First we were greated by James at the front desk who was very professional and friendly. He told us the room wasn't available yet, and offered to call me when it was and to have room keys sent down to the tiki bar. After getting settled into the room we went down to the beach and stopped at the tiki bar. Cheryl was very freindly and offered us many dining options including the baja restaurant on property. We had eaten there in the past and wanted something off property and she gave us some great restaurants to try out. Our second day Vanessa took great care of us for lunch down by the pool and recommended that we check out the Oceanographic Center down the street. Plummen was very helpful in driving us back in forth to the golf course or the main hotel. We really enjoyed staying down by the beach. It was much easier with a two year old. We look forward to our next trip to the Marriott Beach Resort.

Room Tip: If you want to stay on the beach, ask for the sandpiper tower.

The location is great, and the beach is really nice. The food service in the main hotel was good. The staff, with the exception of a somewhat officious young lady at the front desk, was, by and large very helpful and friendly.

Here is the list of things that happened, which we didn't like, and could be areas of concern for the hotel:
- for some unexplained reason, the newspaper delivery person pounded on the door of my daughters' room at 7 am until she opened to receive a paper she didn't even order. There is no need for this. This frightened her unnecessarily and was a major nuisance, considering we came to relax and sleep in. Even if she had ordered a paper, it would be better for all (including neighboring rooms), to just leave the paper. When we complained, the front desk lady could offer no explanation, and only apologized, saying the delivery person would be reprimanded. Not sure how that helps us.
- we had to be moved three times before getting an acceptable room. The first one, 3317 at sandpiper smelled like a chemical dump site, and the second one had faulty internet 3418.
- the wifi internet in general was intermittent at best, forcing constant re-logins, and failing to work at all in some areas. Also it was surprising restrictive in terms of MB. Since this is part of a daily facilities fee, it really should be a high quality and dependable service, not a patchwork.
- the food in the tiki bar was OK, but has been better in previous years.
- there is a serious security breach with respect to the room key, which I would be happy to share with the manager offline.

We have been coming to this resort for the last four years for our family reunions. We had eight rooms for about a week. We have several Rewards members (silver and platinum) among us who spend a lot of money here, but this is not recognized. We are wondering whether to move next years's reunion somewhere else.

I really don't know what I was expecting for this vacation experience, but it wasn't what I got. I think at one time, this location was an excellent resort, but although nice, was not the normal Marriott experience. We were in the Sandpiper property on the beach was good, because I would have been highly disappointed if we would have been in the main hotel. Chris at the front desk was excellent and made sure we were near the breach. The room we given at first was a handicap accessible non-ocean view room. It was ok, but as stated above, not the normal Marriott "resort". The next day we saw many checking out so asked for another room. Until we talked to Chris, there was going to be an extra charge. He moved us without an upcharge and we got the ocean view and a separate bedroom/living area. Food at the on property restaurant was just ok, not really great. Drinks were very reasonably priced and good. The beach was not heavily populated and the water nice.

Room Tip: Ask for Sandpiper to be on the beach

Despite giving the initial impression that it is the illegitimate love child of the Ritz and a Comfort Inn, I thoroughly enjoyed my stay because what mattered was done very well. Those little things like high quality bathroom condiments, good coffee, very effective air conditioning, a super comfortable bed with luxurious linens and overstuffed pillows, a full sized balcony, safe, fridge and even microwave, all gift wrapped in a large and very clean room, made the difference for me. The 'Comfort Inn' genes contributed a mediocre bathroom (but the shower was good) and some hallways which smelt a little damp.

The staff were proudly of Ritz descent with every single one (and there seemed to be quite a few) of them smartly dressed, friendly, helpful and cheerful. Particularly the guys at the front door and the restaurant staff... but even those painting walls would make the effort to wish you a cheery good morning. Equally impressive was the continuous supply of iced water (a choice of lemon or strawberry no less) in reception. It all made me rather pleased to be there.

Facilities are good if a little ... how do I put this .... dispersed. I stayed in a room overlooking the pool and within striking distance, for an ageing Englishman struggling with the Florida sun, was a neat little Gym (they even loaned you headphones... how cool is that), a reasonably priced restaurant, a bar at the pool and, via a rustic wooden pier, rentals for an eclectic collection of watercraft. The beach, long enough to never be crowded, was the other side of a seemingly expansive golf course along private roads which also led to beachfront condominiums... definitely a more tempting drive than stroll. These distant shores also provided bike rentals and tennis courts although either exertion seemed a somewhat pointless consideration at 90 degrees Fahrenheit.

The remoteness of the beach inspired many families to day long vigils beside the pool so it was inevitably busy, but it is a good size, has a hot tub and plenty of sun loungers and shades... can either the Ritz or a Comfort Inn boast that?

By all means, the location is amazing. Great beach, okay pool, tiki bar drinks, not so good. Now the room...The smell in the room was far from nice. Especially when I am paying 200+ for a 1 bedroom ocean view room. The bed wasn't too comfortable, and even though it was a king, my feet were hanging off the bed...I am 6 ft...The view was beautiful, but trying to simply open the sliding door to the balcony was beyond difficult. Tried to fix it myself but that didn't work. A few times we thought we were going to be stuck outside. Tried to call to get it fixed, but no one came. Unfortunately, I would not stay here again. It seemed like for the money, staying somewhere else would have been better and just simply driving to the beach. The cleanliness and comfort of the room was beyond poor for a 200+ dollar a night room.

Room Tip: Again, great views, great location, but smelly uncomfortable rooms with sub par standards...

Dear BobbyBFromNYC,

Thank you for sharing your review with other TripAdvisor members and for pointing out the lovely location and views. We also appreciate you sharing your thoughts on areas we could improve on. Clearly, we did not live up to your expectations regarding Marriott's high standards of hospitality and room accommodations and for that we apologize. We do try to ensure that our rooms are clean smelling and that any possible service request is responded to immediately. We fell down in this regard during your stay and will be disguising this review with our housekeeping and service departments to ensure that this does not happen again. Please accept our sincerest apologies for the issues that you experienced and we are going to work hard to ensure that they do not occur again.
