“A reason to stay in Stuart”
Reviewed 20 June 2014

I've stayed at this hotel many times for work and often bring my family on these trips just because of this location. Hotel staff is friendly, pool and bar can be loud (especially on weekends), but place has a special magic to it being right on the water. Room is very spacious. Balconies are great. Fun to walk around the water and lots of places to walk for dinner. Breakfast a little harder to come by.

Room Tip: Get a water side room and bring ear plugs just in case.

I, along with a group of approximately 40 people, just returned from a 3-night stay at Pirate's Cove. Our stay was organized under a group rate ($109/night) and our organizer was told that the $20/night pet fee was waived (we were in Stuart for a rabbit expo). Upon check-in, we were told that the pet fee was not waived and we would be charged. Our organizer called and was told that they would waive 1 night pet fee. At check-out our entire group, including those that didn't bring pets, were charged for every night they were there and there was also a rollaway bed fee and no one had a rollaway in the room. The rollaway fee was removed from the bill, but they would not budge on the pet fee. The pet fee was removed from the bills for people that didn't have pets. Our rabbits were kept in pens and we left the rooms SPOTLESS. I even brought my Dyson and vacuumed the entire room and we also wiped down and sanitized every surface. We even took pictures from every angle and advised our entire group to do so also. The front desk staff had no interest in even attempting to resolve our issue.

I do have to say that rooms were clean and comfortable, the food and service in the tiki bar and pool area was outstanding (special kudos go out to CJ and Kristen), and the pool inviting. We had no issue at all with the premises or service staff.

The issue in the first paragraph really soured our entire experience. Between room fees, 2 dinners and one lunch, our group spent thousands of dollars at Pirate's Cove. This is an annual event (this was the 4th year) and we are really incredulous that this establishment would drive our group to another resort over a $20 pet fee. If it weren't for this, we would have loved to come back next year.

Dear Guest,
I am sorry to hear that you were upset by the pet fee. I will readily admit there was some confusion between what the front desk clerks were told and what is common practice. The pet fee was assesed on all the rooms with a pet on the morning after the arrival once the first room was cleaned. The pet fee is to cover the cleaning expense of the room as we have to detail every inch of the room if a pet were to stay. Usually only the 2nd floor poolside is reserved for pets. However for your group an exception was made. If there is a next time, which we hope there will be, the hotel will try to be more prepared and better guidelines with the group will be discussed so that both sides have a better understanding as to what to expect and what is acceptable. Thank you very much for your opinion as it does matter to us, both good and bad, so that we can continue to improve in all areas of hospitality.
Sincerely,
Susan Miller

HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE!!!!! On our second night we fell asleep with the TV on at 1:30 am we were woken up to three men in our room. When asked what they were doing they took off down the hall. First reaction was to call the front as we thought we were being robbed. The office advised us it was there security guard and restaurant manager and they were just turning off the TV. This has been a horrible experience, as a woman I feel so violated. Just because we fell asleep with the TV on gives Pirates Cove no right to 100% violate us.
When we spoke with management (Susan) we were told it was our fault, not even a sorry.
There is no food available until 12:00 and when we went to dinner I ordered claims when it came to the table they were covered in a jello. Even the staff said they wouldn't eat it. There was also no sorry's or resolve.
The swimming pool was also filled with bird poop and when we contacted staff in regards to our complaints we were just looked at there was never any sort of resolve.

I apoligize for the scare you had, but for the safety of our guests we do have security on site. And when there is a possibility that a guest is in trouble, in your case unresponsive to our calls and knocking upon the door, it is our protocol to have security and management check in upon the guest. Luckily for other guests we do practice our due diligence as twice before we have assisted guests who have fallen and were unable to reach the telephone to call for help. So, I again apoligize for the inconvenience, but want to let you know that it was your safety that we had at the forefront when entering your hotel room.
Sincerely,
Susan Miller

I've been coming to this place for years, because it's close by. Every time I hope it gets better and it never does. It has potential, but the problem here is clearly poor management. They always have the same rude bartenders who act like they're doing you a favor by serving you - they have the personality of drill sergeants. Who hires these people? And a better question - why keep them around after you realize that customer service is clearly not their forte? They serve the same average, overpriced food (mahi filet smaller than the size of the bun and paper thin) and their drinks are SO small, they serve them in dixie cups! Last time I was here I had a glass of wine that they served me in a plastic cup the size of a shot glass. Expensive to boot. Clearly all they want are the tourists money and don't care about the locals. They are failing on every level. The only thing good about this place is the view, and there are other places in this area where you can get the same view but actually get quality food & service. This is a sinking ship.

Great location, and nice "old Florida" feel to the place, but we won't rush to stay here again- view alone does not justify the high price. Very noisy AC unit, toilet ran on every 20 minutes or so (we called twice to notify the front desk of the issue, but no action taken during the 3 days we were there) no maid service during the time we were there, and the staff can't seem to remember to start a new pot of coffee when the old one is nearly empty. All of these issues (except for the waste of water) would have just been minor annoyances if we hadn't paid so much for the room- in addition, our friends paid for a premium dock side room for over $200/night and when they needed a bottle opener, the front desk told them the only option was to buy one for $2 from the gift shop- Seriously! This could be a great place- beautiful location and nice grounds, but needs more attention to detail and guest services, especially at the current prices.

Room Tip: Rooms near the bar are noisy, but the band generally quits by midnight.

We live nearby, and have used Pirates Cove when we have too many overnight guests. During high season the prices don't seem to justify the rooms, but I have used sites such as booking.com to get food rates off season and have found this to be one of the best area choices.

Room Tip: You are either close to the bar, or the marina, so pick your poison.

This was our first hotel stay but our 4th or 5th visit to the restaurant and bar. We stayed 4 nights, the food was terrible, the A/C unit way too loud to sleep and the "breakfast" was in the reception office on a counter...get it yourself cellophane-wrapped muffins and bagels. And to top it all, we had to pay extra for a fridge!!! The girl bartenders were so nasty and unwelcoming. Didn't the boss give Smile Lessons before they got hired?? Needless to say, their tips reflected our dissatisfaction! The other bartender, Kim, was by far more pleasant. We just loved her and were sorry to hear she had left. We won't go back here. Maybe we should have asked where Kim went...we could start going there for lunch!!! It was a nice place at one time...Not any more.
