“My trip to the Swedish archipelago”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 August 2014 via mobile

We went last week for a short (week) trip to Stockholm's archipelago and stayed at Djurönaset hotel. We took half-pension and stayed on a double room with our two children. Initially we had the family room but those rooms were too small and far away from the reception and pool house. They have different buildings in the same complex. My advice is to ask for the buildings 1 to 7 or if possible the suite, which should be big enough. It looks like this hotel is in the process of transforming themselves into a more tourist/private guests hotel rather than only for corporate conference events etc.. The buffet is great and offers different type of salads and dishes, however, it is not really children-friendly. You can order french fries with meat balls or pancakes for the kids. The beaches and other water activities around the hotel are very good! The service in general was outstanding, although sometimes the restaurant staff can become stressed when they have big groups present. We will come back soon for sure!

We booked the lovely suite and had a beautiful balcony and view over the sea. The suite is massive and very nicely designed with a thoroughly contemporary feel. Its a shame the maid service missed things like removing dirty glasses and previous residents stuff from the fridge!

Functioning more as a hotel during the Summer, Djuronaset is a great base with plenty to do for older children if they like nature, cycling, swimming and fishing.

The only negative point is the terrible evening grill buffet 'service' if you take half board. Don't expect there to be much left to eat after 7.30, despite being advertised up to 9. It was also difficult to get drinks service at times.

Excellent reception staff and the boat house is a gorgeous venue for lunch or dinner.

Room Tip: The upper suite with a balcony

First of all, at the time of writing, the location map for this hotel is completely wrong in Tripadvisor. It is in a great location out in the archipelago and very easy to reach from Stockholm.
We got to the hotel via bus (433 or 434) from Slussen which is just south of Gamla Stan. It couldn't have been easier - Slussen is also a stop on the T bana (there are lifts in every station if you have a suitcase) and the buses display their stops as they go along. We had a 7 day SL Access card which paid for both the T bana and the bus. It took us just over an hour to get there.
The hotel describes itself as a conference hotel but it is unlike any UK conference hotel I've ever been to. The bedrooms are in small blocks and in each block there are also conference rooms, a huge seating area arranged around a large feature fire place and a really cool kitchen area with tea and coffee. The first day we arrived we were the only people in the block and it was like having a mansion (with really fast free wifi) to ourselves!
The bedroom was nothing outstanding, no sea view for example, but it served its purpose as you did not need to sit in there. Although it was small, it had adequate storage, a big shower and bathroom, air con and an amazingly comfortable bed.
The hotel itself is lovely, very spacious and when we stayed in July the restaurant by the lake was also open. The food there was delicious and in the evening it was a lovely place to go and watch the sunset.
We stayed on a half board deal and the first night, the food was AMAZING! Fabulous steak and salmon in a buffet selection. The second night there were many more people staying and the food, again a buffet, was not nearly as good. The quality was still there but the choice and temperature of the food was not as good as it could have been.
Whilst we were staying we used the pool, sauna, free bikes and complimentary bus which takes you to the nearby port at Stavnas (there are also a range of other facilities including canoes, tennis and a spa). All were great and we used our time to take a trip out to the nearby island of Sandhamn.
Being so close to Stockholm this is a great hotel to relax and experience the archipelago. We wouldn't hesitate to recommend it.

Attended a conference here. Very nice location on the water but a SEK1,000 cab ride from ARN. Room was small but totally functional and clean. Breakfast buffet had a fairly complete offering. Nice and friendly staff.

Djurönäset is the perfect place for an out of city getaway. The nature is very close and the archipelago is all around. You can go for a run or take a swim in the Baltic sea or in the 25 meter swimming pool. The food is well above what you will find at similar conference hotels. The breakfast is superb!
The rooms are quite small but with top of the line Scandinavian design furniture. Conference facilities are good with access to many group rooms.
This is my 7th time and I can’t wait till the next time!

This hotel is 45 minutes driving from Stockholm, too far to be a base if you visit Stockholm, too close for an overnight stay on a round trip. This resort will then be mostly suitable for Swedish residents looking for a week end in a beautiful environment.
The resort is made of several building scattered in the nature of the Stockholm archipelago, surrounded by water and gorgeous landscapes. This hotel is deemed to be 4 stars, however my guess is that only part of the resort matches this ranking: I absolutely trust the report of Angus, a few reviews below, though I had a totally opposite experience: my room had the size, the luxury and the charm of a cheap Youth Hostel’s one. I would then advise that you double check what you book. In fact, while I was wandering around the premises, I came across a building which was proudly bearing a 4 stars sign when all other building had none, hence my hypothesis that only part of the resort deserves 4 stars.
The breakfast was good, with a lot of choice (if you are not Swedish, beware of the meatballs though…) Service was efficient if not very smiling. Indoor pool is large.
