“History It Should Be”
Reviewed 13 August 2014

Those of us who love history and seek it out are sometimes more enthusiastic about it than those curating or who's care it's in. We are sometimes disappointed by that. That is not the case at the Old Capitol. You can see it in every detail, and in every face there. Great architecture, great history. It's alive.

“Very interesting!”
Reviewed 22 July 2014

My son and I toured the capitol and really enjoyed it, but since we arrived late, we had a very limited amount of time to completely see everything. I always love learning about the past and would love to return when I have more time to take in everything they have to offer.

“Worth a second visit”
Reviewed 30 June 2014

Very interesting and well set out. Disappointed not to be able to see the Chambers on the second floor because of renovations which spoiled the visit somewhat. The small guide is good and helpful for getting around.

“Great way to experience Florida history”
Reviewed 23 June 2014 via mobile

As a native Floridian and a Social Studies teacher, I was really excited about seeing the historic Capitol. I was not disappointed. The staff is awesome and will take the time to talk to you about a little of the building's history (such as the different renovations and additions the building went through during its history).

They offered my son (almost 9) a scavenger hunt they have designed for kids. There are actually two versions: a picture hunt for younger kids and one with questions for the older kids. My son decided to do both and it definitely made him more excited about seeing the exhibits. (He's more of a science guy so he doesn't always share my love of history!) There was a small prize (a sticker) when they complete the scavenger hunt and turn in the pencil.

No cost to visit the Historic Capitol so you can't beat the price. However, there is a donation box! Bring a few dollars to donate to help out with the costs of keeping the museum running. They also have a small gift shop area to pick up a souvenir.

Some of the exhibits include the Governor's private office space including several pieces of original furniture. There is a gallery inside with portraits of all of Florid's Governors. You can also see the chambers where the House, Senate, and Florida Supreme Court used to meet (also with original furniture). There are also several rooms with exhibits that tell of events in Florida's history. Some of the exhibits include short films. It was very well thought out and informative.

We had a great time. Be sure to visit the working Capitol right next door. The Governor and Congress have moved over there. (The Supreme Court has their own building across the street now. We didn't visit them.)

If you're in Tallahassee, make sure to visit the Historic Capitol!
