Hutchinson Island Marriott Beach Resort & Marina

Reviewed 16 July 2014

We stayed here over 4th of July weekend thinking it would be a quick weekend resort getaway with another couple. However, I would not call this place a resort. It is more like a rundown hotel with condos. You can tell the property is older but the rooms and lobby seem to have been redone recently. We had a room that overlooked the main pool but our balcony was full of mildew on the chairs and walls so we could not use it. The pools are very small and basic and reminded me of community center pools instead of a resort. If you're looking for a quieter (cleaner) pool environment we found that the pool at the tennis center was the best spot to go. Just make sure to bring towels with you from the other pools. On one of the days there was a medium sized crab in the pool so we notified three staff members and not one did anything, nor was there a net to get it out ourselves. The hotel itself is nowhere near the beach and you will not have a beach view. If you are going to use the beach there is a daily chair and umbrella fee or you can bring your own. The food was decent and as you would expect for pool food... sandwiches, salads, burgers, etc. We did not eat dinner at the resort because there are a lot of different options around the area. Since the property is large there is a shuttle that will take you between the different locations. I would not stay here again as there are better places to stay along the Florida coast.

Dear Mackenzie L,

Thank you for posting your honest review of our property. We do our absolute best to maintain Marriott's high standards for service and cleanliness and apologize it we did not uphold these standards while you stayed with us. While it is never our intent to disappoint any guest, we are sorry you were not happy with the location. Our website actually states that we are "in close proximity to the beach" rather than "beachfront", as it is never our intention to falsely mislead any guests. We hope you will stay again with us one day.

My very good rating is based almost entirely on how the hotel handled our complaints. Our room was called an ocean view suite that had a view of the horizon, from the balcony overlooking the parking lot. When we voiced our complaints to the manager, he took time to listen to our issues and made sure we will be returning to give it another shot! Great customer service goes a long way!

We stayed at the Sandpiper Suites. It is an old Florida-style hotel that needs a face-lift. I stress you MUST have a beach front, larger suite. Our room was fairly large and the bed and the pillows were ridiculously comfortable. The Kurig-styled coffee machine made pretty good coffee. The flat-screen tv's were nice, too. A/C was super-cold!

The pool is tiny, but the tiki bar helps. It opens late, and closes early. Food is average and the drinks are as pricey as anywhere else. The tiki staff was great and very attentive, though.

The beach was more than enough and the service for lounge chairs and umbrellas was very good and was reasonably priced. They did run out of beach towels, almost every day (not good).

The golf course looks awesome and it is a main reason why we would return.

Lower your expectations for this being a "resort," and you will love this place. It is not a typical Marriott, but the location is great.

One plus is the proximity of very good restaurants, and a supermarket (Publix).

Room Tip: Get a beach-front suite on the top floor; you can't beat the size of the suite and the view is i...

I recently stayed here for a buddy's wedding. It is a large property with two areas of living quarters with a gold course in between. The main hotel sits away from the beach and is a healthy walk or the shuttle that can give you a ride. I got a room that faced the pool on the 4th floor which had a balconey. This is a typical middle of the road Marriott. Nothing fancy but the pool area was nice with a great pool bar. Unfortunately it closes early and the only alternative is the restaurant bar that lacks ambiance. The beach area seemed basic and not easy to access with little amenities. You don't have many options in this area but perhaps check out the Courtyard just north of this property.

Room Tip: inside room with a pool view

Great hotel, nice restaurants, extremely friendly and accommodating staff, nice pools, nice ocean and there is a lot nearby. We would strongly recommend this property. We were actually very luck to find it. We had planned our trip around the Club Med all inclusive nearby, but were so disappointed in there rooms that we left with nowhere to stay. We google searched for the nearest Marriott and were lucky enough to stumble on this hidden gem. I am guessing we will be back. Our experience was totally positive. Also, if you have AAA, ask about discounts, we saved 10% on our rooms and received free breakfast every day of our stay.

We went here as a group of 16 for 4th of July weekend. The resort is a little dated. Stay in the MAIN hotel, the suites are dated! The pools were very small considering the amount of guest the hotel accommodates. On the last night the elevator was out of service so my husband and I had to carry our 4 month old twins in car seats up 3 flights of stairs. Staff very SUPER SUPER NICE and maid service was prompt. They only change sheets and restock towels but no straightening up. We always have a good time whenever we go somewhere so our overall stay was nice. Also very good restaurants nearby. Nice visit but wouldn't return!

The hotel and staff did a great job accommodating our needs. The room was clean and a the main building is great if you want the pool. The beach was a bit of a hike (1/4 mile) but they provide a shuttle and parking is really easy. Overall a great place off the beaten path of the south Florida hustle and bustle. Would stay again in a heart beat!

I spent last Sat. night at the Marriott Marina and Hotel. While the bay is lovely as is the Stuart area the Hotel itself had Pluses-friendly staff clean updated rooms minuses-crowded pool area with lots of kids in diapers. The pool was closed from bacteria for many hours so we took the shuttle ( what a pain in the neck) to the beach which boasts no amenities but charges for chairs and umbrellas and is close to another pool full of babies.
Now I LOVE babies but there needs to be some rules and oversight as when it is HOT out and you are at a resort paying 175.00 a night plus dock fees you really do expect to be able to take a dip in the pool. I will not be back but at least I can check it off my bucket list!

Room Tip: the sandpiper is at the beach with small pool not near the resort- the main hotel is not near the be...
