Drinks, live music and a cool server named Drew. Lovely afternoon for people watching. Come here, grab a seat at the bar, facing the road and chill. This is how to vacay.

“Great food, service and location.”
Reviewed 9 June 2014

Traveling through Siesta Key and decided to stop for some lunch. Sat outside and did some people watching. Husband had the Cuban sandwich and I had fish tacos. Both were REALLY good! Heather did an excellent job of taking care of us. There was a gentleman playing guitar which made it even nicer. Would have loved to have stayed but had to move on down the road. Would definitely recommend.

“Fun, Casual Spot!”
Reviewed 8 June 2014

The Hub Baja Grill was recommended by fellow guests at the Siesta Key Beach Club Resort (reviewed as well) as a fun, funky bar/restaurant with good Tex/Mex food, and it did not disappoint. This is a spot to visit when you want to gulp an cold cerveza or sip on a darn good margarita with friends in a super casual atmosphere. Be prepared, it can be crowded and noisy as in the evenings many of the patrons in the outdoor bar will be a couple of drinks ahead of you, even the folks on the sidewalk walking by join in the revelry at times - but its all good fun.

The appetizer menu is a bit heavy so we opted for chips, guacamole and pico de gallo to nibble on which our drinks, the aforementioned cervezas and margaritas, and both were freshly made and very good - the chips were clearly bagged and we only ate a few as vessels for the dips. A few lighter options on the appetizer menu would be welcome as the only choices are chips with salsa or fried items - maybe a seviche, some sort of seafood cocktail, even grilled shrimp on a small salad? Everyone at the table was really hungry after a long day on the beach but didn't want a fried item to spoil their dinner - so 3 appetizer orders turned into one.

For main courses we ordered the chef's special, grouper tacos recommended by our server, the lettuce and Mahi wraps and the Baja burger. Everything was well prepared, arrived hot and no one was disappointed and dove right into their entrees. The fish tacos were, however, the standout of the evening. The grouper was fried, which would not have been my preference when ordering, but that said it was just delicious, cooked perfectly, crisp, light and not at all greasy. On top was an escabeche of jicama, carrot and red onion slaw garnished with light cilantro/lime creama and then topped with crisp shoe string sweet potatoes. Also on the plate were freshly made southwest style baked beans. I am not a fan of re-fried or baked beans, but these were YUMMY and had just a hint of heat, so good I saved one of the tortillas from my tacos to mop every last bit of the sauce off the plate.

As we were sipping our second drinks and waiting for the check, the evening's live entertainment started. This is definitely one of the local hot spots for live music and has a group of regulars who come for the music and bar scene. They clearly knew the musician and repertoire as there was lot of singing-along and interaction with the crowd both in the bar area and those passing by on the street. But again it was all good fun!

“Good Food and Fun Atmosphere”
Reviewed 5 June 2014

We've traveled to Siesta Key for our summer vacation for about 7 years now and have eaten at The Hub several times. This past time was our best experience yet. Our server, Megan, was excellent. She was upbeat and genuinely engaged with us as customers. She thoughtfully answered our questions, talked with our preschool daughter, and kept my tea filled before I could reach for an empty glass. The baby back ribs my wife ordered were delicious. My blackened grouper sandwich was average on the side of good. Good bun and arugula made it above average, but the fish seemed a little undercooked on one side. The musician for the night -- I wish I remembered his name -- put out a great mix of 70s, 80s & current tunes (Toto, Steve Miller, Bob Marley, Zac Brown etc.) with quality guitar and vocals. Price is a little spendy for the casual atmosphere, but this is common for a lot of Sarasota's tourist-geared restaurants. In all, the Hub is worth checking out.
