Owner description: Do you see yourself looking over the vast Serengeti plains, searching the horizon for a glimpse of a pride of Lions, or a Leopard lounging in the trees? Do you imagine yourself in India, riding an elephant through the high grass with your eyes peeled for the elusive Tiger? Have you ever thought how great it would be to hike through the rainforest, listening to the tropical birds, ever on the lookout for a Leopard or an Ocelot high in the canopy? Have you ever been to the zoo and wanted to be closer to the exotic cats; so close you could almost touch them? You don't have to spend tens of thousands of dollars to make these dreams come true. The world's largest accredited big cat rescue facility is right here in Tampa, Florida at Big Cat Rescue.

“BIG CAT RESCUE”

My 2nd time there. Very impressed with the love and care given to the cats. This place runs like a well oiled machine considering they have over 100 rescued cats. Great education to the public given during the tour. Sad facts but things people need to know so that they do not support the wrong things which end up hurting the cats. I have donated to this charity in the past and will continue to do so. WONDERFUL CAUSE.

“A Real Find! Big Cats Rescued, Humanitarianly!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 June 2014

See 100 or more formerly misused, mistreated & harmed Big Cats, now in their own outdoor cages, living with Nature; and treated with respect. You'll hear each of their stories on audio and by volunteer tour guides -- some of those stories will bring you to tears. You have to see and hear for yourself how these magnificent creatures are now living out the remainder of their lives protected by great harm previously done to them by circuses, criminals, and sometimes even well-meaning owners who just could not handle the responsibility. It is the largest Big Cat Rescue of its kind; and I remain in awe of all that is done on a volunteer basis to give these creatures a place and opportunity to live without further harm and rehabilitate, when able. Please visit; you'll forget the experience -- nor the magnificence of these noble creatures.

“Great experience”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 June 2014

We finally got to visit the sanctuary, the 90 minute visit is very informative. You start by watching a video about the work BCR does followed by a guided visit. They have some big cats, but the majority are smaller species, as a visitor you'll learn the circumstances that led to the rescue and the new lives they live in the sanctuary. This is no zoo you can visit at your leisure, the cats are their priority and they minimize the stress visitors can cause.
Our visit was cut short doe to the rain, but we received tickets to come back, but were given the option to ask for our money back.

“Its not a zoo”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 June 2014

This is a place where they actually rescue big cats, its not a zoo. So the facilities aren't exactly polished, but they take good care of this creatures. They live in much better condition than they did before, some of the cats lived in the basement all their lives, some in a very small cages.... it's really sad, some stories you hear. They let you know what they fight for and that is the well being of big cats and they ask you to sign a petition. I don't think anything is wrong with that, I will always sign everything to do with protecting the animals and I guess people there expect their visitors to do the same, otherwise, why would you visit this place if you don't care for the animals?
