This is yet another scenic spot in Tallahassee -- the place is loaded with them. The mounds and surrounding grounds are what's left of a sizable town from the Southeastern Ceremonial Complex period. Great photo opportunities exist everywhere, especially in the late afternoon or early morning.

The mounds are there in their natural state. There are neither facilities nor amenities. This is good on the one hand, but we tourists are so used to bigger being better until it's a bit of a let down.

We loved visiting the Lake Jackson Mounds Archaeological State Park. It is truly magical. Adding to that perception was the fact that, on our way up to the first mound, my husband said, "Look down." I thought, "What kind of bug is on me that he wouldn't just come up and shoo it away immediately??"

I looked down and there, at my waist, was a dragonfly, looking up at me with those huge eyes. Fantastic! I got to look down one more time before he flew off. A priceless memory that I'll treasure forever.

A lovely, quiet place to picnic, and full of a mighty historic spirit. Treat yourself and your family to a respite from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, and take a trip back into the ancient past. Wander through the woods. And be sure and say a prayer for the amazing people who used to inhabit this sacred space.

I think more history on the mounds should be provided but it's something to see and the trail is nice too. Also the wide open grassy area to play.

This park is nice if you want to play a game of Frisbee or your kids love a big place to run free. The mounds are pretty neat, especially knowing the way they were made. Other than that, it is pretty much just an open field.
