“great hotel a short drive from the beach”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 July 2010

The rooms are elegant and stylish, and the bathroom is quite nice. The lobby is gorgeous. Free parking is a big plus. The only complaint I have is that the bed is too soft, but if you like to sink into the bed, you will love it. It was pouring down rain the whole time I stayed here, so I didn't get to see the grounds or check out the marina, or Sarasota for that matter. But I did like everything I saw about the hotel. Wifi in the room costs $10/day.

Be prepared to be approached by a plain-clothes individual that, without greeting you or giving you any kind of explanation, will ask you for your room key. We later found out he is a security guard. We were locked out of our room. The tv remote does not work. We complained at the Front Desk, and were treated with disrespect. My stay was a nightmare..... !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thank you for your recent review. I am very sorry that your experienced problems with our Pool Security. In recent years we have had to implement security around our pool to ensure that our guests can gain access to the pool and enjoy the amenities of the hotel. Being rude to guests is definately not acceptable and I am sorry. As the only AAA 4 diamond hotel in Sarasota we pride ourselves on exceptional service and will use this example as a training opportunity. I sincerely hope you try us again in the future so you can experience the true "Hyatt touch".

I am a self proclaimed hotel snob! The Hyatt Regency Sarasota, came reccomended to us. We always travel down to Siesta Key but have never stayed the night. We finally decided to stay the night. The Hyatt is NOT on a beach, HOWEVER, it is water front with views of the Bay and views of the Marina. All of the beaches; Longboat Key, Lido Key and Siesta Key are ALL a very short drive away. Parking is free, if you self park in the parking lot/garage. It's one of the cloest parking lots, of any resort we've ever stayed at. There is no need for Valet, unless you absolutely don't want to park your own car, as the parking lot, is very close.

When we pulled into the Hyatt, the second we got out of the car, the valet guys were very helpful and nice, helping us pack up our truck onto a cart. While we were packing, he offered up suggestions ... as to where to eat and how to entertain our 5 year old daughter.

We walked into the lobby and immediately were greeted with beautiful views of the Marina right through the window, directly across from us ... very beautiful! I reccomend, if staying in Siesta Key or Sarasota .... to stay during the summer, as that is their "off season" and to stay during the week ... rates are cheaper and the hotel isn't NEARLY as full. We stayed on Tuesday, June 29th and Wednesday night, June 30th. The pool, which is amazing, was never crowded. Ask for a view of the Marina .... being that they weren't full, they gladly gave us whatever we requested ALONG with a free room upgrade to a balcony. We stayed on the 7th floor and enjoyed the view of the Marina AND the pool (as if you have a view of the Marina, you will also have a view of the pool) ...

The best and most inexpensive restaurant we found, was right down the road from the Hyatt. It's called "Cafe Amalfi" ... their Italian food is amazing. So great, that we ate there two days in a row! Their Baklava cheesecake is amazing! Our server, who we had both times was named Eric ... but he said he would be changing to their new location which is next to the Outback. This place is a must to eat at - either location!

We had a huge bathroom, as we were given a handicap room. So our room was larger, than most of the normal rooms. So we never felt like we were trapped on top of each other. The only complaint, that I noticed is the walls are thin. You could hear people moving their balcony chairs, hear people shutting their doors ... but this was nothing that our TV couldn't drown out. We like to sleep with a fan, and the hotel did not have a fan for us to use. We usually use the sound of the AC, but their AC is digital and on the wall. It's VERY quiet. So if you like to sleep with some type of "noise" bring a small fan to plug in at night. If not, you hear everything.

The breakfast buffet was great! Not your usual breakfast buffet ... eggs, bacon, crepes, pastries, stuffed french toast, fresh fruit ... you also get a server who brings and refills your drinks.

The internet is a "tmobile" hot spot ... and it's 9.99 for 24 hours. This is what the Hyatt uses for their Wifi. The staff and managers were so great, that if you have a problem with anything, they will take care of it for you. Their room service was a bit pricey, as you had to pay a 3.00 delivery fee and a 20% gratuity charge. IF you don't care about the extra charges ... then I wouldn't hesitate to order room service, as their food is really great.

We plan on staying at this hotel again! We enjoy it's great location! Anytime we are in the area, we will stay here. There IS a Ritz Carlton, right across the Marina ... but they were more expensive and even had a smaller pool! The Hyatt has it going on, when it comes to their pool! That alone is worth the hotel ... and then the fact that everything else about the Hyatt is great .... makes it a great place to stay at. Make sure to get a Marina view =) The "BAY" view is more of the city ... but the Marina view, shows you some of the bay (between the surrounding condos) and you also have the Marina AND the city ... which makes for beautiful night-time shots. I will include a few pictures from my stay.

My husband and I stay at this hotel at least once each summer we love it so much. However, this year we had a few issues. As we checked in at the front desk, we noted the lounge couches were in desperate need of a good cleaning. I was suprised by this because I've always been impressed with the overall cleanliness of this hotel in particular. We had requested a "high floor" but were given a third floor room over the first couple days of our stay. On stepping out the elevator, we immediately noticed a cigarette smell which we had never encountered here before. We tolerated that over the weekend and moved first thing on Monday morning. Unfortunately, the 10th floor room we received, while very scenic, was also very hot. Yes, we know it is June in Florida, but the thermostat never got below 75 degrees though it was set for 68 for over 48 hours. We complained several times to the front desk and they did send up their own front desk fan so that we could sleep that evening (without clothes and sheets), we were grateful. They went out of their way to make sure we were as comfortable as possible. We also received a complimentary buffet breakfast and two free bar drinks. We were told the A/C was undergoing repairs so maybe the issue has been resolved. On the flip side, we are always impressed with the friendliness of the staff, especially Gregory in the hotel restaurant at breakfast. The coffee is great. The pool is beautiful. The Hurricane Hut is pricey but conveniently located poolside. The views from the rooms are wonderful. The location is great. Next year we'll be back, if for nothing else than Gregory's warm welcome first thing every morning for breakfast and the waterfall oasis by the pool.

We were traveling to Sarasota for a friend's wedding, so I tried finding a good rate on Priceline (the Hyatt is the only 4 star hotel in Sarasota currently participating in Priceline's name your own price program). I ended up getting the room for $55 for a one night stay the week before the wedding. Given that the published rate was $159, I was extremely happy with the price.

The hotel is located in a nice area of downtown Sarasota, very close to Tamiami Trail. It's a short car ride to the Shopping at St. Armand's Circle and the gulf beaches. If you're staying to go to the beach, the hotel does offer a complimentary shuttle to Lido Key. They do charge for valet parking, however self-parking is free. Since so many downtown hotels and hotels in tourist areas love to charge for parking, this is a plus in my book.

Upon arrival we were cheerfully greeted and offered the choice of a balcony room either facing the marina or the bay. We chose the bay view, which actually was more of a city view with a small view of the water. That didn't really bother me since we weren't there for the view or to spend much time in the room, but if I had a choice in the future I think I'd choose to look over the marina. It was nice to be given the choice (and the balcony), as Priceline customers many times tend to get the less desirable rooms.

The room was very tastefully decorated in a contemporary style. There are marble counter tops in the bathroom, marble shower tile, leather chairs, and a nice flat screen television. Each room also has an iHome charging station/dock as its clock radio. The bed linens were soft and the bed was very comfortable. No complaints at all about anything to do with the room.

There was a little noise coming from one of our neighboring rooms that woke me up once during the night, and it did not seem as if they were really speaking loudly. This leads me to believe that the walls between rooms may be a bit thin. We were in the room right next to the elevator and did not hear any noise from the hallway, so there's a plus there.

On the day we checked out, we headed out to the pool before leaving. The hotel does have a nice pool, complete with a waterfall that provides nice background noise. There's also a poolside bar with televisions if you want to sit in the shade for a while and watch a game. Security is there checking to make sure you're a hotel guest, so make sure to bring your room key. Evidently they have problems with people from the marina trying to get into the pool. The pool was not overly crowded when we arrived (a little after 10am), however when we left at approximately 11:15 it was filling up. I did notice that when we checked in the previous day at about 3pm, nearly every chair at the pool was taken. Just be prepared for a lot of kids at the pool, especially during vacation season. It does seem like a lot of families choose this hotel.

In all, I really don't have anything negative to say about this hotel. We didn't have a chance to try any of their restaurants, so I can't comment on the quality of food or food service. For what I paid for the room, the Hyatt is a fabulous value. I'd definitely go back again.

We stayed here for a few nights last summer and enjoyed the hotel. Clean and refreshing hotel. The rooms were large, clean, nice materials, IPOD docking station with more. Perfect choice for a few nights in Sarasota. We ate a restaurant called Ceviche, short walk away, which was a great experience. Good food and relaxed athmosphere.

We had a wonderful stay at the Hyatt Regency. We were there for 3 nights. Every member of the staff was friendly, the pool area was very nice and the location of the hotel was perfect. We ate at the breakfast buffet every morning. We wish there was a larger selection, but overall the food was fine. The only negative that we found was the bathroom size. It was a little small. Other than that, I would definately recommend this hotel to a friend and would definately stay there again.
