“Atmosphere, elegance, good food & service=FINE DINING”
Reviewed 3 March 2014 via mobile

Had dinner in this restaurant while staying in The Floridan Palace Hotel. The food was delicious with a Greek flair, large portions, and excellent, attentive, friendly service. But the very best things about The a Crystal Room is the beautiful restoration and ambiance of the dining area. With the Big Band era music softly playing in the background and the authenticity of the space it is a step back to a bygone era. Combine all these attributes and this is a wonderful dining experience in downtown Tampa!

“Restored elegance”
Reviewed 24 February 2014 via mobile

A real find in downtown Tampa. Located on the second floor of the restored Floridan Palace Hotel, the Crystal Dining Room is elegant without being stuffy. Don't let the upscale look put you off. Casual dress is fine and the service is excellent. Prices are reasonable and the food is good. Don't miss the Chocolate Floridan Delight, a dense flour less chocolate tort that melts in your mouth.

“Excellent Restaurant Located in a Restored Hotel”
Reviewed 22 February 2014

It is rare to find excellent food, great service, and moderate prices in an upscale hotel; but this is exactly what the Floridan Hotel offers. I've been there twice--once with a large tour group and once with friends--and both times I've been more than satisfied! The Crystal Dining Room is located off the lobby of this restored 1926 hotel. Both the hotel and the dining area decor reflect that period. Yet, while the environment is upscale, the service is warm and friendly. We were welcomed despite being dressed in casual attire. Our group ordered seafood crepes, stuffed flounder, and grouper. While we favored the American cuisine, the restaurant offers a wide assortment of Greek entrees as well. The hotel offers valet parking and, because the restaurant is on the second floor, an elevator from street level. I highly recommend this restaurant for lunch or dinner.

“Floridan food just a step above fast food”
Reviewed 22 November 2013

8 of us met at the Crystal Dining Room last night before attending "Book of Mormon" at the Straz. This review is limited to the quality of the dining 'experience'. A better rating would be poor to average but that category does not exist, so I had to go with average. The service was good, the staff was attentive and courteous. The food is the issue. Many of our entree dishes were either warm or just plain cold. This is completely unacceptable since we were the only diners seated at 5:00pm. Let's get a little more detailed. My wife ordered the Flounder with stuffed crab. OMG it was horrible, yes horrible. The crab meat, if that what is really was, was tasteless and the texture was almost like baby food. Being a transplant from the Chesapeake Bay area, I could not recognize what I was eating. The flounder, again, if that what it was was also horrible. It did not taste fresh and was paper thin. That too had no flavor which makes me think it may have been frozen. Her broccoli was COLD, not warm, but COLD. Others had the same COLD broccoli issue. The baked potato was overcooked to the point it was much too soft in texture. In retrospect, my wife realized she should have return the entire platter. I ordered the Seafood Linguine Genovese, $28.00, Jumbo Shrimp, Sea Scallops, Clams, Mussels and Linguine in a zesty sauce. The sauce was not tangy and almost tasteless. The pasta tasted like it was made in advance and then just dropped into hot water. They told me they were out of mussels and said they would provide double the clams. How can a restaurant run out of mussels when they first open for the evening? The clams were tender and the scallops were cooked just right. The shrimp were not Jumbo, not by a long shot! They were tender but not as tasty as they could have been with a much better sauce. Another diner ordered the grouper and told the waitress it was rubbery. It did not look like any cut of grouper I have seen in most other restaurants. Another diner ordered the Golden Calamari, the coating was soft instead of crispy and some of the calamari was chewy. Another diner ordered the pork chops and was quite satisfied. Another diner order the New York strip and said it was cooked just the way they like it but it was not as tender and he thought is should be compared to other steaks he has had at other upscale restaurants. So, what does this all boil down to? The setting can be considered elegant, the service quite good, but the food quality and presentation leaves a lot to be desired. We all agreed we've had better food at some other chain restaurants. With all of the fantastic restaurants in Tampa, I don't know why anyone would choose this restaurant except for its closeness to the Straz or if you are in town for business staying at the hotel.
