Sugarloaf Lodge is what the Keys is all about. The rooms are retro, clean and comfortable. The views are amazing. You can park your boat right outside your room and the tiki bar is always a great place for conversation. The marina next door is great with a friendly staff. The only negative is the fact that there is no restaurant on property. The closest restaurant is about 3 miles away. We have been to the Sugarloaf Lodge several times over the past decade and it never disappoints.

I don't remember spending so little to get so much.A truly retro 60's lodge, super clean, very quiet
every thing worked, and free coffee.we will return! All the light bulbs worked, hot water really was
hot.View was lovely.

Room Tip: Perfect to get into key west and be away from the noise.

I love the look of this hotel. Its like keys version of a Mad Men set. It has very tropical decor with all the original retro hardware of a 70s Howard Johnsons. So cute, I loved it. It does have the necessary modern amenities as updated bathroom, flat screen, small fridge. We had a room on the bottom floor that had a sliding glass door that led to a patio over looking the water. Priceless!!!!
The staff was very accomidating and friendly. It pains me to have to include the negative aspects of our stay but I feel its important to be honest. The carpet and bathroom floors are in serious need of a deep cleaning. After our first evening of walking barefoot in the room our feet were black. We then wore our flip flops the rest of the time. I would not let this deter me from a future stay however it is why I didn't give it a higher rating.

I've been here several times now and The Sugarloaf is basic and dependable. The woman at the front desk is super friendly and accommodating. The room is vintage 1962 Florida Keys. And there are several really good restaurants close by, the Square Grouper being the best and Kaya's coming in a solid second place.

Pros:
-awesome upstairs Water view room with a balcony, vaulted ceiling, fridge and flat screen.
- Room was impressively clean (even lights and top edge of pictures).
Cons:
- Ugliest bedspreads I have EVER seen! EVER!!!
- housekeeping started opening other doors and vacuuming before 8 am...come on now, let people on vacation sleep til at least 8!!
- the furniture in our room could use updating but I peeked in a King room-very nice setup.
- weird bugs in hallway that look like roaches but aren't. They called them some kind of beetle and said they are only here a couple weeks out of the year.

Will definitely stay here again but hopefully they will have new bedspreads by then...

Great waterfront room with great views out the patio door. Go outside on your private patio for even better views, including amazing sunset. Tiki bar had an old Florida atmosphere, friendly bartender and very reasonable prices versus the gouging you take in Key West. Room was clean, furniture was art deco 50ish style. TV had every channel you can think of, but who watches TV in the Keys? This is definitely a keeper when I visit the lower Keys.
