Owner description: The Bradfordville Blues Club experience is like no other. It combines a truly unique location and atmosphere with the best the Blues has to offer. Hidden in a rural part of Tallahassee, the experience begins when you travel down the winding dirt roads and up the hill that lead to the Club. Surrounded by fields of tall stalks of corn and old majestic oak trees dripping with moss, the one room cinder block “juke joint” has hosted an impressive list of nationally renowned Blues acts. The more than 50 original portraits autographed by the “Kings and Queens” of the Blues, which serve as table tops and wall hangings, attest to the quality of our entertainment. The Club is open on Friday and Saturday nights and offers a good selection of ice-cold bottled beers and wine. Just follow the tiki torches down the dirt roads till you reach the juke joint under the stars. We’ll keep the bonfire burning, the beer ice-cold and the music hot!

The Bradfordville Blues Club is unlike any other venue in the Tallahassee area. The building looks gritty and maybe a little worn, but that's part of its charm. The place oozes atmosphere and character. The club is hidden away back in the woods. On your first trip there, if you think that you're lost in the middle of nowhere, then you're probably headed in the right direction. No matter who plays at the BBC, you can rest assured that the music will be rockin', soulful, and lively. Most of the patrons are on the older side, but age isn't a factor on the dance floor. People get up and cut a rug, dancing with abandon however they feel like moving.

It's the best way to spend a Friday or Saturday night in Tallahassee, yet so few people know that it's even there.

In a word, it's outstanding. I visited a few blues clubs in the Delta country and BBC seems like it was magically transported from rural Mississippi. The set up matches the club perfectly -- wander down a dirt road, take the left fork and there it is, in all its cinder block glory. Don't expect finding one of those sterile, blues-themed franchise joints. This is a gritty, real blues club. The setting fits and it exudes sound from some of the greatest touring artists around. You sure can't snack on fried fish around a bonfire at one of those franchise joints. Move it up on your bucket list. This is a must see and understandably why it's included on the National Blues Trail.

The BBC isn't quite like any other music venue that I've been to. The crowd skews a little older than most places in Tallahassee (which is a relief for most people over 25). It's tucked away off a dirt road (two, actually), and you can only find it by following the torches and signs. The small size of the venue makes that place always lively and packed, and if you like the blues it is definitely worth the trip. It's hard to believe people like Clarence Carter and Percy Sledge have played at the BBC, and yet none of my friends who live in Tallahassee had even heard of this place a couple years ago!

Tips: They only serve beer and house wine. There is usually some sort of smoked fish for sale. 2 of the 3 times I've been to the BBC have been sold-out shows, so I would recommend calling ahead to reserve your seats (especially if you have a large group).

A Jook Joint is a place known to hold the truths of Blues at heart, where dancing and cavorting can happen, where you see the musicians sweat as they make great music, a place where you sense history yet celebrate the future. The Bradfordville Blues Club (BBC) is one of only few such places in America. Nestled down a dusty road and under century oaks, the music touches the soul. It's one of only a couple Jook Joints on the Mississippi Blues Trail. Celebrated Blues musicians known worldwide keep coming back to perform, not because it's the biggest venue, but because it's quaint and intimate and they can feed off the audience's energy. Table tops and the walls are decorated with honored musicians who've played the BBC. On cool nights there's always a bonfire burning outside, and often the scent of fresh fired catfish wafts through the air from the tent nearby. If you dig Blues, or any or her children (Jazz, Soul, R&B, Rock, etc.), this place is a must visit. It's a treasure!
