“Our favourite vacation spot”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 July 2009

For the past 5 years my wife and I have a 'road trip' around the Gulf Coast and always stay in IHG properties using priority points that I accumulate from my 70+ business nights per year here in the UK.
We stayed in the HI Lido Beach IN 2008 for 2 nights and my good lady LOVED it.
The view, the staff, breakfast and twilight menu and the surroundings can not be beat.
I e-mailed the hotel prior to this years visit and requested the same room..guess what..no problem sir AND you can check in early as we were expecting you!
We will be back in 2010 and I hope to get room 406 again! PERFECT

The hotel and rooms itself are very typical Holiday Inn fare. We had a 2 queen room and it was fine as far as cleanliness, size and comfortable beds. The real reason I would recommend this hotel is location:
1) The beach is right across the street and is clean, spacious and had tons of seashells to be found. You could check out lounges, chairs and beach towels from the front desk.
2) Proximity to St. Armands Circle - it would be a 5 minute walk or a 1 minute drive. This area has restaurants ranging from fancy to island bars. There are tons of shops ranging from high end jewelry and art galleries to more tourist shops and everything inbetween. Defintiely visit Kilwins for their home-made ice cream and candy and be sure to watch Leroy make fudge in the front window.

Thank you for your compliments and suggestions. Kilwin's is certainly a fun spot for fudge and ice cream! We are working to improve our facility at this time, and recognize that we have much to do. We know that when you return, you will see great new changes.

This was our 8th trip to the Holiday Inn and it will be our last. The location is perfect but the Hotel is not! We arrived with our 2 children ages 3 and 7 months and checked in only to find we were placed in one of the smallest rooms I have ever been in. We have stayed here before so we knew the room sizes and with 2 small children, a pack n play, a stroller and all the other items needed to survive a beach trip we were not pleased. My husband spoke to the women at the front desk who did nothing to help us even though we are priority club members!!!! She was extremely rude and we offered to stay in the room for the first night and even move the next but they still did nothing to help us out. Also, the hotel has nothing in the way of an outside water source to help you at least rinse your feet after a day on the beach so you can just imagine what shape your hotel room is after tracking sand in it. Unfortunately, this is our last visit to this hotel, we are upgrading next year, I guess it is true what they say, "you get what you pay for!!!"

Have to admit i was a bit nervous having read the reviews. We used priority member points and figured if it was bad, then we could go to indigo hotel. Ended up staying for 4 nights.

The location couldn't be better, it's right across the road from the beach. This turned out especially good as we had a gulf view for the powerboat races (didn't really know those were going on). The hotel is a 5 minute walk to St. Armands circle. We walked there every morning for breakfast (Blue Dolphin Cafe every morning) and dinner. The pool was nice. It was July 4th weekend and you had to get there relatively early (by 11:30) to get a sunbed but managed to accommodate everyone. The staff was very nice (but we had no issues or complaints with our room)

The hotel definitely needs a proper facelift. The room was cleanish. They vaccume but didn't really move any of the furniture around to vaccume. The tank on the toilet had a lot of mold. Not totally visable, but the bathroom is the first thing i look at and i saw that. The room always felt damp. I know it is on the beach and i appreciate that, but the AC does't work so good (old window system) so you never really felt cool and dry.

Now having said that..we did not come looking for high end hotel. It was a staycation for us and we just wanted to get away.

Note to management and ic hotel group..your hotel is in prime spot....please update it. People would definitely pay more to stay if it was worth it.

This hotel used to allow local residents to visit the facilities and use the pool. Now they have firmly advertised that non-guests can only sit at the small bar area and not use any of the facilities. As a local that lives close to the hotel we have literally spent THOUSANDS of dollars at the pool bar ordering drinks and food from the restaurant. We have also reccomended the top floor restaurant to locals and vacationers alike for their holiday season buffet dinners (Thanksgiving, Christmas, etc.). And as locals, we don't come by during season because we know it is too crowded anyway. Sorry Holiday Inn. No more. You have lost us for good and I'm sure many more locals too. The off season will be all the more difficult without out like.

We appreciate your feedback. The restaurant and Tiki bar are open to the public, and we greatly appreciate local patronage in these areas. Hotel guests are paying fair price for their rooms and the amenities of our property. Their comfort and enjoyment of our property is our first responsibility.

Check in time was 3pm. Arrived to the hotel at 3:20pm. the structure is dated and was under construction. We accepted the look and the construction, but when we arrived to the room we found dust on the valance and walls that was an inch thick. Called front desk to request another room, however was told nothing available. Housekeeper arrived and blamed the houseman for not cleaning the room properly. We left the room and arrived back at 10pm to find that the room cleanliness issues were not addressed. We found mold on ceiling, kleenex and more dust behind the night stand. Spoke to the front desk again and all we got was "Do you just want to checkout" We left a quickly as we could and got checked in at the Hotel Indigo 2 miles from the beach. NO CUSTOMER SERVICE OR MANAGER ON STAFF TO HELP.

Great things: The Holiday Inn Lido Beach is across the street from direct beach access at Lido Beach. It was great to get up in the morning and be able to go straight to the beach. Fantastic sunsets. Great shells, warm water, white sand, nice breeze and not that crowded. You can walk to St. Armand's circle. The staff is friendly. You can order drinks and food poolside. All of the rooms seem to have balconies. 7th floor restaurant has a breathtaking, panoramic view of Lido Key. Easy parking.

Ok things: the hotel is older, but refurbished. No little conveniences like a hair drier, fridge and microwave in the room. No video games for kids. I don't think I had movie channels, but I didn’t spend much time watching TV! Pool is small, but ok. No hot tub.

Things I didn't like: It's great that kids eat free in the restaurant upstairs, but don't drink the OJ during breakfast unless you are ready to pay $2.50 per 4 oz glass. I guess I was a little irritated by this because I didn't order the juice. It was already at my table when I sat down. The service was very slow on Sunday morning and I felt like I was being pushed out for the Sunday brunch crowd (which starts at 11:30 and is a lot more money). Also- don't count on walking down to a grocery store or fast food place to save a few bucks on going out to eat - you have to drive about 8 miles inland for that! Courtesy internet access in the lobby is very slow.
