If you like camp sites jammed together under questionable tree limbs, a park service road that goes through the middle of the camping area, then this is the park for you. During most of the daytime hours, the service road is buzzing with park pickup trucks, four wheelers and other equipment servicing the camping area and other park areas. By my estimation, they don't follow the speed limit either. Very noisy park during the day.

During our stay, the park employees were less than helpful or courteous. On the second day of our stay they closed two out of four restroom/showers. One for painting and the other, because they didn't want it to get dirty. On the third day, they closed another, with no sign to where one was open (they did eventually open another). Park Hosts were more helpful than Rangers.

As to the trails, they are very nice and well maintained. You can walk them all in one day without much effort.

We will never go back. There are better Florida parks in the system.

Every year, I camp during the Thanksgiving break, and after exploring a couple camping sites across Florida, I am impressed by Highland Hammock's interior structure and superb customer service.

As one Yelper pointed out, the camping sites can be bigger, but it just takes creativity to fit two tents (together with a pop-up canopy and picnic table) in one camping plot. There are a lot of trees in each area, so you will definitely get the shade you need, and if you seek an outdoor adventure, there are very long-winded hiking trails walking distance from the camping area and a field equipped with a volleyball area for your recreation needs at one end while the other end comes with a basketball court. This campsite has the most amenities out of the other ones I have ever seen, which is very impressive.

However, what makes Highland Hammock stand out is the outstanding customer service. There was one park ranger, Josh, who always tried his best to make sure that my group and I were having the best time possible. He answered all questions we had, together with the other park rangers, and made sure we were aware of the campground's policies. If we are going against a camp infraction, all rangers made sure to offer us convenient alternatives. The park industry must be very popular because all park rangers were happy to help us. Their customer service quality should be emulated by all other companies.

The bathrooms here can be cleaner although the amenities were good, and I wish there were more stalls for the men because one restroom area only had one urinal and one toilet which can be detrimental in the morning when you have to wait for the amenities to be vacant.

If you need quick supplies, there is a gas station down the road from the park.

This is by far one of the best campsites I have ever seen.

Highly recommended!

Awesome state park. Great place to take kids for a day of exploring and seeing nature. Lots of trails. The tram ride will take you to restricted areas and you are almost guaranteed to see lots of alligators, turtles, and birds. Deer are also spotted and occasionally hogs. The cat walk and Fern Garden Trail are a must see. My grandkids love the little stone path at the end of the Fern Garden Trail. The path runs through a little creek. Shoes come off and most of the time, kids are muddy and wet. This is a beautiful, well maintained state park.

Nice wooded campground. Enjoyed hiking the many trails and boardwalks in the park. Also great paved areas for bike riding. Saw two wild boars and a deer on the trails. They have a couple of 1,000 year old trees that are pretty neat to look at. The museum at the campground is very informative and interesting. They sometimes have concerts at the campground. When we were there though the concert didn't occur because of rain though.

Enjoy the beauty in God's nature and the life of a place that is undisturbed by industrialization. Bring your camera and find what beauty can be observed in the wildlife.
