: You want a south facing room with a balcony

We're here at dinner on 12/26 & the ONLY music that has played the entire day is Christmas music. It's time to move on.
Rooms nice, warm pool nice, very quiet (except for Christmas music). Very clean. Bay view means view of about 10 boatslips & the Ritz Carlton. Seriously, you look put your window and there is the entire span of the Ritz. Wish there was free wi-fi in the rooms. Instead. All the guests are piled in the lobby where it IS free?????

Thank you for taking the time to write your review. The hotel certainly looks at the feedback given by customers like yourself and we will look at the timing of when and where we play seasonal music. We have recently added a few attrations to our hotel like kayaking, family activities, etc and one of the items packaged in with the resort fee is wireless internet in the guestrooms for up to 5 devices. Please let us know what you think of it the next time you stay with us as again, we do look at these reviews frequently.
