While on business in the Tampa area we were looking for a quick and flavorful meal. Reading reviews on trip advisor I ran across City Buffet and we decided to give them a try. Upon arriving at the restaurant, which is located in a strip mall we started to question our decision. There were few cars in the parking area nearest the restaurant and upon entering only three other tables in use and this place can seat well over a hundred people, it's very large. Still, we were there and decided to see if they deserved either high praise or not.
First, there is a buffet line that has good variety of items that are replenished in small quantities to keep each dish fresh. One of the staff was constantly monitoring the food while another was constantly wiping the buffet line to keep it clean.
There is also a pretty good offering of fresh sushi at a dedicated sushi line, there were at least 15 types of rolls to choose from. The spicy tuna roll was spot on.
If the Buffet or sushi aren't enough for you there is a third option at the Mongolian grill. You pick your ingredients and the chef fixes fresh then delivers right to your table.
To compliment the main course lines there is a well stocked fruit and salad station. To finish up your meal there is the normal institutional dessert offerings and a soft serve ice cream station.
I've never been to a five star Chinese/Asian Buffet, but for what one would want in this food category and buffet dining this one comes close. So if you are in the Tampa area, venture out a bit and give them a try, you just never know what "Diamond" in the rough you might find.
